Milwaukee Bucks Thread 2009–2010 (part 2)

stalton
I was at the game last night, and it was a pretty good crowd. Its amazing that the Bucks played bad for 3 quarters and still beat the 3rd best team in the east. I really love this team, Luke Ridnour and John Salmons both had huge games, and Carlos Delfino stepped it up in the 2nd half.

We are now 9 games over .500, does it really matter where we were a few months ago? The Bucks are a very good team, I think Milwaukee is starting to notice, and I think the crowd sizes will show that soon. When was the last time both the Bucks, Brewers and Packers were good?

Here's to the Brewers continuing Wisconsin's post-season run for sports. The Packers made the playoffs, barring a monumental collapse the Bucks will, The Badgers men and women made the tourney, the Marquette men made, and the UW-GB women made it. Now if only a team can have a little more success but it really has been a good start to the sports year for Wisconsin.

If the Bucks finish 8 - 5 they'll go 30 - 11 for the second half of the season. Amazing.

Simple fact is that the most of the seats in the upper deck are horrible. There have been games I wanted to go to where there were only seats in the rafters or in the upper corners available. So I could A) Get good seats from a ticket broker for an outrageous price or B) Pay for awful seats where I can't really even enjoy the game. For the most part, I have chosen C) Watch on TV. I have been to two games, would go more often if the seating for basketball in the BC wasn't so horrific.

It seems to me that there are enough ticket deals out there, even in the premier games, to make it worth attending at the BC instead of watching on TV. I've sat in a lot of different spots in the upper level for Bucks games and I see the game just fine and the atmosphere lately has been really good.

Also, I believe John Anderson from ESPN sportscenter started the Fear the Deer thing about a month ago.

The way John Hammond has built this team makes me wonder if he was the one who built the Pistons championship team.

I have only been able to make 2 games this year. If i lived closer(about 50 miles outside of town), i would go to alot more. But you are right, i sat in the top row at midcourt, and the view was better than i thought it would be. Closer seats are spectacular, and it's a very nice arena for it's age.

Attendance is always delayed a year from success. The Brewers have followed this pattern almost every year since Miller Park opened. If the team improved over their previous record, attendance went up the following year. If the team regressed, attendance went down. Walk-up crowds have almost no bearing on the big picture.

The last time the Brewers and Bucks both had winning records was 1987.

In 1982, the Brewers, Packers, and Bucks all finished in 1st place (the NFL season was strike-shortened).

From the Bill Simmons article:

Bucks GM John Hammond has made three great moves in the past year: the Salmons trade, gambling on Brandon Jennings at No. 10 in the NBA draft and signing Delfino for nothing this past summer. (Not only does Delfino fill up the stat sheet, play both swing spots and give you solid D, but he also has a giant tattoo of a lizard on his left shoulder that looks cool in HD. There's a lot to like.) Meanwhile, Joe Dumars ran the Pistons into the ground in the 18 months after Hammond bolted Detroit for Milwaukee. Were the two events related? Hmmmmmm.

Yeah, I think the Salmons trade, drafting Jennings, and the Delfino signing make up for the dud that was Joe Alexander instead of Brook Lopez.

Ugh, the Bucks claimed Darnell Jackson off waivers. I guess they wanted the worst possible player. Hard to imagine a player that would make me excited for Shavlik Randolph and Alexander Johnson.

I though Jackson was a beast at Kansas when they won the national tournament, maybe he just needed a chance. I'm going to trust the Bucks front office on this, he has put up ridiculous stats in his 2 d league games this season and he's 6'9" 250. Hopefully he works out, if not oh well. I don't think he's the worst possible player, if he was he wouldn't have been on the roster of the team w/ the best record in the NBA for the last 2 seasons.

If Larry Harris was still GM, i would worry. But right now, hammond is doing just about everything right. I'll trust this move for now.

Looks like Bogut is likely not playing tonight with a "slight back strain", which they claim is nothing serious, but we'll see. Ersan also doubtful with flu-like symptoms. That's not good. Claims it's been bothering him for a few days, which might explain why he was playing so poorly lately.

One of the bigger games of the year (win gets us a virtual 4 game lead on Miami with 11 to play) and we're without 2 of our front court players, we might even have to suffer through a Dan Gadzuric sighting tonight (do you realize he hasn't played since 2/17!!?!).

We won in Denver pretty much without Bogut, so there's hope, but this is a tough one.

Ugh this makes me sick. Hopefully this doesn't turn into a season ending injury like seemingly every injury on the Bucks(especially late in the season) turns out to be. Def gotta draft big in the 1st this year.

Delfino goes down hard and accidentally gets his head/neck stepped on and has to be carried off on a stretcher. He has movement in all his extremities, though. Hopefully he is alright, and can come back as strong as ever.

Ugly loss, no Bogut, no Ersan and very little Delfino.
