Milwaukee Bucks Thread 2009–2010 (part 2)

stalton

3 years is still too long, but it's a hell of a lot better than 5. 5 is what superstars get. Unbelievable.

Edit: Not possible to have a team option after the third year. has to be before the last year of the deal. Could (better) have non guaranteed money though.

Someone on the JSonline blogs has posted that ESPN is saying that the numbers break down this way:

Year 1) 5 Million

Year 2) 5 Million

Year 3) 6 Million

Year 4) 7 Million (team option)

Year 5) 8 Million (team option)

If those numbers are right, then this is a VERY solid deal for the Bucks. If we could sign Salmons, we are in excellent, excellent shape going into next season. This deal also makes us one of the better rebounding teams in the league.

One has to think that the Bucks still have a few trade options up their sleeve. With Redd and his expiring contract.

Latest from ESPN has it at 5 years 32 Million.

This is no where near as bad as you make it out to be, especially if the last year or two are non guaranteed. 6 million per season is not a cap room buster. It's the cost of an average player in the league today, and Gooden should provide us average production throughout that contract. This is no Gadzuric, this is a player who averages close to a double double every night.

I wouldnt assume that Ersan and LRMAM are necessarily in the long term plans for a big extension. If Luc were a free agent today, he wouldnt bring in more than 3-4 million a season. Ersan was inconsistent enough he couldnt stay in our line up last season, I doubt he'd be lined up for big money either, regardless his age

crewcrazy[/b]]David Aldridge of NBA.com says 5 years, $39 million for Salmons.

I really, really don't like giving Salmons 5 years. That's a big commitment for a guy who had a hot 30 games and will be in his age 31 season next year.

5 years is a lot, but supposedly there is a buyout for that 5th year. Also there are supposedly $5 mil in incentives. I'm hoping the $5 mil incentives are included in that $39 mil. We'll have to wait and see on the final details. Either way, the Bucks have incredible depth.

Here's a nice article that sums up my thoughts on the Gooden deal as well. Still want to hear the details. I heard a rumor that the five years go $5 mil, $5 mil, $6 mil and two option years at $8 mil. If that is the case then it was a great signing, but we'll have to wait and see I guess. Hopefully something definitive is announced soon.

Looking like all five are guaranteed per Woelfel:

Sources say 3 way trade between Bucks, Cavs, Nets. Redd to Cavs, Harris to Bucks, Ilyasova, Jamison to Nets.

From a NJ sportswriter's Twitter. Makes sense, as the Bucks have several 4's right now.

That was debunked. That sportswriter does not have a Twitter account. It was an imposter.

Already past his peak and he got 5 yrs. I have no doubt he'll get his, but it's gonna come as a detriment to the team. Basketball isn't like baseball where stats can tell who's good and who's not.

He's just a knucklehead. Not a bad guy off the court, but no bball iq and probably the worst help defender in the league. That's gonna especially hurt when he's taking minutes from LRMAM and Ers, who happen to be very good overall defenders.

When I think Drew Gooden, I think Tim Thomas of this decade. A guy who has the physical tools to be dominant, but is just kind of soft. It's nice to add depth, but it's a pretty hefty price.
