Milwaukee Bucks Thread 2009–2010 (part 2)

stalton

Fear The Deer is appealing to a guy that played on one of the worst teams in NBA history, and a guy that gets a shot as the 47th pick in the draft with one of his old school teammates...let's not blow FTD out of proportion. It's great to see guys excited to come to the Bucks, but honestly these two would have been just as excited to go anywhere other than New Jersey in CDR's case, and anywhere in Gallon's case.

Chris Bosh is not coming to Milwaukee.

FTD seems to be pretty appealing to the young hoopsters nowadays...

Jennings and winning will make Milwaukee more appealing to some players in the NBA, but the top elite players are a different animal. They have nearly unlimited options as to where they can play because pretty much every team in the league would try to make room for them if that player showed interest.

Let's say the Heat makes a run at Bosh and James. They would need to clear salary which more than likely would mean trading Michael Beasley. Do you think he would be a good fit for the Bucks? What would it take to land him? Do you think the other teams in the NBA would refuse to help the Heat shed salary?

Miami has been trying to give Beasley away to anyone and everyone. He's a talented guy, but I'm guessing teams don't want to put up with a headcase like him.

I'm with you though, I'd try to get him. If Skiles doesn't crack the case no one will. The reward outweighs the risk imo.

The Bucks could have had the 18th pick OKC eventually got from Miami if they would have taken on Beasley, but supposedly Hammond wouldn't do it. Quite the fall in two short seasons.

Well ,there's some guys no coach can "fix." The NBA and individual teams spend a lot of time and money investigating their own, so I'm sure the Bucks know pleny about Beasley. Could be a case where they're convinced he would damage the team chemistry. Point being, they know more about him than we do, so I'll trust Hammond if he takes a pass.

Teams can start negotiating w/ free agents tomorrow. It should be a very interesting off-season for the NBA w/ Lebron, Wade, Joe Johnson, Nowitzki, Bosh, Boozer, Amare and Paul Pierce among the top free agents.

John Salmons opted out of his contract today, and the Bucks have to decide whether they will pick up Delfino's 3.5 million option today. I'm hoping the Bucks bring back Salmons and Ridnour, I also loved what Kurt Thomas brought to the team w/ his leadership and the way he stepped up in the playoffs.

Who does everybody think the Bucks should go after?

It seems like a no-brainer to pick up Delfino. I also agree with your opinion that Salmons, Ridnour, and Thomas should be brought back if possible, though I wouldn't give Salmons crazy money, and I have a feeling that Ridnour may leave to get more minutes elsewhere. If Salmons is gone, obviously you are going to need a shooting guard, and I'd look into bringing Ray Allen back for a somewhat limited role (25 minutes or so a game).

If Delfino, Salmons, Ridnour, Thomas all come back they would have to cut at least 3 players. They have CDR coming in, along with 3 rookies. There's just not enough seats on the bench for 15 guys.

You get a 15 man roster. Here are 15, am I missing anybody?

PG-Jennings, Ridnour

SG-Salmons, CDR, Redd

SF-Delfino, Maggette, Hobson,

PF- Ersan, LRMAM, Sanders, Gallon, D. Jackson

C-Bogut, Thomas

I just can't see them keeping all 3 rookies on the big club. Have a feeling at least 1 goes to NBDL. I think Hobson will need seasoning, as I just don't see him getting NBA minutes off the bat. Gallon may go depending on conditioning. I could see them bringing in a few Stackhouse/Thomas type vets.

I really don't see Salmons coming back. Some team (the Clippers or Knicks, I'd wager) will have him as plan D or E and he'll get upwards of 9M a year thrown at him. The Bucks just can't afford to pay a 30/31 year old that kind of money, killing what cap space they'd have available next year.

Richard Jefferson is opting out of his contract with the Spurs. I cannot believe that he is leaving the final $15 million of his deal on the table. What do you think his next contract will be worth? 3/$20? 3/$25? 4/$30 at most, right? Does anyone else think that this is a questionable move on his part? Someone must be telling him that he can cash in on one more big contract after the big FAs have been signed and the losers still have money to spend.

Jefferson was awful here in SA last season. Just a guy. Nothing special at all. Him opting out of his deal is crazy on his part if he's looking for money. I wouldn't give him more than $5 million per year. That's a max of what he's worth in my estimation.

Oh I did forget to mention, a parade has been scheduled here for the great decision by RJ. It sure helps to have some extra room under the cap for the Spurs. Not that they'd get LBJ, but I'd love to see them shoot for Paul Pierce. A lineup of Parker, Pierce, Manu, Blair and Duncan is pretty tough!

Jefferson is one of several guys who are opting out of deals likely to pay them more than they will get elsewhere. With those guys, especially ones who have already gotten their big contract like Jefferson, it's about a ring. They are opting out hoping to sign with a team that LeBron and/or D-Wade and/or Bosh and/or Boozer/etc. is going to. I think there is more to the possibility that two of the aforementioned players end up on the same team, and a guy like RJ who has already made $60+M in his career would love to go to that team even at a lower salary because of the chance of getting a ring.

If the Bucks are able to resign Salmons is there any way that Hammond turns around and trades Maggette to one of the teams that loses out on the big free agents? If Hammond can turn Gadzuric and Bell and their bad contracts into Maggette and Maggette into a future draft pick they should just give him exec of the year for next year already. Maybe the Knicks, Nets, Timberwolves?

Hammond said he planned to keep Maggette. Really though, do you think teams are dumb enough to say "Hey, the Warriors had to give up Maggette and a 2nd rounder and all they got was a useless Gadzuric on an expiring deal and the two year contract of a bad player in Bell", let's trade for him and give up a pick! Not even David Kahn is that stupid.

Maggette makes a ton of sense for the Bucks and solves two huge problems (three if he's the 6th man).

1. He's super efficient on offense. .618 TS% last year, career .581 TS%. That's awesome.

2. He gets to the free throw line a ton. Just over 7 times in his career while averaging just over 29 minutes per game. That's outstanding and the Bucks were second to last in the NBA in free throw attempts per game last year at 20.4

3. If he's coming off the bench, which I hope he is. How many times did the Bucks take out Bogut and Jennings before the Salmons trade and then after the Salmons trade where they just could not score? You'd have Ridnour/Bell/LRMAM/Ersan/Thomas out there and really, there's no one in that group that can create their own shot. Maggette can.

Jennings/Salmons/Delfino/whoever wins the PF battle/Bogut with hopefully Ridnour/CDR/Maggette/loser of the PF battle and hopefully Thomas off the bench would be awesome.

I'm really nervous about the contract the Bucks will offer Salmons. Is there any chance they can get him on a 1-2 year deal?

That's an angle that I didn't consider. If that's the case, good for him. The only thing that really bothers me about Jefferson is his "RJ" tattoo. It looks as if it were designed by a child.

If the Bucks put together a squad that would allow Corey to really be a 6th-man...they could be really, really good.

Just a wild thought...but a 2-year deal with Ray Allen might be fun. I hope they could get a younger player who can defend better...but if Ray is still sitting around in a week or two...
