Milwaukee Bucks Thread 2009–2010 (part 2)

Jeez Gobias, did Sanders pee on your Cheerios? The Bucks need big men - the only players they have under contract who are over 6'8" are Bogut and Ilyasova, and Ilyasova plays more like a SF than a PF. Kurt Thomas' contract is up and he's 37 years old. Who are they going to have as the backups at C and PF?

Last year the Bucks ranked 12th in the league in 3-point FG %, but they ranked 17th in rebounding differential. In the playoffs they ranked dead last (16th) among playoff teams in rebounding differential. When Bogut was out they got killed on the boards. Jennings is a year older and should improve his FG%, Delfino is a decent 3-point shooter, and I think it is easier to find SGs in free agency than C/PF. They picked up Stackhouse in the middle of the season.

I think Hobson is going to be another Bucks 2nd round sleeper pick. He has Delfino-esque stats in that he puts up crooked numbers across the board - 15.9 ppg, 9.3 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 1.3 steals. Interesting that all of the Bucks picks are rebounders - Gallon had the fewest at 7.9/game (as a freshman). ESPN doesn't have anything on a trade with Jordan - hopefully that is the case. Given that they don't have a backup C on the roster I hope they keep him. And is Gallon a "solid" 300 lbs or a... "soft" 300 lbs.? Overall I like it; I wanted a high risk/reward foreign player in the 2nd round, but seeing as how they only had seven players under contract (likely 8 with Redd) they needed all four picks to fill the roster.

So now the roster looks like:

C - Bogut, Sanders, Jordan

PF - Ilyasova, LRMAM, Sanders, Gallon

SF - Maggette, Ilyasova, CD-R, Hobson

SG - Delfino, Maggette, Redd, CD-R

PG - Jennings

So they still have a spot to fill, particularly at PG as Jennings is the only one under contract. Hopefully they have the cap room to resign Ridnour who has the ability slide over to SG if needed.

Of the four picks, the one I like most is Darington Hobson. Sanders, Jordan and Gallon are nice picks too, adds much needed length and size to our roster.

I've a feeling Hobson could be our next Moute in the sense that he could contribute right away out of the second round of the draft. I think he can make a decent point guard & shooting guard for the Bucks.

I like all three guys. It seems that all of them are smart basketball players that play hard. I like Hobson as a point forward, and I think both Sanders and Gallon compliment each other well and could probably play some PF/C together eventually. Overall I think this was a good draft. Now, I just hope they bring back Ridnour, Salmons and Thomas and I think we'll be a very solid team that could compete w/ any team in the East.

If Jordan is not traded at least 1 of the 4 is probably destined for the D League. Even if two of them need to go that route it is not a bad thing. Nothing wrong with giving the young guys a chance to play a lot and see how they develop. Tiny seems like the obvious candidate to get his feet wet and conditioning in order.

I actually liked all the picks. Comparing Haislip to Sanders is a little ridiculous in my opinion. Sanders actually has a skill, where Haislip was solely an athlete. I think Jordan (if he sticks) and Hobson go the NBDL. Very happy with the Tiny pick. I think BJ will light a fire, and we will get a steal.

Did Haislip grow after college? I could have sworn that when they drafted him he was 6'8" and played SF. Basketball-Reference has him at 6'10". I don't recall Haislip playing PF - I thought he was a SF.

Never thought of the Paul Pressey comparison for Hobson. Interesting...

Haha. Nah man, I'm just a big fan of Babbit and think he's gonna definitely be a rookie that will contribute right away and still have plenty of upside. We need players who can shoot it, and Babbit went 50/40/90 % last year.

Sanders is one of those guys who just started playing the game in high school, and I just don't think he contributes much right away. Once again, I hope to god I'm wrong. But we're a team that could win 50 with the right moves this offseason. We needed a rotation player from that pick.

Ivey is a very good defensive player, and when acquired, Skiles went out of his way to say that he may be a good fit for the future if Ridnour did not return. I like him because he can defend both the 1 or the 2, so while he has little to add on offense, he is a guy you can bring in at the end of the half to ensure no one picks up a cheap foul, and to be honest, no deep bench guys have offensive skills, or they would not be deep bench guys.

I don't see him as a 2nd string PG, but I could see him as a bottom 5 guy.

For those on Twitter, here is CDR's feed: http://twitter.com/cdouglasroberts

He seems genuinely ecstatic to be a Buck, which is definitely a refreshing thing to see. If guys like Jennings and CDR can get other players excited about the idea of coming to Milwaukee, all hope may not be lost for the franchise. Amazing how different things can look in just a year.

The Bucks should trade Bogut for Luol Deng.

Gallon is on the FTD bandwagon:

Amazing to think that MKE is starting to be a place where players actually want to play.

I had a very strange dream last night, I dreamt that the Bucks traded Redd for Al Jefferson and Ramon Sessions. Please note it's just a dream.

But if the Wolves are looking to clear some payroll or a spot for Rubio, I wouldn't mind taking Sessions off their hands. Maybe trade a 2011 second round pick for Sessions. With Ridnour a FA and likely to cost more, I think Sessions could make a good replacement backup PG for the Bucks.

I think that's a legit possibility. If we were to trade Redd, that's probably the type of deal we would get, and I think MIN would love to unload Jefferson's contract.
