Milwaukee Bucks Thread 2009–2010 (part 2)

stalton
I think Salmons has a players option for next year doesn't he? Therefore, he's basically a free agent. Ridnour is also a FA, so there's a decision to be made there. Finally, that $25MM for Redd/Gadz won't be available next year, it will be available the following year. Both are under contract for the 2010/2011 season.

My bad on including Ridnour, and not knowing about the option for Salmons. But yes, I'm aware that Redd and Gadzuric are on the payroll next year. Hence my comments about the final year of those bad contracts becoming virtually gold in the NBA landscape. Maybe a trade won't be made with these two until next year mid season, either way, my point was their contracts now have vaule as weird as that is. I still think Salmons comes back.

Yea Salmons can opt out and he probably will. I'd like him back but it has to be at the right price. I don't think I want to pay the guy 10 mil+ a season or anything for a guy who will be 31 next season.

Ray Allen will be a FA this offseason, I think he could be a nice guy to go after if Salmons wants big money. He probably won't command anymore than MLE and would probably be interested in coming back to Milwaukee to finish his career. Maybe we could resign Luke Ridnour too then with the money we save.

I'm not too familiar with the Bucks financial situation this summer tho.

If I understand the NBA rules correctly, the salary cap is enforced for the season after the trade deadline, so the Bucks might have a little wiggle room if they can count on moving Gadz and Redd by the trade deadline. The one problem that I can see is that there aren't as many big name free agents next year for other teams to need expiring contracts.

I just flipped through pretty much this entire thread, and it was pretty funny to see all the different reactions of people going all the way back to when we didn't keep CV and Sessions, the drafting of Jennings, and when we traded for Delfino. And the "Can Brandon Jennings pitch?" line was already used in this thread, too.

Joe Johnson's all around game and unselfish play will appeal to a lot of teams. He's going to have a healthy market for his services. He's too good not to. If you miss out on a marquee FA he's almost as good but not as big a name.

Not really. He's closer in ability to prime Mike Redd than he is to Wade or LeBron. Not worth the max, though he'll easily get it. He's good though, don't get me wrong. He's just not great.

I agree with JoeHova, I wouldn't give Joe Johnson the max. I don't know if I'd call Joe Johnson unselfish either. He plays a lot Michael Redd with the iso plays. That is Atlanta's set offense tho it seems. Get to ball to Johnson, Crawford, or Horford and stand around and watch them work. He's an amazing shot maker tho.

Charles Barkley was really on to something when he talked about this team having issues. Mike Woodson is a terrible coach and they have a ton of talented "imma get mine" low IQ players. That might get it done in the regular season but it aint happening in the playoffs.

I'm just wondering ifhe is a guy that might get lost a bit in the summer-shuffle. We have to have a guy that can fill it some, but must be able to defend the bigger guards if that player is going to be next to Brandon.

Bucks will not be involved with any major free agents this summer. Johnson is going to get a max contract when teams panic that they can't sign LeBron or Wade. Bucks are set up nicely for 2011 FA market. Won't be as strong, but won't cost as much either. They are close to winning a series with Jennings, Salmons, and the better part of a D-League team, Skiles doesn't need superstars. Will be curious to see their direction in the draft, would like to see Patterson from UK slip to us. Also wouldn't mind trading the pick for a somewhat proven scorer. I can't see Salmons coming back, the guy has taken two teams on his back to the playoffs in two years. Unless he really likes the team and area, someone should throw a lot of money at him.

I think the Bucks are set up nicely with their Redd and Gadzuric contracts to make a trade for a player that has value and signed long tem more than set up for the 2011 free agent market.

Say a team decides they want to make a run at Carmelo Anthony, Tony Parker, or Jamal Crawford. Or say a team wants to go after a combination of free agents such as Caron Butler, Samuel Dalembert etc. They want to free up cash and want those big, bad expiring contracts, and trade someone to the Bucks to get them.

I don't have specific players in mind or anything, but I think that's the avenue all these national sports outlets (Sports Illustrated for one) are praising the Bucks for putting themselves in position to do stuff like this next year.

From Bill Simmons: "I am expecting one of the great basketball crowds of the past 15 years

in Milwaukee on Friday night. Just know that if it wasn't my daughter's

birthday this weekend, I would have walked from Los Angeles to be at

that game. OK, not really. But I would have done just about anything.

Maybe for Round 2. Hold your heads high, people of Milwaukee. You

proved this season that small market basketball can work with the right

group of fans."

If you're lucky enough to be at the Bradley Center tonight, prove him right. This should be fun.

If the foul difference is 20ish fouls against us this Game 6, I'm calling shananegins
I doubt the NBA is really invested in seeing the Hawks move on at this point.
I'll believe it when I see it. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from 2002 and 2006.

i agree, i don't think there will be shenanigans. if there were going to be shenanigans, johnson would have not fouled out on a charge with 2 minutes left in game 5.

If the NBA wanted Atlanta to win this series, they would have made sure they won Game 5. Davis and Bavetta officiated that game and we still won, so I doubt we see any shenanigans tonight.
