Milwaukee Bucks Thread 2009–2010 (part 2)

stalton
The NBA should rescind the Coach of the Year award from Scott Brooks and hand it over to Skiles.
I don't understand how Skiles loses the award to a coach who has Kevin Durant on his team along with a team that was expected to be a playoff contender this year. I think Skiles/Jennings '10 will go down as the most underrated coach/point guard tandem in NBA history.

Not to take anything at all away from the Bucks here, they've played hard and absolutely deserve the three wins, but I STRONGLY suspect the Hawks figured the Bogut-less Bucks were going to be a cakewalk, and have played accordingly.

I'm hoping it's too late for the Hawks to 'turn it back up a notch' now that they've got their backs up to it.

I agree with them underestimating the bucks, but you would think that would have changed after the Game 3 beatdown they got.

Dick Bavetta and Marc Davis are two of three officials tonight. That's a total buzz kill. There's no way they win this game.

So, yeah. I'm an NBA expert. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif

RoCo not being snarky; but did you watch the game last night? The Hawks played hard and with intensity, the Bucks matched that and then some. It was funny to hear, feel, and see the shock from everyone involved in this game when it ended. It was as if no one believed that had just happened. I mean, Ridnour was gaurding Marvin Williams for a good number of possessions, this just doesn't happen. Tri, the refs tried to get us with some ticky-tacks on our bigs and we just rode it out.

Awesome win.

The Bucks are the anti-Brewers. Mentally tough, play as a team, someone always comes through when it counts. Skiles is coach of the year, and Jennings is rookie of the year. I'm the type of Bucks/NBA fan that can never watch an entire game, but I have fallen in love with this team. I have not missed a minute of the playoff games, and last night was amazing.

While the future is encouraging, they need to take full advantage of this moment in time while they're really clicking. I'm sure Skiles won't let it happen, but I do fear that the deer will relax a bit coming back home. Bring it hard, and the Hawks will fold.

I moved out of Milwaukee shortly after the 2001 run and I haven't been to the BC since that epic Phili series. Fans in Milwaukee or going to the game; Please get loud! Jennings has mentioned multiple times that he feeds heavily off the crowd.

It's gonna be tough to resign Salmons. His skill set is perfectly suited to be a #2 along with one of the big name FA this year. If NY can't get two elite guys, you better bet that they go after Salmons before guys like Rudy Gay or Joe Johnson. Hopefully he just loves it here and gives us a discount, but it isn't really fair to ask him to.

Skiles has been brilliant. Mike Woodson better be taking notes. Let's just hope Skiles learned from his mistakes in Chi though. He burnt his guys out there after 2 years. This seems like a group more willing to work their butts off though.

Cole Aldrich, or someone similar, could be a decent option for this tram in the draft. We need Bogut insurance, that is for sure. I trust Hammond though, so whatever he thinks. Has he made a bad move since drafting Alexander over Lopez?

Salmons will be tough, but I'm trying not to think about next year. If someone offers an ungodly contract, no way the Bucks should match it. But if it's reasonable, the Bucks could be creative in keeping it lower next year, then higher after they dump the Redd/Gaz contracts. (Although I don't know how flexible you can be with the NBA cap.)

But as you said, I have confidence in Hammond /Skiles to either sign Salmons or replace him with a similar player for less $. Great thing is, they can honestly go for "best player available" in the draft. A shooter of the bench, backup for Bogut, even another PG for Ridnour insurance.

After watching Joe Johnson during the regular season and playoffs this year, I would definitely consider him an elite option. Without him, I think the Hawks might not even make the playoffs. I agree that Salmons is going to be tough to resign, I hope that this special ending to the season weighs heavily on his mind when he decides to come back to Milwaukee or not.

I haven't watched Joe Johnson enough to know what category he fits into; but I would hate to see us sign someone that would disrupt the simple (but suprisingly rare) equation that we have going of: if have the opportunity get to the hoop, do it, you are open, shoot, if not pass. All it takes is one guy (Redd) to disrupt that equation. That's why Salmons is such a good fit. He's the rare ego-less scorer.

Bruce Bowen on Sportscenter: I believe the Hawks will force a Game 7 and they will use this as a learning experience for their next series.

Ugh...How can you have so much faith in a team that coughed up a 14-0 run in the final four minutes and has been total garbage on the road?

perhaps he thinks the bucks will lose it rather than the hawks winning it.

i was at every playoff game in 2001, and i know how loud it will be at the BC and how amped up the players will be. we have never seen how the bucks will do with the upper hand in the series. they have been chasing to this point. maybe the bucks players will come out so jacked up that they miss a bunch of shots and forget to do the little things that got them a 3-2 lead.

if atlanta makes a run early and the crowd gets taken out of the game a little bit, i can easily see the hawks forcing a game 7.

but man, i hope not!

Yes.

Joe Johnson is a very unselfish player. He'll go long stretches without even taking a shot. He's the type of guy that would be a perfect fit for this Bucks team.

Yes.

But do we want another lefty?

I'd

still be picking ATL too, using my head instead of my heart. Without

Bogut, the talent is not that close...ATL has been favored in all 5

games, and likely Friday too.

If Atlanta is really favored on the road tomorrow, I'm flying to Vegas right now.

The Hawks can only get by on athleticism and talented individual players so long. The teams is terrible coached, their offense all iso plays and their switching defense is easily taken advantage of. They're way overcompensating for Bibby and Crawford on defense, they're bad on defense but they're creating mismatches for themselves by switching Josh Smith or Al Horford away from the basket. They lack composure and toughness to top it off. They don't play team basketball. This series just goes to show how important a good coach is.

BTW, Ticketmaster has a really cool feature that shows which individual seats are available for games. I was on at around 5 PM yesterday and there were tons of seats (well over 4,000) available. When I went back and checked at around midnight, there were 40 left.

John Salmons is a Buck next year for $5.8M, unless they don't want him...which I can confidently say is not the case. So I don't know where all this resigning Salmons talk came from. When they got him, it was brought up that with the contracts of Redd, Gadzuric, and Salmons, the Bucks would have over $30M of "contracts" to trade in the off season to bring a player or two of value back in return. After the last three months, I think it's safe to say the Bucks will have ~$25M of "contracts" to trade in the off season to bring in a player of value to team up with Bogut, Jennings....and Salmons, among other role guys (Luc, Delfino, Ilyasova, Ridnour). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

That's the unique part of the NBA structure. We piss and moan about Redd's contract for a few years (with good reason) and all of a sudden their bad contracts become valuable resources once they hit the final year (same goes for Gadzuric).

Fear the Deer...next year.
