Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2009 (May – Dec.)

This seems way too random and pointless to start a new thread:

I'm planning on making crock pot lasagna. My grocery store was out of sweet Italian sausage. I do have some brats at home, however. Would the brats work well in lasagna (after the casings are removed obviously)? They might even be mild italian sausage, in which case they'd probably work just fine.

So, in other words...is sausage sausage?

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

I'm guessing that there are multiple places that he needs to sign and that each time he signs he uses a different pen and hands a pen to someone there as a "memento".

Not only that, you may see several pens used within the same signature. Presidents do this, too.

That music is from "2001 Space Odessy"...correct? I could never really get into that movie, but I really like that song. It actually reminds more more of the movie "Being There" than it does "2001 Space Odessy"

1992casey's post reminds me to ask: how did "Bang The Drum All Day" become the Packers' TD-celebrating song? Just because it sounds kind of celebratory? It's not like it's a song about football.

Also, is Wikipedia's statement true that WKLH plays "Bang the Drum All Day" every Friday at 5:00?

Finally, a mildly horrifying factoid that is better suited for lambeauleap: there's a Wikipedia entry for 4th and 26.

It's the same song from 2001, but this version of the song is in Being There. Being There is an incredible movie.

I thought of Bang the Drum All Day when I posted about Who Let the Dogs Out. Methinks it's time for something new.

Do the Packers use their old fight song anymore?

I have never heard that before, at least that I can remember. Wikipedia claims a version of the song is played after player introductions at Lambeau Field.

Here are the apparent lyrics, courtesy of Google:

Hail, hail the gang's all here to yell for you,

And keep you going in your winning ways,

Hail, hail the gang's all here to tell you too,

That win or lose, we'll always sing your praises Packers;

Go, you Packers, go and get 'em,

Go, you fighting fools upset 'em,

Smash their line with all your might,

A touchdown, Packers, Fight, Fight, Fight, Fight!

On, you Green and Gold, to glory,

Win this game the same old story,

Fight, you Packers,

Fight, and bring the bacon home to Old Green Bay.

See, now, I'm sure this makes me completely old-school, but that's the song that makes me think "Packers." I'm not saying I'd go back to following the NFL if they played it instead of Bang the Drum, but I wouldn't mind if they did.

They still played the fight song in the early 1990s, when I lived in Green Bay. I knew someone who was an alternate in the Packer Band.

It used to be the theme song on WTMJ and the Packer radio network. And the Packer band would play a pepped up version for Packer kickoff returns. They were really good at winding it down with a moment's notice.

I never knew that lyrics existed until last night. This version shows a slight variation of the words that Invader3K posted. (I didn't opt for it in the post above because the sound isn't quite as good.)

These lyrics say "On, you Blue and Gold, to glory!" rather than "On, you Green and Gold, to glory!" According to Wikipedia, the song was first used in 1931, when the Packers wore blue uniforms. The Packers first wore a green uniform in 1935, but wore mostly blue until Vince Lombardi introduced the current forest green.

Speaking of songs with little-known lyrics, how about this one?

Sorry about the consecutive posts. Yuku mangled my content when I tried to combine the two videos into one message.

It can take two minutes or more to get hot water to my dad's kitchen sink. I wonder how much of his MMSD bill could be saved by installing a point-of-use water heater for that spot.

I was watching the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll hall of fame show last night. I'm completely amazed at the longevity of some of the performers.

I thought Smokey Robinson (69), Sam Moore (74), & Buddy Guy (73) all still sounded great. The way Buddy Guy can still play the guitar is unbelievable.

And whether you're a Stones fan or not, I don't know how anyone can watch Mick Jagger at age 66 move around the stage like he does and not be amazed.

There is an article in today's local paper about the proposed expansion of the state's largest dairy operations (Currently 7,000 cows). They are getting the necessary approvals to increase the herd to 13,000 cows and in doing so, the farm would produce more waste than all but two Wisconsin cities (Milwaukee and Madison).

It is amazing that a 13,000 cow dairy just outside of Rosendale ( A town of about 1,100) can produce that much poop.

The other day, I picked up an inexpensive armoire at Menards. One of the parts was busted, so I'm having a new one sent.

The customer service person helping me mentioned that she liked shopping at the new Menards near her home in Ohio. I didn't tell her that when my friend's dad checked out of an outdoor Menards lumber yard, he showed the security guy his yellow slip instead of the pink one and had a gun pulled on him.
