Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2009 (May – Dec.)

I was walking out of a store today and this little kid asks his mom for a quarter to get a gumball out of the machine. His mom says back to him, "I don't know, they probably have been in there for a long time" to which the kid replies as he shrugs is shoulders, "so, I don't care". When you're that age there are no cares in the world. It made me giggle, and I bought my own gumball whether it was in there for a long time or not because I just didn't care.

It seemed like there were an awful lot of kids (like K-12 school-aged) at Woodman's West in Madison today, with parent/guardian types.

Why wouldn't they be in school? Is this par for Woodman's, burniebrewer? (Not to put you on the spot, but you're there more often than I am.)

Half-day today for Madison schools.

Every Monday is a short day as it is for Madison elementary schools. My daughter got out at the usual 1:45 Monday release time today. I just checked the MMSD website and it appears high school and middle school had early release for "staff development" and elementary had their usual Monday.

Hawing, yes, a few of us commented on the amount of kids in there today. It was definitely a bit busy overall for a Monday today--it was expected though knowing that state workers had the day off.

Just so state employees don't come off as slackers in burnie's post, it was a furlough day today for many of us.

Holiday (Columbus Day) for government workers.

Hawing, I don't think my post will start the slacker perception...we all know how many days off state/gov. workers get.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

OK, at about 11:00 I could clearly hear the U2 music played at Camp Randall when the Badgers run out of the tunnel. I was inside our house, eight blocks away, with the windows closed. The sound was not wind-aided.

We've lived this close to the stadium since 1993 and it was never this easy to hear stadium doings before. A few weeks ago we even heard the students' charming, forum-unfriendly chant - though we had to be outside to hear that.

I'd have to move if I heard U2. (Seriously? U2 is the tunnel music?) I'm OK with the swearing though.

I'm most offended by the Badgers inability to beat quality opponents.

If I heard U2 in my yard, it would be a deal breaker. I can deal with drunks and loud-mouths, but U2? No chance.

I need a smiley face here. I really hate U2, but I'm playing. I'd only move if they played Dave Matthews or the Dead.

At least it's not bad recordings of glorified worldly bands...give the kids effort for trying, as bad as it may seem...

I just saw the worst collection of previews ever: Legion, 2012, Twilight, Saw 6, The Wolfman, Did You Hear About The Morgans?, and It's Complicated - not a single redeeming one in the bunch. And what's with the weird obsession with vampires all of a sudden?

the bluetooth users are the ones that bug me. they start talking (in an elevator or wherever) and I think they're talking to me. Then they turn their head and I see the dongle on their head.

I think I'm just going to start assuming that these people are talking to me and say something like, "Pardon me, I didn't catch what you said."

Generally, when I want to use my cell in a public place, I find a place to hide that hopefully offers a degree of privacy. But every once in a while, I end up taking a call in the wrong place or at the wrong time and totally regret how rude it was to do that.

Speaking of phones, it's awfully hard to find a corded landline phone that's actually good. Are lighted keys in the handset and a caller ID display that's readable really too tall an order?

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I have heard they are cheap to make which makes sense. They don't have big stars. They don't have expensive special effects. They don't have expsnsive sets. Being cheap to make means they don't have to draw to many people. I have never been to one and probably never will.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

I'm still trying to understand why this is rude. When you are in an elevator or walking down the street with a friend, do you feel it's rude to have a conversation with that person if other people are in the vicinity? How is this different? I can understand the annoyance with the bluetooth thing, but why is it rude to talk on a phone in public?

I'm generally annoyed with people who have to talk loud enough for everyone within 50 feet to hear, whether it's on the phone or in public.

I went to see the first four movies and each time they were packed. They are pretty decent and are always something to do around Halloween time.

I got home tonight to find one of our cats crawling under one of our radiators, clearly trying to reach something. I got the flashlight and the yardstick and found no fewer than seven cat toys, a few of which I'd forgotten they had. Most are 'noisy' toys like crinkle balls and ping pong balls.

The other cat has been playing with them, one by one, ever since. I'm hoping that means he sleeps tonight (though if we want to sleep tonight, we'll have to re-hide the noisy toys).
