Anyone else bothered when Bohannon jacked up a contested 3 with 24 seconds left down by 3. A quick two there and then another free throw miss (which happened) and you are only down 2 with 15 seconds left going for the tie or the win.

All in all a horrible performance by a good team. Maybe a wake up call for the tourney?

I have a hard time calling it a horrible performance when they didn't appear to be lazy IMO. It seemed to be just a bad (ok, horrid) shooting day. They showed great energy at the end, so hopefully they have something to build on for the tourney. I just hope this doesn't hurt their seed too much.

That definately looked good to the tourney folks......to play that bad and come storming back. Just fell a bit short today. Definately a good wake up call for tourney time.

Badger shooters struggled all day with those Conseco Fieldhouse rims. Long shots fell short, layups rolled off.......we just plain struggled. To shoot only in the 20% range for most (the end probably helped) of the game and have a chance at the end looks pretty good. Illinois played very well.

Enough excuses.....they had better be ready by next Thursday!

I would have to think the frantic finish and having a chance to tie will help. If they got blown out I could see it hurting them more. I think they are firmly a 4/5 seed now after being a 3 seed this morning in Lunardi's bracket. It is not like they lost to Iowa or Indiana here, they lost to a Illinois team playing for their tournament lives. The committee has said they now longer value any part of the season more than another so one game should not make a huge difference.

It was painful to watch but the comeback made it more worthwhile for sure. This team has heart, they just could not make a layup or free-throws today that did them in. Left way too many points on the line and at the rim.

I was only able to follow on Yahoo's box score today, so can you guys answer the following:

1. Was there strong defensive pressure by the Illini or were the Badgers just ice-cold today? and

2. Why/how did an ice-cold Bohannon get the potential game-tying shot with 16 to go instead of a red-hot Hughes?

I do have to think/hope that the "fake rally" (as our friends at NSBB dub Cubs' "too little, too late" moments) and the fact that a lot of top teams seem to be struggling in their conference tourneys will help keep the Badgers at a 4 seed. Would hate to see them get a 5....or worse.

Badgers shot terribly. Illinois gave some pressure, but Bucky couldnt throw it in the ocean for most of the game. Leuer was the only consistant player today.

Trevon had just fouled out right before Bohannon had to take that shot.......and the lousy part was, an official called a jump ball, but was over-ruled by another one from 50' away who thought he had a foul. Very lousy!

I agree 100% that many top teams are struggling in their confrence tourneys.......so I dont think we drop past a 5. Then again, it is UW and we have a history of this!

I don't understand why UW intentionally fouled down by 3 with 40 seconds left. Plenty of time to get a stop and go for the tie...I'd think the odds of making a three have to be better than that of playing the foul game.

I have a bad case of the angries. Have I ever mentioned how much Keaton Nankivil frustrates me?!?! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

EDIT: I know Bohannon & Hughes were far bigger disappointments today, but it was the perfect game for him to step up. Illinois only has one true big, and he was guarding Leuer when I noticed. Keaton was just invisi-vil today.

Trevon Hughes is by far the most polarizing player on a game to game basis for me. It's impossible to hate him after he's come up big late in games so many times, ie Va. Tech and FSU last year, at Northwestern this year. Then he has games like today where he doesn't realize he should attempt to run the offense occasionally, instead of driving and throwing up shots at the bottom of the backboard three different times. I don't really buy the injury excuse because he looked fine on his drives, his shot selection was just poor.

The good news is it's just about impossible for everyone to play as poorly as they did for 35 minutes again all at the same time.

Hey, how 'bout that guard play by UW today!

I wouldn't at all mind if Marquette lost today too. They have a short bench and that would be a lot of minutes for them. They're in, and could use another day of rest.

Sunday will be interesting. All of Joe Lunardi's #3 seeds lost yesterday, the lone exception being Georgetown, who seems to want to move up. There have been a ton of upsets in all of these tournaments. Ohio St, Duke, Kansas, the big boys are not exactly running away with their games either.

I dont think we can be too mad at the Badger guards. There is no way they can play that bad again. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Same with Marquette. I think both teams are still in good shape and will be a tough out in the tourney.

Ohio st. escapes in OT but Purdue seems to have caught our shooting cold and only scored 11 points in the first half and are down 26 to Minnesota. Moore shooting a horrid 1-14. Does Minn need to win tomorrow to get in?

Boy, that's a tough one. The bubble seems particularly weak this year, but the committee claims they aren't weighing the last 10 games as much as they have in the past. Mich. St. and Purdue are solid wins, but both of those teams are trending downward big time right now.

I think Minnesota is in. The selection committee has noted (think I read it in this thread) that the Big Ten champ. game ends too late to use. That would make it 6 Big Ten teams in the dance... looks like this conference is every bit as tough as most have been saying all season long here.

Ohio st. escapes in OT

And if the refs didn't no-call the travel by Turner & the elbow-hook he got away with (would've been his 5th, instead Tisdale fouled out on the play) down the stretch in that game, OSU wouldn't have escaped. Great performance by Illinois.

It ends too late for seeding purposes but not for who is in/out. Look at the ACC tourney - if the Big 10 had a team like Indiana make it to the championship game then if that team lost they would definitely be out. It could easily be, "If Minnesota wins they are the 12 seed in this bracket, if Minnesota loses then it will be Team X as the 12 seed in that bracket."

Evan Turner had 10 turnovers. Eek.
