College Basketball 2009-2010 (part 2)

Marquette is sure looking like a quality win as well.
You are right. I was just looking at currently ranked teams. The only problem for the Badgers when it comes to seeding is that only one of the big wins came away from the Kohl Center. To be fair they had 4 other shots at big wins Michigan State, Purdue, Ohio State and Gonzaga and for two of those Leuer was not playing (OSU and Pur). But that will hurt their chances some at getting up to a three seed, although a nice run in the BTT will give them a couple more neutral site wins which would be nice.

Another nice touch: the first-half introduction of the Badger women silver medalists for USA hockey. I think the UW arranged that specially for tristarscoop. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
What was the reaction from the basketball crowd?

Rough loss for MU today against ND. I didn't get to see the game, but I expected a win here. I think they are in the tourny either way at this point, but I want them to go in strong. Hopefully they get a couple of wins in the Big East tourny and stay relatively fresh since they probably wont be going to their bench much from here on out.

Buzz Williams, walk it out...
Sigh.

The great thing about UW is they aren't totally reliant on one or two guys. Any one of the starting five can light it up on a given night.

Latest Bracketology has UW as a 5 seed playing St. Mary's in the first round. That would be a poor draw for them.

Considering a 4 seed almost assuredly puts them in Milwaukee for the opening weekend (as the NCAA tends to region-protect their top teams in the 'pod' system), the difference between a 4 & a 5 seed could be huge.

My personal opinion is that seeding is only important if you want to get out of the first weekend alive. If you're gunning for a championship (and there's no reason to think UW can't make a run to the finals) then you're going to have to play and beat good teams to get there no matter what. Now having said that, it pretty much all boils down to which region you get stuck in since some are weaker or stronger than others as a whole.

I don't think this is correct. They would need to move past Purdue to be playing in Milwaukee for the opening weekend. Kentucky is pretty much a lock to be in Milwaukee, as it's the closest site location for them, so they'll have their 1-16, 8-9 teams in their pod here, then Purdue will most likely be a 2, or maybe a 3, so that will slot them in Milwaukee, with their 2-15, 7-10 teams. So basically for Wisconsin to make it to Milwaukee, they need to jump ahead of Purdue, or possibly even Michigan State.

As far as the Big Ten Tournament goes, I feel pretty good saying that either UW or Ohio St. will win. Unfortunately, they're on a crash course to meet in the semis instead of the finals.

Actually this may end up being a good thing, depending on how you look at it. The selection committee has admitted that the Big Ten championship game ends too late on Sunday to have it be much of a factor in the seeding. By (hopefully) facing OSU in the semis, it gives UW a chance to knock them off and have it count. If they met in the finals where the outcome wouldn't really matter, a win over OSU wouldn't help them.

Bracketology was just updated today and it has UW as a 4 in Spokane. Of course Lunardi has Gonzaga as the 5 in Spokane too. It'll be a joke if Gonzaga gets home games for the first weekend. They've only beaten one team that's guaranteed to make it to the tournament, plus lost at 12-18 San Francisco.

Gonzaga as a 5 seed as it is is a joke, giving them home games as that high of a seed is a bigger joke.

Another one that I think is a joke is Kansas State as a #2 seed playing in Oklahoma City.

Wisconsin has pretty much the same record (23-7 for Wisconsin vs 23-6 for Kansas State).

They both have similar bad losses (UWGB and Iowa State)

Kansas State has also lost to Mississippi on a neutral court, @ Missouri, vs Oklahoma State and Kansas twice once at home and once on the road.

Wisconsin has also lost to Gonzaga on a neutral court, @ Michigan State, @ Ohio State without Leuer, @ Purdue without Leuer, vs Illinois without Leuer and @ Minnesota with that being Leuer's first game back.

Each team is 7-3 in their last 10 games although two of Kansas State's losses were to Kansas and the other was a bad loss to Iowa State. Wisconsin lost to Purdue on the road and Illinois at home (without Leuer) and at Minnesota in Leuer's first game back. It's pretty clear how important Leuer is to Wisconsin as they lost at home to Illinois and then came back with Leuer against Illinois on the road and beat them by double digits.

Kansas State's best wins on the year are Xavier, Dayton, UNLV and Texas.

Wisconsin's best wins on the year are Duke, Maryland, Purdue and Michigan State.

So how does that make Kansas State a 2 seed within driving distance of their projected location and Wisconsin a 5 seed having to play 1,700 miles away and likely playing a road game if they advance to the 2nd round.
