College Basketball 2009-2010 (part 2)

Name another team that advanced to the Elite 8 by only beating double digit seeds?

The 2010 West Virginia Mountaineers.

Couldn't find any past instances could you?

I included 9s since it's impossible for a 1 seed to only play double digits and it's still in the lower half of seeds.

1997 Massachusetts beat a 16-9-12

1999 Duke beat a 16-9-12

1999 Michigan State beat a 16-9-13
2000 Oklahoma State beat a 14-11-10
2001 Maryland beat a 14-11-10
2001 Michigan State beat a 16-9-12-(11 to make Final Four)
2004 Kansas beat a 13-12-9
2005 Illinois beat a 16-9-12
2005 Wisconsin beat an 11-14-10
2006 Memphis beat a 16-9-13
2008 UCLA beat a 16-9-12
2009 Louisville beat a 16-9-12
2010 West Virginia beat a 15-10-11

Do you still think it's impressive to make the Elite 8 when that happens? Especially when that's the only Elite 8 he's made? And the only Sweet 16s he's made involve beating 10 seeds or worse? That's my point. His teams can beat up on the Bucknell's of the world. I don't know how anyone can say that Ryan's teams haven't been disappointing in the tournament. That's all I'm saying.

Kentucky having one of the worst free throw shooting nights I've ever seen.

Xavier gets fouled on a 3 when they're down 3. Gus Johnson proceeds to wake up the entire state of Utah. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Xavier is ridiculous right now. I hope this Kentucky game ends quickly so CBS doesn't choose to show us the boring game that's been over for a while over the intense double overtime thriller.

Clearly, MSU should just take that banner down.

Geez, will you just drop it already? I don't think it's that impressive, I'm not discussing it anymore.

Gus Johnson adds a few more to the Gus Johnson soundboard in the Xavier game.

Finally we get to watch the actual good game instead of the game that's been decided for a while now. Is there some contract that they have to stay with a game?

Where are you located? We've had the Xavier game the whole time since Cornell came out of the 2nd half flat here.

Hartland. Apparently the whole Milwaukee area had the Kentucky game until the clock ran out and we would only get the Xavier game during commercials or as an update like the last few seconds of regulation they cut away from the Cornell game after it happened to show us. It was lame.

WOW -- what a game. Crawford's 40-ft. three pointer in the (iirc) first overtime period made me just squeal like a little girl. That's the biggest shot I've ever seen when you factor in distance. It was just a surreal game, and it sucked that one of those teams had to lose.

Joe: On Wall, I agree with what you're saying completely. He's not a good shooter, and can really be careless with the ball. I don't see why he should be some lock for a top-5 pick, personally. He's a phenomenal passer & very strong defender. But that jumper is pretty ugly.

If only CBS would kick Jim Nantz to the curb for the Final Four and let him prepare for Masters Week instead. Gus Johnson doing the Final Four would be sweet music to my ears.

Although, I'm sure that some could argue that he was great at first but is not starting to dip a bit into the Dick Vitale pool of over-exuberance.

I'm not in that crowd but I can see how some would.

I'm glad Kansas State won because they kind of got screwed on that foul call at the end of regulation.
I agree with you 100%!

Yes it is a very good thing they won, now my final 4 is still together. Go Baylor and Ohio State tomorrow.

How's everyone doing in their brackets? I'm actually in first in one league of 61 people. Still have my Final Four left. That's my "opposite" bracket from the other three I did. You can only guess how well I'm doing (or not doing) in the other three.

My first bracket got owned when Kansas lost, just like pretty much everyone in my group so we decided to do a second chance bracket on Yahoo. Started yesterday, only one I picked wrong was the Butler game so I'm in first place in that one and like 37th in the original one.

I have Northern Iowa, Ohio State, Duke and Baylor winning tonight.
