College Basketball 2009-2010 (part 2)

This will probably sound like sour grapes, but I don't see how Washington, an 11 seed, it basically playing a home game in the first round. Seems like Marquette got a raw deal.

Marquette got a six, but they sure got unlucky with Washington drawing the eleven.

This.

I haven't watched a lot of Marquette basketball this year, so I'll assume they haven't played defense and rebounded this poorly the rest of the year, or they wouldn't have made it this far.

It's as far from Seattle to San Jose as it is from Madison to Oklahoma City, for the record. No one would consider that a home game for the Badgers.

Now Spokane would have been a home game...

What a horrible, horrible, first day for the Big East... my goodness. Too bad Marquette, fought all the way to the end, what a good game.

At first glance, one has to wonder about the strength of the Big East.

Villanova was very lucky to beat the 15 seed in OT

Georgetown had their lunches handed to them

Marquette lost to a team from the worst of the BCS Conferences

Notre Dame loses to an 11 in Old Dominion

Now, maybe tomorrow Syracuse, West Virginia, Louisville and Pitt will make everyone forget about today, but Yikes, I firmly believed it was the best conference, but maybe that is just because ESPN told me so...

That arena was not even full. The problem was that all the fans of the late game were cheering for the upset.

Somebody forgot to tell the Big East that the tournament started.

Especially since the big ten is simply an average conference and really won't matter as far as the big dance. Yes, they beat Mich St, but what does that say? State has lost to all the goor or semi good (Carolina) teams they played. The badgers are a surprise but doing well in this conference does not say alot.

Bump.

Apparently all the Big Ten needs to do to have deeper runs than a lot of teams in that super-tough Big East is to make it to Round 2.... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

Not to take anything away from the great season Marquette had this year. They were expected to be a very down team this year, and had a really fantastic season.

Did anyone else notice Sports Illustrated picked the Badgers to lose in the first round in their bracket predictions? Where's Rodney Dangerfield? Those SI picks are pretty bad every year though, so I shouldn't be too surprised.

I dont expect the Big 10 to be world beaters tomorrow either. I think Purdue could lose and Minnesota is obviously an 11 seed, and I dont want to get into the Big 10 vs. Big East pissing match again. I just think two things. The Big 10 is underrated and the Big East is overrated. Now, I am NOT saying that the Big 10 is BETTER than the Big East, just that all this talk of the Big East being so deep and awesome might be a little over blown.

It was probably the best conference this regular season, with the Big 12 a close second. I completely agree with what you're saying, though, RyDogg. The Big East is a huge conference, so they have more room at the top... and bottom.

Wisconsin losing in the first round wouldn't be a big surprise. I could also see them making it to the championship game. They have been up and down all year. They beat a good team and you want to start making an argument for them being in the top 10 then they would lay an egg.

The last few posts have been very good and I want you all to pat yourselves on the back. No reason to argue.......March Madness........

I feel bad for MU, because they fought with everything they had in a pretty hostile environment. If UW can play that hard tomorrow, they will win because of a better matchup.

ESPN radio has been debating all week about "which conference is the best" and in the end, they pretty much all agree that its not the conference at this time of year. Its all up to the kids now.

Yeah, it seems to come down to 'which UW team will show up this game?' I hope they don't lose in the first round, though.

If they lose to Wofford it will be because Diggs & Rundles are on fire from three, & the Badgers' shooting is awful like it was against Illinois. Imo no reasonable projection has UW losing tomorrow, and would probably read something like 60-48 UW.

Wofford's "bigs" are listed at 6'6" & 6'5", so Leuer should have a field day... and good grief if there's ever a game for Nankivil to muscle up in the post, it's this one!

No it wouldn't be reasonable to expect them to lose but would it really be very surprising if they did?

That is what I hate about Wisconsin. Given their style of play, it is almost NEVER a surprise if they get beat in the first round.

Also, I do feel bad for Marquette. They had a great season and they caught a red hot Washington team at the wrong time. That being said, I felt they were in control the entire game up until the end. As far as "home field" advantage goes, as Peavey stated, it is a haul from Washington to San Jose. I dont think it matters where the game would have been. At these opening rounds games, the crowd, especially late in the evening is ALWAYS pulling for the lower seed to pull the upset. The game could have been played in Bangor, Maine and it would have been the same atmosphere for Marquette.

Looks like the Badgers won't have to worry about matching up with Temple. Sheesh.
Earlier this week I read (either in the State Journal or USA Today's special NCAA section) someone's list of top sleeper teams. First on the list? Cornell, naturally.

At least Georgetown's loss Thursday should reduce the media's glaring eye on Wisconsin, if Wofford happens to win today.

Anyone else having problems with the March Madness on Demand feed from cbssports.com. I'm trying to get the game here at work and I can't even get the audio feed to work. I have almost 3 MB of connection speed at my disposal so it's not that.

Is Matt Lapay calling the game in Wisco? Does anyone have a stream to his call? The Westwood announcers are killing me.
If there is a local stream, it's probably not free.

Sweet crap, Wisconsin, wake up.
