I suppose it doesn't hurt to ask, especially since Boston was down on him at the time. But Boston has a deep system, including some decent pitchers. I'm surprised Melvin couldn't work out a deal. Perhaps it was Middlebrooks or nothing, which would explain why nobody was interesting in trading with us at the deadline.
