The Combined 'We're Trading Greinke' Thread (part 3)

Are there any ACTUAL rumors out there? I keep hearing Garza for Zach Lee, Dempster for Delgado, etc, etc. Are they any legit rumors out there?

If Garza, Dempster and Anibal Sanchez are landing the talent they are landing, what does it say about Zach Greinke's market value if all we are talking about is how teams WONT give us decent prospects for him?

Then you can sign a Marcum (or equivalent) or trade for a SP.

Or you just pick up Wolf's option. It would give the rotation a lefty and allow the young pitchers to sort themselves out. While we have some nice options in Thornburg, Peralta, Burgos, Rogers, etc but it isn't likely all of them will pan out.

Well the Sanchez deal included Infante and Dempster has better numbers than Greinke. If we can get Olt I'd take it, though I'd like to see a corresponding move made. That would be either trading Ramirez or Hart.

Greinke for Olt

Hart for Marte and Heredia

That would really excite me.

I was gonna say, Olt has one year in AA.

I wouldn't mind him staying in the minors this year and the beginning of next year. I'd hope the Brewers would put him on the sounds right away, not send him to huntsville at first.

1) I doubt Greinke is the only player traded before next season, and I'd bet we'll pick up at least one SP in trade who will be in the 2013 rotation.

2) Teams could be leery of offering Marcum a long-term deal, and assuming he's healthy I'd be happy if the Brewers were able to re-sign him to a 2-3 year deal. I'd be really happy if he accepted the one-year $12MM deal.

3) I don't know what we have in Fiers and Estrada, but if they continue pitching the way they have, they would solve a lot of our rotation problems.

4) We have a lot of SP in the minors who are getting closer and closer to MLB ready. I don't know if Thornburg, Peralta, etc will start 2013 in the MLB rotation, but they should at least get a shot.

5) If we don't re-sign Greinke, and if we were to trade away any other vets like Hart and/or Ramirez, we will have a lot of money. When you have financial flexibility, you could look at FA's, but you could also do something like taking on salary in a trade. When you do this during the offseason, you can sometimes pick up a decent vet with a year or so left on his contract without giving up much in return. If we really need a fifth starting pitcher (options 1-4 above don't fill all the spots), I could see Melvin looking at teams with extra SP who are looking to get rid of one of the veterans to save some money. I'd rather fill it other ways, but it's an option.

A lot will depend on whether or not we're "going for it" next year. If so, I doubt we'd start the year with Fiers, Estrada and a rookie or two in the rotation. If we're using 2013 to break in some of our prospects (the ones we currently have and the ones we'll hopefully trade for), then we should have no problem filling the rotation.

I think the Rangers are waiting to see if Hamels officially resigns or not. When he does, they have to be a strong candidate for Greinke after today. They just got a little more desperate with Lewis going down for the season. Profar is the piece we need, even if it costs a multi-player deal. Olt isn't enough in my mind. I think Olt only happens if a Ramirez deal is going down with LA.

Rumor has it (per Tom Haudricourt) that Marcum would be receptive to a 1 year deal with the Brewers that will allow him to reestablish his value for a longer term deal after 2013.

I'd be all for that. Not much risk involved for the Brewers, and would greatly help the rotation next season with no long-term commitment.

I think the Rangers won't deal Profar, certainly not for a rental. Maybe, and a slight maybe, they trade Profar if Greinke agrees to an extension with the Rangers at the time of the trade.

Profar looks like the next Trout/Harper

Honestly I'd be thrilled with Olt for Greinke straight up. My concern is Melvin will be locked into a "must get pitching back" mindset and will trade Greinke for a pitcher who will be less valuable than Olt

That is, assuming that Olt is available. If I was the Rangers there is no way I'd trade either Profar or Olt

This would be perfect for the Brewers. Especially if it can be incentive-laden.
