The Combined 'We're Trading Greinke' Thread (part 3)

Colby Lewis is out for the year, and may need Tommy John. Melvin better be talking to the Rangers already.

Get Jon Daniels on line #1, Jerry Dipoto on line #2, and let the bidding begin.

I don't know if anyone else is familiar with the Brewer Nation blog, it's the first time I've ever been there. But today's post says Melvin is asking for a MLB-ready pitcher and either a SS or 1B prospect for Greinke. There's also some info on other Brewer trading chips. I think we could use a 3B prospect more than 1B, but ultimately quality matters more than position.

Interesting stuff on there but like you said who knows if it is accurate. A MLB-ready pitcher ans SS would be terrific. Honestly, when you think about what we gave up for Greinke - the two biggest pieces were a pitcher that is about MLB-ready and SS - it is kind of funny.

Also made mention of people calling about Hart. Not sure who would be in our lineup next year without him but I would be willing to move him for the right price. Rebuilds can happen quickly with the right trades as Arizona found out last year - although maybe that was fluke thing with how they are playing this year.

Angels look like a perfect fit.

MLB-ready pitcher = Garrett Richards

SS prospect = Jean Segura

1B prospect = C.J. Cron

None of those prospects are as quality as Olt, though. That's a nice return, but it's quantity over Texas' quality if they could manage to get Olt.

Going into the year Richards was the 83 ranked prospect and Segura the 55th. Cron is interesting but seems old for his league

Olt was the 43rd ranked prospect. Now I dont know where they would stand right now but I would be happy with either return unless Richards is over ranked. His MLB numbers outside of ERA are not inspiring

Baseball America released updated rankings in early July (top 50 only), and Olt is now #11. The others did not make the top 50.

Thanks! I didnt really look too closely. I guess the question would be, "would you rather have a top 15 prospect or a two top 80 prospects?" I would lean toward the one top prospect but getting a couple guys make for less of a chance for a bust trade.

Of course Roenicke had to come out today and make a stupid comment saying that it may take Greinke 3-4 starts to get right again. Hopefully that doesn't turn off teams, but it still wasn't a smart comment on his part. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/danny-knobler/19642525/brewers-say-greinke-is-fine,-but-he'd-better-prove-it-soon-(preferably-tuesday)

Actually I missed Segura, he did make the list at #43 in the updated rankings.

"I think in his next 3-4 starts we'll see what [starting three straight games] did to him," the Brewers manager said.

Seriously? He threw four pitches in game 1, 3 innings the next day and then 5 days later he pitched on normal rest. Other than an asterisk next to his name that he started three straight games. How did that mess with him? Playing 2 days in a row? If he's that mentally week, don't let the door hit you on the way out Zack. And if our manager doesn't know any better, send him packing to manage the olympics team (as in special).....

Sweet, so in 1 paragraph you make fun of physically disabled and mentally challenged people.

Which physically disabled person did I make fun of?

And if having RR manage the special olympics team is your idea of making fun of mentally challenged people then i am guilty of making fun of Ron Roenicke. Mentally challenged? you bet.

All we can hope for is Greinke for Olt. That may be a big reach. Remember we got Sabathia for Laporta who wasn't even in the top 25. I know they got Brantley as well, which turned out pretty nicely for the Indians.

I would be pumped to get Olt straight up for Greinke.

I would rather have Richards, Segura, and Cowart over that package. I would even take Cowart over Olt.
