GM's know who and what Greinke is. One more start won't change anything. They're all just posturing to try to lower his trade value.

When you are talking millions of dollars on the line, all information is used. I sure would be lowering what I offer for Greinke if I traded for him today. If he comes back with a strong game against the Phillies, then the skipped start may actually be considered a benefit for the trading team as Greinke should be set to go for the rest of the season.

I suppose if the Brewers feel he is healthy but he has a poor start against the Phillies (and his value is down) they can make part of the trade be a minor leaguer to be named later whose value increases/decreases dependent on the number of Greinke starts.

It's meaningless because it's impossible to neutralize fielding through backwards calculations at this point in time.
FIP estimates how a pitcher would perform with a given HR, BB and K rate if he had average results on BIP. If you think is useless, I better never hear your quote a pitcher's in season ERA as an indicator of his true talent.

FIP is not a projection. WAR is not a projection. They are tools that provide insight.

Has there been anything stating that Greinke rejected the contract extension offer? I know he confirmed the offer but haven't seen anything as to him rejecting it.

I saw somewhere that Ken Rosenthal confirmed he turned it down. I'll try to find it.

EDIT:

Here it is.

I know it's been mentioned over & over, but if the Brewers trade him, and then put this exact same offer out there this offseason, I have to think there is a very good chance that they re-sign him. Someone might blow everyone out of the water with an offer, but this is a pretty fair offer.

That's the only place I've seen that and he doesn't site even an anonymous source. I googled it and didn't get anything on him rejecting it yet so I think that's speculation or other people would have tried to get more information on it.

He likely will reject it but I don't think thats the case yet.

Why doesn't Melvin put a drop-dead date on offers? Why hamstring the franchise while waiting for a player to make up his mind?

With the Cub rumors flying around, I'd tell Greinke we need to know what he's going to do right now, and then I'd start making calls to other teams. If he's traded before he gives you an answer, too bad.

They can't do anything until Greinke goes out and pitches tomorrow and looks healthy. Nobody will want him right now after we skipped a start for no reason.

If he is injured the Brewers can't trade him anyway so there'd be no point in trying to hide it. Teams may want to see what his velocity is but I can't imagine skipping his start turned off any teams who are interested.

I am guessing he makes the start tomorrow and then all bets are off and DM will just move on. Considering we face Halladay and Lee the next two days it is pretty unlikely that we will be closer to the playoffs Wednesday than we are today.

I fear some teams are freaked out about Greinke, and his value may have gone way down. He hasn't pitched well his last couple outings, mysteriously sits out, etc. Add a sub-par playoff performance last year. Not saying everyone is scared off, but if even a couple contenders are scared off, it could really hurt Melvin's ability to play this with a strong hand.

So it's very possible that both Delgado and Turner are guys we could have gotten in exchange for Greinke. How many more young, cheap, talented pitchers are going to be traded away before Melvin makes up his mind?

IMO, Melvin has made up his mind. Usually when he negotiates he tends to find his partner and works with them. My guess is he's got his team and something is in the works. They can't do anything until after Greinke showcases himself tomorrow night anyway. Given his history, my guess is it's the Rangers.

Funny how a meaningless game between two of the NL's most disappointing teams has become the Brewers most important game of the year. I'd tune in...it's probably the last time you'll ever see ZG on the mound in a Brewers uniform.

I agree with this. I think Greinke will be gone by the end of the day on Wednesday.

In the Rangers desperation for a front end starter for their play-off run, is it possible we still might end up with their "untouchable" ss?

What a way to raise our spirits by putting Profar into our system...
