The Combined 'We're Trading Greinke' Thread (part 3)

I also would want no part of trading Fiers right now. I know he probably won't keep this up but I don't want to trade him and he does. You just don't trade pitchers you control for 5 more years that have an ERA under 2 through the first 2 months of there MLB career; even if they really are only 4 ERA type pitchers.

John Smoltz spoke really highly of Fiers recently on the MLB Network. I think Fiers could be a solid #3 pitcher someday and maybe even better. He hides the ball incredibly well

When all we had was position prospects all I ever heard was how we would never be able to trade them for young pitching prospects. Now that the cupboard is bare of position prospects all I hear is that even if we offer pitching we could never obtain a good position player. I know we need to be realistic in our ideas of what our players could bring in return be now we are talking about Greinke, Fiers who is pitching fantastically and was the Brewer's minor league pitcher of the year and a young closer who up until a month ago was one of the best in the game for one position player? Is Profar the next Jeter?

I'm loving this Fiers dominance as much as the next person, but come on, there is no team in baseball that is going to value him highly enough to be a key part of a Profar trade. Fiers was a non-prospect coming into this season.

I agree that Fiers is probably a 4 ERA guy over the next few years... but 5 more years of that at a lower salary is something the Brewers can't give up. We need good starting pitchers very badly after this year.

But it's not like you'd be giving up those five years for nothing. Presumably, Profar would fill the SS hole with a plus glove and bat for just as cheap. It's all a moot point anyway, as this would never happen, but people always complain that we don't sell high on guys, but then don't want to do it for a variety of reasons when that scenario presents itself.

I am all for selling high on relievers and corner OF. Positions that are easy or cheap to replace. If Fiers ends up as even a 4th starter he is not easy or cheap to replace.
