The Combined 'We're Trading Greinke' Thread (part 3)

Can someone more familiar with Teheran explain why he's so highly rated? His strikeout rate is pretty bad this year, and last year it wasn't very good either. His walk rate is solid, and he's young for his level, so maybe that is the reason?

Baseball Prospectus raves about him: great stuff, great fastball, great poise. Speculation is he's been rushed up to MLB. I'm actually hoping for Teheran more than Olt at this point

Perfect Game's pre-2012 Braves top prospects list notes that Teheran already has a very good FB & CH. The author (David Rawnsley) notes that Teheran's inconsistency with his slider & CB are what have held him back a bit at the higher levels of MiLB, but he also comments a couple times that Teheran is young enough that no one should be panicking yet about his secondary pitches.

If Teheran is the centerpiece for Greinke, you can't get much more 'high-upside' than that. The rest of this week is going to be very interesting.

Teheran has two present plus Major League pitches in a mid 90s fastball that touches 97-98 mph with good life and an outstanding change up that he uses with the confidence of a veteran hurler. He will throw both a curveball and a slider at times, but neither has consistent quality spin and action to it, and improving on one or both of these pitches is the final piece to Teheran’s puzzle.

I posted this in the Greinke thread in the MLB forum, too... Perfect Game's take

Rawnsley's take is that the inconsistency with his breaking balls is what's held Teheran back in the upper levels thus far.

So the White Sox want Grienke "Badly"

I don't know if there is a match; the farm system looks pretty bare.

it really does. Speculation has been they could do a 3 team trade somehow involving Gavin Floyd. I just don't see it

Would the White Sox involve Addison Reed in a trade and go with Myers as their closer? I don't see it. And I would hope we could get more than a closer as the centerpiece of a Greinke deal. Reed was the #1 White Sox prospect going into the season and has been good but not lights out as a 23 year old MLB closer this year

The White Sox have a really bad minor league system. There really isn't anything there that stands out and is something that I would want in return for Greinke. But if the White Sox are serious I would take Addison Reed, Tyler Saladino, ........... screw it the White Sox really do not have anything of value for Greinke. The White Sox would have to get a third team involved in order to get Greinke. I do not see the White Sox as a serious bidder for Greinke and I do not see anything in there farm system that is even worth looking at.

I want a Ferrari really badly, & will trade in my current vehicle to get more cash to buy one!

I bet the ChiSox want Greinke, but I want no part of the prospects they'd have to offer.

The White Sox do have Jose Quintana. While he's been terrific this year, he sort of came out of nowhere and I'm not sure the Sox trust him in a heated race. Remember they didn't trust Hudson a couple years ago and sent him to Arizona to rent Edwin Jackson.. From the Brewer perspective, its a plus that he's left handed.

I suppose something a little creative could be done too, say Greinke and Weeks for Floyd and Beckham. But that's just wishful thinking on my part (getting someone to take Weeks that is).

An article speculating that the Rangers will be in on Greinke and that Olt isn't a "good fit" because of Aramis Ramirez. (cue Scooby Doo voice) "huh?"

Anyways.... they say Feliz or Martin Perez could be part of a deal. Not sure what to think about Feliz, especially as he hurt his elbow and is on a rehab start now. He's arby eligible in 2013 and would be a free agent in 2016

Obviously I wouldn't complain, but I would prefer Perez or another young pitcher over Feliz. 3 fewer years of team control, injury concerns, and not clear he can thrive as a starter.

The more I read about Teheran the more I'd be thrilled if the Brewers traded for him. Baseball Prospectus had him as the #6 overall prospect at the beginning of the year. The thought is that his struggles this year are more about him being rushed to MLB than anything else, and he still projects as a #1 or #2 starter....

Ken Rosenthal says the White Sox want Greinke badly

Do they have anything that could be of interest? I've heard not, but I have to admit I know nothing about the White Sox' system.

White Sox have Ryan Kussmaul, a reliever at AA who's got a career WHIP of 0.921 with 252 K's in 210 innings. Don't have any idea how he throws but he's a Wisconsin native.

They also have Carlos Sanchez, a Venezuelan middle infielder that just turned 20 last month and who was just promoted to AA Birmingham after hitting .315/.374/.395 in the Carolina league. He's 7 for 12 in his first 3 games at AA. If he's a legit SS (he's split time between SS and 2B in his career), maybe he'd make a nice piece. Another plus is he's a switch hitter.

PG's recap of their system has the following comment on the guy they rate out at #1 (ahead of Addison Reed): "Lacking a true out pitch, Molina relies on his ability to work ahead and execute his pitches well, his curveball and splitter both flash above average potential, but neither is likely to generate a lot of punch outs in the Majors."

If that's the #1 guy...

Exactly what the Brewers should be looking for -- a RP prospect

He got his top 10 prospect status due to his minor league numbers before this year.

Last year in AAA - 2.55ERA 1.18WHIP 122K's in 144IP

He's been a bit of a turd this year in AAA though

5.34ERA 1.48WHIP 64K's in 91IP

Had a spot start against Toronto. Went 4IP, with 5K's but gave up 4ER

It's too bad the White Sox don't have a farm system if they're as eager as has been reported. Simon Castro, Saladino and Carlos Sanchez would all be nice additions to the Brewers' system but they aren't comparable to the guys we've been discussing from other teams.

He got that status by having an electric arm with two plus pitches already... but also from his success at the lower levels of the minors. The arm is the important thing here, though.
