The Combined 'We're Trading Greinke' Thread (part 3)

That's awesome!

GREINKE AND ARAMIS TO THE DOYERS!!!!!

Do they plan on putting Hanley at 3B or SS (replacing Gordon) though? My initial reaction to the Hanley trade was that they'd no longer be in the market for Aramis.

#Rangers and #Marlins have discussed Josh Johnson, sources confirm. @MLBONFOX

This is from 3 minutes ago from one of the most credible sources there is. That doesn't sound like anything close to a done deal to me, they are just talking.

I have come full circle on this. Trade ARam and Grienke....keep Braun, Lucroy, Gallardo, and Weeks. Be open to dealing Hart for the right deal, but have to admit I like him as a 1stbaseman.

Deal KRod, Wolf, any reliever...maybe not Axford. If someone offers us some value for Marcum, consider it, but not opposed to keeping him.

Eliminate as much salry as possible to then sign mid level FA's next offseason. Stay competative until the young Arms Come up.

We obviously need talant at every position other than Catcher and LF....so get the best talent possible.

Can they trade Dee since he is on the DL? I never understand that rule

I think players on the DL cannot be traded.

They're not going to give up Gordon for A-Ram anyways. As horrible as Gordon has been so far, he was still their #1 prospect going into 2011 (and is still young, and is still a SS). Maybe as part of a Greinke deal.

i'd really think hart would fit with pittsburgh. his contract is pretty good and they are looking for either a 1B or OF and hart is both. i'm a big fan of corey but if we could get marte, bell, heredia, or locke for him i'd hope they'd listen.

It still makes complete sense for the Dodgers to deal for Aramis. Put Aramis at 3B and Hanley at SS, especially given the fact that Dee Gordon would most assuredly be a part of a deal for Aramis now given the presence of Hanley.

I don't really want Dee Gordon, but his value is really low right now so if he's in a deal I'm not going to complain. He can't get on base, he doesn't hit for power, and he doesn't field well. But, if he's basically just thrown into the package I'd be willing to see if he can get it together, because he did have a decent MiLB track record.

Heyman said the Braves will definitely be targeting Greinke, which makes sense. So don't be shocked if the deal centered around Delgado ends up being reality. I'm still holding out hope that we can do better, but if it came down to the deadline and it was either take Delgado or hold onto Greinke for the pick, I'd definitely take Delgado.

And having just traded their third basemen you have to imagine Florida will take it. I give Florida a lot of credit. They are not sitting back twiddling their thumbs, trying to decide if they want to sell, wondering who they want.

...and made the trades the same week or possibly day that Greinke will be traded as well?

Meanwhile Doug JUST decided he wanted to trade Greinke even though it should have been clear a month ago and he refuses to part with Corey Hart who is only signed for one more season but may have more trade value than Greinke.

The deadline is still nearly a week away. Are people concerned that we're going to be left at the alter without a suitor? This WHY ARE WE JUST SITTING AROUND INSTEAD OF DOING SOMETHING?!?! mentality puzzles me at this point. If it's next Monday and Zach is still a Brewer (without having signed an extension), then there's reason to wonder what's going on. Plenty of time before then.

This Blog says the Brewers would be focused more on Julio Teheran instead of Delgado, and the Brewers would want Teheran plus another prospect. Pure speculation? Teheran has really struggled in both AAA and MLB this season

There aren't that many teams with top prospects who will be willing to trade them for Greinke. If some combination of Johnson/Shields/Garza/Dempster get traded first, Brewers could very well find themselves with no trade options (or be forced to take a garbage return from a team like the White Sox).

That also means that teams get more desperate to keep up with their foes as well. See the White Sox- they weren't even mentioned in the Greinke rumors until the Tigers upgraded and made them have to explore options.

And with Hamels and Dempster now (reportedly, in the later case) off the market, Greinke is by far the biggest prize on the market even if Johnson ends up in Texas.

a week is still a lot of time. i'd bet that DM has given a high price tag to every single interested team and is patiently waiting to see who flinches. that's how Boras has always worked with his top FAs--wait until very late to sign because then you get the best offer. so what if the Rangers grab Johnson; there are plenty of other interested teams out there.

that said, maybe it should get done before Sunday. Greinke's value isn't going to go up with another good start, but what would teams think if he gets shelled in his last outing for us?

if so many teams are hesitating to throw in a top prospect for a rental, then why not throw in a prospect with Greinke to make the trade happen? Greinke and a B prospect for an A+, ML-ready prospect would be great.

Can someone more familiar with Teheran explain why he's so highly rated? His strikeout rate is pretty bad this year, and last year it wasn't very good either. His walk rate is solid, and he's young for his level, so maybe that is the reason?

I wouldn't put too much stock in one bad year, many people considered him the best pitching prospect in baseball coming into the year, and he's only 21 at AAA/MLB. Would be a tremendous return for Greinke, especially if Melvin can buy-low and get the Braves to throw in another solid piece too.

The more I read about Teheran the more I'd be thrilled if the Brewers traded for him. Baseball Prospectus had him as the #6 overall prospect at the beginning of the year. The thought is that his struggles this year are more about him being rushed to MLB than anything else, and he still projects as a #1 or #2 starter....
