The Combined 'We're Trading Greinke' Thread (part 4)

I would take Chicago's hypothetical package over 1 comp pick.

Non-prospect like Quintana who has had a good month in the MLB, plus a couple other similar players? I would honestly prefer the sandwich pick.

In terms of mystery team:

Greinke + Gomez to WAS

Rendon + Meyer to MIL

you are nuts, you'd rather take a player that may never make it out of A+ ball vs players who are actually already playing in the majors???

You can pick plenty of crappy pitchers who have played in the majors off the scrapheap every year, if that's the only criterion.

The point is you would probably getting 2-3 players that have already made it through the minors. If just one of them turns out to be an average major leaguer, that's a better return than what you expect from a comp pick. If we were talking the old system where it would be a first rounder and a comp pick, that's a little different.

I would take re signing Zach over any trade. Pay the man. I for one, do not want to go back to "rebuilding mode". Went through that enough as a Brewer fan.

We tried. He refused. Trading him away does not 100% rule out the Brewers still signing him in the offseason.

If Zach HAS to be traded, then take the best package of Major leaguers, or close to major leaguers as you can. It's the only way to maintain some semblance of a chance to win the next couple years. Screw A, AA prospects, they are too far away to matter.

Yes, take a worse package because they're not close enough to the majors.

I really hope that DM doesn't settle for just 'a nice package'. Just because you get a lot of stuff doesn't mean that's a good thing - it's still just .. stuff.

I think those were my exact words last time I went to the Old Country Buffet.

Hey...we may be on to something. If Melvin does a deal like that, he will forever be called Doug "Golden Corral" Melvin.

That's way too nice, I don't even want to consider the possibility...

Did they?? You add one more year to what you offered(supposedly), and make it 6 years /134 Million and I bet he's already signed the contract and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Come on, Doug. We have a Ryan "Chocolate Wonderfall" Braun, but we need a "Cotton Candy Machine"!!!

That type of thinking, which I agree with, is one of the reasons I'd be thrilled with SS Jean Segura of the Angels. He raked in AAA as a 22 year old this year and just made his MLB debut

Prince already signed with Detroit.

Oh, so guys that are already in the majors, or very close to it, are WORSE than young guys that may or may not pan out?? Seems to me the major leaguers have already proven themselves, or they wouldn't be major leaguers. Besides, it's not like you are going to get some scrub major leaguers for Zach anyway. He's a star. You get stars in return or you don't deal him. Period. For instance, the White Sox desperately want Zach as has been reported. Ok, so you play on that desperation...I tell the Sox, that if they really want Zach, a package MUST include Paul Konerko. Yes, he's 36, but he still rakes, and probably will for at least 2-3 more years. He'd look awfully good as at least a 2-3 year replacement for Fielder. No, that wouldn't be all I want of course, I better also get at least ONE very good prospect like Addison reed as well. But since Chicago isn't loaded with young talent, Konerko MUST be part of the deal. See how desperate they are for Zach.

It should be painfully obvious that Konerko has 10-5 rights and would reject any deal to Milwaukee.

I know that is hypothetical and all with Konerko, but in no way would Chicago want to trade one of their biggest run producers in the heat of a playoff race. And I don't want a player that is about 7 years removed from his prime for our player that IS in his prime. No thank you.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Angels "remain very much involved" in talks for a trade with the Brewers for right-hander Zack Greinke.

Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reported earlier in the day Friday that the Angels might prefer Greinke over Rays right-hander James Shields and Marlins right-hander Josh Johnson. Likewise, Morosi notes that Greinke holds the Angels in high regard and would likely be amenable to signing a contract extension with the club if the price is right. The Braves, White Sox and Rangers are also hot on the trail for the impending free agent, though ESPN's Jayson Stark reported Friday that Atlanta is now prioritizing bullpen and bench help over adding another starter.
