The Combined 'We're Trading Greinke' Thread (part 4)

It certainly shouldn't be ruled out. Here is what Lucroy had to say about that:

Lucroy believes that, assuming Greinke's acquiring team does not sign him to an extension first, the Brewers would be in position to bring him back.

"I really, honestly think so," Lucroy said. "I know he likes it here -- I know he loves it here. So, whatever happens, he could come back. You never know. It's up to him."

Please do not get my hopes up on that. It would be incredibly awesome, but it sounds too good to be true. If we really were able to sign him I find it hard to believe we wouldn't have just locked him up right away. If it does happen it'll be amazing, but I'd rather have it come as the best surprise of the year than be thinking it can happen and then it doesn't.

Remember that foolish rumor that someone started that C.C. opted out of his Yankees deal because he wanted to return to the Brewers? Well, I hate to burst anyone's bubble, but I'd say that the odds that Greinke is traded and then returns via free agency are about the same those were. Think about it, the man walked away from 9 figures guaranteed.... left it on the table. Honestly, if he 'loves' Milwaukee that much, why would he do that? Solely for the opportunity to be a member of one of ten teams in the playoffs this year? If so, his desire to win is likely greater than anyone in baseball history (except for maybe Pete Rose with 50 grand on the game). I say that he's either: 1.) not as keen on Milwaukee as people are saying and/or 2.) he and his agent believe that he's going to hit the mother lode in about four or five months. If either of those two things are true, the Brewers have no shot.

I hold no hope of this actually happening, but Greinke seems like the one player that would be crazy enough to do this, even if it was just in his own head and not an actual plan with Doug.

I laughed way too hard at that. Mean, but funny.

Wasn't meant to be mean or funny. Just trying to say I can imagine him working out the scheme to (IF he wanted to return to the Brewers) turn down the extension get traded (with the happy byproduct of playing for a title), then re-sign in the offseason, netting his team some help. He's no dummy, he knows there are holes to fill, and him pitching for the Brewers for a couple months isn't going to help.

I asked days ago for this to be done. Problem is/was that the same Greinke arguments/debates were being repeated in both threads. Good job moot.

I have tix to Sunday's game. I realize Greinke won't pitch (he better not), but I still may wear my Greinke jersey.

I wish they would just get this over with.

Dougie's too busy making sure he can swing a deal for Kotteras to field calls about Greinke..... if the Brewers could only afford more than 1 phone line or a GM who can multitask.....

The completely fabricated C.C. opting out rumor to come back to Milwaukee is no where near the same situation as Greinke. He himself as stated several times how much he likes it here along with several other players repeating the same thing. Lucroy and Greinke from everything I have read are very good friends, along with their wives. You have to think that has some legs to it unlike the C.C. rumor.

I agree with this. Plus the fact, the Yankee's were not going to be denied CC. They would have just kept raising the cost until he signed. So it didn't really matter where CC felt like going. In the end, money won and it usually does. With Greinke though, since he is a little different, you might get something different.
