2008 Vent Thread (part 6)

I suppose there are plenty of fine people in New York and Philadelphia elated with what's transpiring in Cincinnati. I use the word "suppose" because I have yet to be convinced that there are indeed fine people living in those two places. I don't know what the people of Milwaukee did to deserve this fate over the last 26 years, but it's awfully disheartening.
I am a fine person living in New York.

I'll take your word for it, and re-phrase by saying that I'm not convinved there are any fine Mets and Phillies fans out there.

What I am talking about with Durham is the fact that his previous manager, Bochy, said that he should only be used 2-3 times a week and he had previous hamstring issues just a couple months back after we acquired him. He probably was worn out playing so much.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Its late sept. man and he is a veteran trying to get this team to the postseason. 6 games in a row is not that much. I would bet that Ray would say the same thing. Stuff happens

It didn't have to. Weeks had been hitting very well for a couple months now. All you do by changing managers is switch one set of dumb decisions for another.

Get real. Did you watch the cubs series? Durham felt like a leader out there to me

I don't make decisions based on one series. Both Durham and Weeks have been hitting pretty well. Durham has had hamstring problems this season and I think it is best he only plays a couple times a week. I will no longer be reading or responding to your pots because I consider "get real" rude and not really necessary to make your point.

If "get rea"l is rude to you I apologize. I didn't mean it to be. It was the same to me as saying "c'mon". I agree with what you are saying about Durham being a little long in the tooth and all that, but its the last 2 weeks of the season and I have absolutely no problem with Dale sending his best 9 out there the rest of the way against all RHP during that stretch to try to get the team to the postseason. How can you fault a guy for trying to win with his best lineup? I cant. Hindsight it 20-20

Well said, brewmann04. The emperor's new clothes are what they are and the dude's exposed as can be, as it were.

I can't fault Sveum for any of this. The Brewers really aren't this bad of a team. Their record through August was no mirage. But all this September ugliness and its timing should give Melvin & Co. a more realistic sense of who has what it takes to get this team to the next level. So far, it seems pretty evident that...

- in the OF, Braun & Hart are keepers. Cameron may be, too, but his Sept. swoon raises serious questions again. Kapler definitely is a keeper. OF #5 for '09 is a good mystery. Gwynn either needs to be playing on the Milwaukee bench or for another organization....

- Hardy & Fielder merit keeping. Fielder, esp., could be used as a bargaining chip. Hall & Counsell don't merit keeping. Weeks should merit keeping but never stops shooting himself in the foot. Branyan......hmmmm.... Personally, I like Dillon as a reserve.

- Kendall & Rivera behind the plate is a good situation, the only real detraction being Kendall's declining bat.

- the Brewers should try to pawn off Jeff Suppan. Maybe include him with Fielder in a deal for a good starting pitcher.

Glad U-Verse had an outage in my area tonight. Didn't have the chance to watch, well I could've gone to the bar but knowing Suppan was pitching on short rest when he sucks on regular rest was enough of a reason not to go. Not surprised at all by the result.

One of the worst things about this type of ending to this season is that most of the players you'd want to pawn off are playing so crappy that they're driving their value so far down. In most cases, "potential" is hardly a worthwhile discussion item because their proven performance has looked so bad.
