CM Punk; WWE Has Me Hooked Again (2012 Official Pro Wrestling Thread)

I don't think Michaels made his opponents look good like Flair did. Nor did he carry them to 60 minute draws all the time and make stars out of them. Michaels wouldn't job to anyone who wasn't his buddy, while Flair was all about the business. Michaels was a good worker, but I'm not a fan of those aspects of his career. I liked the match they did together for the Flair retirement angle, though.

Honestly I think Michaels cemented himself more later in his career in his last WWE run from 2002-2010. Not sure how much you saw of him, since I know you said you didn't watch for a period during those years. I think it was pretty incredible for him to come back and get even better after all the injuries and problems he had. I thought his matches with Undertaker at Wrestlemania were fantastic, given the horrible condition Undertaker was in at the time too. I won't argue with you though. Flair was fantastic. Usually when people talk about the best ever, they mention Flair and Michaels. Usually one of those two every time. I guess I'm partial to Michaels because I saw a lot more of his matches. I didn't watch WCW as much as I watched WWE back in those times. I will have to go back and watch some more Ric Flair matches. Not sure if he has a DVD set or not, but I'd get that if he does.

Yeah, I did see some of the later Shawn matches. I thought the comeback street fight match he did with HHH at Summerslam was pretty incredible, and I rarely enjoy HHH matches. I don't think I have seen those Taker matches, so I should check those out. He and Flair are sort of apples and oranges, since Flair wasn't doing moonsaults or any top rope stuff or anything like that. Flair's prime was really in the '80s, as opposed to the Monday Night War era when Shawn was on top for the first time. There are a couple Flair DVD sets that the WWE put out, plus a Four Horsemen one. I think the one that is probably better is The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection since it has more of his '80s stuff against Steamboat on it. Those matches were completely awesome, so were the matches he did with Terry Funk around the same time. It also has the '92 Rumble on it, which is my personal favorite Rumble match.

I'm gonna have to check that DVD set out. Sounds great. I have seen the '92 Rumble. It was fantastic as you said. I decided to re-watch all of the Rumble matches awhile back. I'm currently on the 2007 match. Another one of my favorites was 2001 when Kane had all those eliminations. It would be cool if Kane finally got a Rumble victory, but I know it won't happen. It was funny seeing him come in as Isaac Yankem in I believe it was the 1996 Rumble match. The guys been in every Rumble match since then. Ridiculous.

Well, I'm going to watch Mania 25 and 26 tonight. I do look forward to the Michaels/Taker matches. Do I also get to see heel Orton? No spoilers (obviously I know Taker wins), since I have never seen these and I like to look at them with fresh eyes.

The MITB from 25 was a total botchfest... Shelton Benjamin was just dangerous.

Speaking of botchfest: divas battle royale. Yikes.

How did Taker not die from that plancha? My god.

As a whole, I did not care for 25 all that much. What a dead crowd for HHH/Orton. And of course HHH had to go over. Can't stand him.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of 25 at all, except for the Michaels/Taker match. 26 was a better show in my opinion. Although neither was that great. The booking was just off. Thankfully 27 picked it up. I think this year's show will be fantastic. At least from the speculated matches. Rock/Cena Y2J/Punk. Hoping for Orton/Barrett. Not sure what the WHC match will be. Also, MITB is rumored to be back which will help the show a lot. That match was missed last year.

I didn't like 27 that much, either. I wasn't as huge of a fan of Taker/HHH as some are. The main event kind of sucked and was rushed.

As far as the Rumble, I could see Orton winning it now like was originally planned before his injury and then facing Henry, I imagine. Maybe an outside chance that Bryan still has it by then. Wade Barrett needs to go far away. That's as dead of a heel as I have seen in a while.

I would say there's a good chance that someone from Smackdown wins the Rumble, and Bryan drops the title before Mania. I honestly don't see Orton winning it. Seems way too predictable to have him win in his hometown. Vince usually avoids letting stuff like that happen. I could see him winning the title at Elimination Chamber though and facing the Rumble winner. It seems like Bryan is turning heel though, which makes me think he has a chance to keep the title. Personally, I'd love to see Cody Rhodes win the Rumble even though I know it's very unlikely to happen. I agree with you that Henry needs to be in the title match at Mania. He's the only heel on Smackdown that is completely over. Not sure what else he'd do at Mania if he wasn't in the WHC match. He'd be horrible in MITB. I'd rather see Bryan in MITB after dropping the title.

Henry is really the only heel on the whole roster that is over aside from Johnny Ace. I think it won't be too long before the fans turn him because he is so awesome.

On the topic of Ace, I hope they don't do him vs Punk for quite a while. That feud has huge potential if they let it simmer for a while. It seems they are setting up a Vince/Austin style of feud with it, and that should work because they are both very good in their roles.

I don't want Orton to win the Rumble, either. I want Ziggler to. Hopefully he puts on a solid showing vs Punk without too much help from Laurinitis and then has the big-time showing in the Rumble and wins it. It's time for the Spring of Ziggler.

I love what they're doing with Bryan. He wasn't a very interesting face, but he's fantastic as a heel and aside from Henry and Ziggler there really aren't any good ones on either brand. Smackdown is really lacking in the talent department compared to RAW though, wow.

Watched the two ECW "One Night Stand" PPV's today for the first time, since as a diehard fan of the original ECW, I couldn't bring myself to watch them before, and I had nothing to do today. First one was pretty good. Second was just pointless for the most part, aside from the tag match with Foley/Edge/Lita vs Dreamer/Funk/Beulah, which I enjoyed quite a bit. One thing I did love was the crowd booing Mysterio. I absolutely can't stand the garbage that is WWE Mysterio, so I loved when they booed the 619.

I'm also going to subject myself to the 2006 December to Dismember, which I have heard is completely atrocious.

I watched it, but barely made it back alive. Wow, was that dreadful. On the bright side, I didn't pay for it. I can't believe what they made that brand into, and I can see why Heyman was miserable.

Since the Packers lost all I've watched is wrestling lol. Baseball season can't start soon enough

If you're a fan of old wrestling I got a couple of great sites I'd like to share with you. I got a couple invites left to some sites but I don't know the exact rules of this board so it would be better if you or anyone else interested would private message me.
