CM Punk; WWE Has Me Hooked Again (2012 Official Pro Wrestling Thread)

BrewCrewForever

Seriously... my girlfriend flew in from California to visit me a month ago. During that time, I watched Wrestlemania VI AND XVII. Granted, we also watched some Mad Men and other stuff... but still. If she can watch crap like Being Human, I can certainly watch wrestling.

I had a car accident in October so I have been off of work since then, and aside from watching lots of NFL Network, MLB Network, and Storm Chasers on Netflix, I have watched a lot of wrestling. Granted, it's pretty weak most times, but it can be fun to complain about.

Does no one remember Rikishi? He was massively over because he was a dancing fat man. Crowd was quiet because they were trying to figure out what they were seeing. I bet you there are tons of Funkasaurus signs in the crowd this week on Raw. This gimmick will get over huge.
I could see the WWE putting more than a handful of potted plants in the crowd on Monday with Funkasurus signs to try to get it over via the follow-the-herd/"trending" theory.

Congratulations to all who post in this thread. I haven't watched any professional wrestling on TV since I was forced to watch an episode of RAW in the early 2000's when I was invited to his house for a Monday Night Football game, and he kept turning over to RAW during commercial breaks (and sometimes forgot to turn back). When I was a kid, I used to watch wrestling on Saturday mornings, but wouldn't say I was "Into It" at all.

Anyway, despite all of this, for some inexplicible reason, this thread is one of my must-read on bf.net right now. I only have the faintest idea of what's being discussed, but for some reason, I find it fascinating. Keep up the good work. If I ever actually watch wrestling at some point, maybe I'll actually post something to move the discussion forward.

Yeah, my wife continuously asks me "why do you watch that? all you do is complain about it and talk about how it's lame". But I just have no reasoning really, it's about the only thing I do in my life that is just kinda silly and whatnot. But it just pulls me in. It's fun to watch, it's funny at times, sometimes it has some really cool moments and you just want to see whats going to happen with the characters. Glad you're enjoying the discussion http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

The "trending worldwide" garbage is really old. Monday's show was like an entire show devoted to getting something to trend, regardless to whether the tweets about it were positive or not.

Yeah, I know social media is important these days, but honestly, do they need to talk about "trending worldwide" on virtually everything during the entire show? I fast forward through a lot of stuff these days and I still get HIGHLY annoyed with it every week.

I'm also really sick of Michael Cole. I miss the days of JR and King. With King being the funny heel supporter, and JR always freaking out when the faces got screwed over. Good times. I was watching the History of the WWE Championship DVD and it just reminded me of how much better the commentary used to be. JR and King, JR and Heyman, Foley and JBL were both good too. McMahon was good in his day as well. I just can't stand to listen to Cole sometimes.

Even in the more practical sense of what a commentator is supposed to do, which is get the storylines over. He kills matches, buries guys, etc. JR was the best at getting the point across, at making things feel important, and stuff like that. I'd take Tony Schiavone over Cole. Lawler definitely should be a heel. He was so good at it when he was and when he cared about the show.

Exactly, not sure how Vince just stands idly by while Cole buries people. JR was phenomenal at capturing moments, while Cole is horrible at it. King is also boring when he's not a heel. He doesn't bring much to the table when he isn't. I was really hoping JR would be back for good the last time they brought him back. Cole can go suck on Smackdown if they want him to. JR needs to be on Raw and on PPVs.

Yeah, I agree. It makes no sense for Cole to be the heel as the lead announcer. King should be pro-heel, with JR as pro-face. Then Smackdown should be Mathews pro-face and then either Booker T as pro-heel, or Booker T neutral, and bring in someone else as pro-heel. Having Cole be the lead on both shows, burying all of the faces makes absolutely no sense. I used to enjoy the arguments between JR and King. It was entertaining to listen to.

Booker T is a disaster. It's the worst when he says stuff like "he's just doing what he needs to do to win" about a heel instead of ripping him. Then you basically have two pro-heel commentators, and thus you have no heels getting any heat... which is basically the entire roster of heels. The only heel that's over in the whole company is probably Henry.

I guess, but he faced Hawkins and Kidd, guys who haven't been on TV in months. I'd like to see him actually have a longer match with someone the audience has actually seen recently. The majority of the people watching probably didn't even know who Hawkins and Kidd were. On Smackdown he was out there a total of about 2 minutes. Came out, did his dumb dance, did two moves, won, did another dance and left. He can win in a squash, but it should last longer than that.

Johnny Ace is awesome. The promos tonight by him and Punk at the end were awesome.

Yep--He was twitching like Canseco, feeling the rage building up inside. . .He will NOT be disrespected!

If they make a Laurinaitis bobblehead, I'm first in line to get one. He is my new favorite guy to watch.

We still need to figure out who he is texting--and did they ever resolve the anonymous Raw GM angle?

Can't believe I'm up late contemplating this junk. . .

I think they are just ignoring the anonymous GM.

And don't feel bad, I am listening to a live post-Raw radio show. I was marking out at the end of tonight's show, and I am a very cynical viewer, typically. Other than the pretty lame middle of the show, it was a good show. The mic work by Ziggler at the beginning was great. I am thinking he might win the title at Rumble, or come really close. He's going to be a champ soon.

I would think Jericho being teamed up with Ace and screwing Punk makes sense to actually start a feud. It seemed like they hinted at them being aligned tonight. Makes far more sense than some crap about a catchphrase. Jericho is going to end up being part-time, anyhow, so there's no real need to have a belt involved if they choose not to. It just makes it completely predictable if the belt is on the line.

It'll also be completely predictable if Punk loses the title to Ziggler at the Rumble by getting screwed by Laurinaitis. Don't see it happening. I guess that doesn't mean he won't drop it at some other point, but I doubt it happens. The match will mean more if it's for the title. MITB is rumored to be back at Mania this year, so Ziggler will probably win that and cash in to become champion.
