Drowning my sorrows inna a Two Beers Imperial dark IPA
This is one night I was actually tempted to drink a Brewdog The End of History. Of course, it probably would have been more horrendous than the result of the game.

Any of you Wisconsin beer folks know of any Wisconsin seasonals that are worth picking up? I'll be in Wisconsin for a few days soon and I'm hoping to go on a bit of a craft beer bender. I'm already excited to try NG's Black Top.

They have Fixed Gear in 6-packs now. So sweet. I had it a few weeks back at Oblio's on tap. Good tap list at that place. Looking forward to stopping there after Hops n Props in March.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Leinie's Big Eddy Russian Imperial Stout (not technically a seasonal, but I think they just released another batch).

Good to hear. Fixed Gear (red ale iirc) is just one more solid local offering. I'm no expert on craft brewing, but it seems like WI has a pretty decent scene at this point.

Yup, between Black Top, Fixed Gear, and Moon Man I think we have some pretty decent hoppy beers. Capital makes good lagers. We only get a seasonal hefe from New Glarus. What this state lacks is a brewery that can make decent Belgian style beer. The Vintage is good but they don't distribute.

My parents drove down to NC for Thanksgiving this year and brought a whole bucket of goodies. New Glarus Laughing Fox, FFF Alpha King, FFF RobBruce, NG Black Top, NG Belgian Red, NG Moon Man, Ambergeddon.

Black Top is one of the better BIPA's I've had, but I'm not completely sold on the style yet.

Laughing Fox is outstanding, I always thought Kristal Wheats were pretty much supposed to suck.

Moon Man is Moon Man.

I had been wanting to try Founders' Backwoods Bastard for some time now, and I finally found a bottle down here. I just can't turn down anything with an axed bearded man on the front.

No beer talk lately?

My parents brought us about 35 Wisconsin/FFF beers this Thanksgiving. Sadly, they're almost all gone by now.

I have to give another bit of love to Laughing Fox. That has to be one of the best low 4% alcohol beers I've ever had. I could honestly drink a dozen; it has that classic banana-clove spice of a bigger wheat with a lovely tart bite at the end. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't think I can name a brewery better at session ales than New Glarus.

Thing that is bugging me: Limited Imperial Stout releases. Foothills is releasing 1,800 bottles of Sexual Chocolate some time next week. I like their beer. People's Porter was very well done. Their IPA was pretty good. But there is no way it's worth it for me to wait in line and pay $15 for a 750 ml bottle of Impy Stout when I can get Founders Breakfast Stout and Bells' Expedition Stout for ~$3 per bottle at local bottle shops. Mother Earth is another brewery down here that I have really high hopes for (their Kolsch and Belgian White are both very good), but honestly I have no interest in paying $15.99 for their Silent Night Imperial Stout. End rant.

There's been an interesting little back and forth between BA and Sam Caligione over the last few weeks. BA thread names DFH as over-rated, Caligione responds telling them they just don't like them because they're a big Microbrewery. While I think there are a lot of people out there who don't like breweries like Sam Adams, Sierra Nevada, DFH, New Belgium, etc. due to their size, I can honestly say I don't much care for DFH because I don't think their experimental beers are very good (although I really like Indian Brown Ale and 60-Min).

I'll be back in Wisconsin this March, and while I'm not looking forward to March in Madison, I have to say I'm excited to enjoy some of my old favorite brews. Mmm...Ambergeddon.

Has anyone ever attended "Dark Lord Day" at Three Floyds Brewery? If so, thoughts, info, etc would be appreciated.

My friends and I are currently writing a travel/beer book for all of the Breweries in Wisconsin. Its been fun drinking and writing so far. Hopefully someone will want to buy it when we are finished http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I typed up a response, but lost it going to preview, so I'm just going to post the link to the write-up I did after I went, see here

Looking back, totally worth it, I would have liked if I had someone to go with and to spend more time there.
If you do go, make sure you find out their policy if they're doing golden tickets, they went on sale the year I went on St. Patricks day afternoon - boo!
And if you do go and get some bottles, we could meet up at a Brewer game tailgate and share some, I still have one 2010 bottle remaining, then we could swap some war stories about beer.

Recently visited Terrapin Brewery in Athens, GA. They have a Lakefront-esque "Tour" that they give 3 days a week, which is mostly just standing around a big open area in the brewery drinking their beer. I tried their very good Moo-Hoo chocolate stout and an exceedingly competent Double/Dubbel Feature belgian-style. I find their more widely available beers (Rye, Golden Ale, etc.) to be pedestrian, so it was nice to find out that they have some tasty seasonals.

I wasn't able to score Dark Lord tickets. My sadness turned to fury when I checked out Stub Hub and saw that people were selling tickets for $500. This is a charity event!

P.S. - Case sensitive CAPTCHA for the sale of tickets is ridiculous.

Diamond Knot Brewing had something really interesting last week, an IPL(ager) hopped longer than a regular lager, cloudy and complex.

Your services are needed in the Vacation Destinations thread! People are asking about Seattle & Portland. I did my best on Portland, but I'm guessing you can fill in the gaps.

Also, you talking about such easy access to Diamond Knot makes me envious. I'm actually pretty happy with New Glarus's Hearty Hop IPA (just tried it). But, you know, NW hops & hoppy beers. Yeah.
