I'll be there volunteering. Not sure if I'm hauling kegs or checking ids this year though. Hopefully the latter as I'm recovering from rotator cuff tendinitis.

BA - You will have a blast. A few tips...

-Pace yourself. It's a long day.

- Be sure to eat something before or at the fest.

- Bring water or Gatorade

- Make a pretzel necklace

- Bring sunscreen. There is shade, but the tents are in the open

- Bring rain gear if there is any chance of rain. Nothing worse then spending the day soaked

- Don't buy tickets for over face value. There are always folks selling them at the fest

I wish we had a brewery in the state that made decent Belgian style beers. No, I am not talking about the fruity stuff.
Give Ale Asylum (Madison) a try if you haven't yet.
I was unimpressed with their Dubbel and most of the rest of their stuff is not readily available. I will give them a try though.

The Great Taste of the Midwest should be on every craft beer lovers bucket list. What a fantastic time! I did really well pacing and enjoying myself until it started raining with about an hour left. Then things just went downhill as I raced to sample as much as I could. I had a lot of fantastic, but alas not readily available in Wisconsin, beer. I won't go on about the rare stuff I tried, because it's almost pointless since it's so hard to find most of the stuff. But New Glarus had their two upcoming beers, a crystal weizen and a black IPA. The black IPA will be very, very satisfying for hop heads. Phenomenal. The crystal weizen was also very nice.

I couldn't believe last weekend that I found some Lakefront Brewery beer here at my local beer imporium of Kingman, AZ!

It was just the Pumpkin Ale but it was astounding to me that they had something from them. I guess they will order something from pretty much anywhere if you request it/order it so somebody else must have ordered it or something.

I enjoyed the flavor but it was pretty much like drinking a liquid pumpkin pie with a bit of an alcohol kick.

That's a neat graphic, Logan. It would be more interested if it made the area of the circles proportional to the quantity of beers sold from those brands. Then we could all enjoy the giant blob of macro pale lagers.

Look down a little further at the rectangle chart. I originally came across this stuff on Madison Beer Review.

i need some brewerfan.net help. my friends and i are having a beer and chili contest next weekend. i got the chili taken care of but i need to get a 6 pack of beer that compliments my chili. i really don't do micro's only miller lite, what would you beer connoisseur recommend. It would have to be something that i can find in milwaukee and would work with a turkey chili.

Whatever you choose, I'd consider adding a bottle of it to the chili. May help match the flavors. Everyone has different tastes, but I prefer to go with a milder beer with chili. The heat and spices tend to dominate your taste buds, so subtle flavors in beer can be missed. I usually go with a good lager. Anyone have thoughts on Saporro for this?

Lager's definitely a good idea -- can't go wrong there, really, as long as the lager is good.

Since I'm a bit of a hop-head, I was thinking something like New Glarus Moon Man. But then again, I might pair Moon Man with Froot Loops or donuts... I love that beer. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I think one of the local Octoberfest beers would be a good choice. New Glarus Octoberfest or Riverwest Stein would be good choices.

On another note I really like Black Top. Hoppy with a little roastiness, sort of a berry flavor. I had Laughing Fox as well but didn't like it as much.

Blacktop is excellent. I still think the best example I've ever had is from Boundary Bay, but I'd love to put that to the test in a head-to-head tasting.

I'm thankful for a lot of things in my life, not the least of which is having the good fortune to live in the midst of a beer renaissance in the US in the early 21st century. We are lucky. Very, very lucky. It's never been a better time to be a beer lover.

Blacktop is the current go to beer in our house. Once we can't find it anymore I suspect we will go back to Moon Man.

I have also had the Vintage Wee Heavy. Not really my style but my wife really liked it.
