2007 Vent Thread, Part 2

Patrick425

I have been avoiding this thread because it's hard to complain when your team is playing well and is in first place. I didn't have time to go through all 20 pages of posts, so sorry if this has already been mentioned but...I really hate Sunday and other day game line ups. It's not just a Yost thing, it seems like all managers in the past 20 years for the Brewers do this (although, I notice Garner pretty much had is A lineup in there today vs. the Brewers). I also know that other managers for other teams do this too.

I can understand givin a player a rest day once in a while, but do you have to do 3 or 4 in one game!!??! Today..Weeks, Hall, and Estrada all out. Uuuuggghhh! I hate that. To me, it's just like giving up your best chance to win just so a guy can get a day off. Again, do they all have to get a day off on the same day??! I know, I know...they won. But still, it drives me nuts.

I want Dave Bush to start pitching like he's capable of.

It was kinda funny when the camera kept panning to him in the dugout though after he left Saturday's game. He looked so pissed off. As he should.

it was also funny when that rookie Astro guy they won't stop talking about knew he was on camera and did this really creepy smile

What is with Yost's obsession with the "fake bunt-pull the bat back and slash" play? We could have had Graffy on 2nd with 1 out and we get squat. Bush should have just concentrated on laying down a good bunt.

The double steal was asinine too. Taking the bat out of Hall's hands with a guy on 3rd? You have got to be kidding me. How is he supposed to get hot at the plate if you take away his opportunities?

Yosted again.....he always succeeds in making the easy decisions look hard.

I really think Yost has no confidence in Spurling, and he needs to go. He might have good stuff but he doesn't right now. Estrada didn't appear all that interested tonight...I wonder if that is why he seems to not have the best reputation. Tough one to lose but hopefully we come back strong tomorrow night. Feel bad for Bush...pitched great tonight....for six. Not sure if Bush would get pulled but if we could get someone to consistently pitch the 7th for us...

AJ, do you have the stats on Spurling for inherited runners? His ERA is better than I thought it would be. It just seems that Yost might be waiting longer to pull the trigger due to a lack of confidence. I could be wrong. I'm not venting here, just wondering.

How you blame a loss on Spurling when we score 2 runs and Bush gives up 4 by himself is beyond me. You want to blame tonights loss on someone blame it on the offense, not Yost or the pitching. If we can't score 5 we are going to have a problem winning on a regular basis.

shelmark, I don't know the inherited runners Stats. Spurling's ERA was @ 4.95 going into the game, but after 2 scoreless innings tonight, it went down into the 3's ... shows what "small sample size is all about" (and helps me not be so concerned about Rickie Weeks' sub .240 BA!)

I like the idea of trying to take advantage of the corner infielders charging for the bunt but why does the runner at first have t take off as well? A pitcher is going to swing and miss often enough to make that a terrible decision. Unfortunately, since Yost had success with that play before, it's going to take at least a couple of time of it blowing in his face before he reconsiders.

I looked Spurling has only 1 IR and that guy scored.. His ERA is only 3.18, but his WHIP is 2.65!!. He only has one walk, so he is pretty much out there pitching batting practice -- He has obviously been the beneficiary of LOBs.

His last 2 outings have been "better".

Bush was gassed, Spurling should have come in earlier, or perhaps even Tbow. There are lots of things to point Ned's way after this game.

doesn't it seem like Bush is the pitcher that Yost always leaves in for too long?

In a word.... yes

Are you serious!? Wow! He was pitching a 2 hitter in the 7th inning. He gave up a double and then a broken-bat jam job that bloomed into deep first-base/shallow right field. Then he showed he still had great stuff in getting the next 2 hitters. He was one strike away from getting out of the 7th and turning it over to TBow and CoCo and he made a mistake to Bautista.

Big deal. It happens.

Did you suggest after the 3rd hit of the game that Yost turns to Spurling? You have got to be flippin joking.

Bush was gassed

Oh yea. He looked gassed. Absolutely gasping for air. Breathing heavily. It's amazing he was even able to throw the ball at all. He'd thrown 140 pitches and had baserunners on base all night. He had control problems all night. He really labored through 6 innings. It was so aparrent to everyone that he was gassed. It's unfortunate that Yost is so stupid and didn't notice like the rest of us. We all should be managers. Managers by committee. Each member of BF.net take an inning for the rest of the year. Obviously we would be better for it. We couldn't be much worse.

OK I'm done....but in all seriousness...Bush was not gassed. He didn't look gassed. He didnt pitch like he was gassed. He had thrown 78 pitches through 6 2-hit innings. He gave up a double and a broken bat fist job to deep first/shallow right. He bounced back with great stuff to the next 2 hitters and one one pitch away from turning it over to TBow and CoCo. To say he was "gassed" as though it was obvious to everyone is just silly.

Are you serious!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
mkerollins, I edited the excessive punctuation from your post above.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.
