What's bugging you? (2007)

Do those trucks actually carry anything, or do they just drive around all day? If they just drive around all day, what does the driver get paid? Seems like kind of a sweet job.

They don't carry anything. The obstruct your view of the road, make congestion worse on already congested roads, and pollute the environment even further. WIN WIN!

Watching the LLWS and seeing the stupid Frosted Flakes commercial where the two guys are playing tennis with baseball bats every single commercial break.

haha, i was going to post that this morning. I thought it was cool the first time I saw it. Now I freaking hate it and its seriously on every commercial break like you said

The one I see in Madison is never even driving. The guy just sits at a park all the time.

I have seen the one advertising diamonds a few times driving down through the campus and university ave.

But that's it

It's probably the same guy. On the west side, he just sits at Elver Park.

I saw one of those trucks parked illegally on campus last week - I forget the location but it was high profile, and the truck was parked completely in a yellow curb zone. At first I thought, hmm, stupid; but I suppose they might consider it worth the cost of a parking violation to get the enhanced visibility.

I also have forgotten what the truck was advertising. Hah! Hawing 1, advertiser 0!

The month of September bugs me at work. With the new academic year about to begin, I've had to hire a new set of student employees (replacing five out of nine, actually, which could be worse but could be better) and none of them was available for training until the first week of classes. So I have to spend this week on their orientation and employment forms (the forms are necessary for the returning employees too) while somehow also providing regular services to the public.

It's ultimately time well spent, and I do enjoy getting to know my new staff. But the training itself is very tiring - explaining everything you do, for hours on end, including some things that aren't immediately happening but the employees have to be prepared for them (like emergency procedures) - and it really takes a toll on my voice, which has never been very strong to begin with. It's going to be a lemon ice kind of week.

The training burden would often be less from year to year, but I'm limited to hiring students whose financial aid includes work-study funding (since the feds pay half their wages and my puny budget thus goes twice as far). I had to say 'no thanks' to some employees from last year because their financial situation improved enough so they weren't eligible for the award anymore.

  • 2 weeks later...

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published the Al's Runs results in this morning's paper. Only they list the Top 100 overall and not the Top 50 or 100 by gender. So the top 92 men and only top 8 women were listed.

I guess if you're a female athlete in Milwaukee you're not worth as much.
