What's bugging you? (2007)

The fire I posted pictures of was started by someone flicking a cigarette butt into dry grass...that fire is now within 7 miles of my friend's house, and moving his way.

How can people be so incomprehensibly stupid?

On that note, flicking cigarette butts ticks me off period. Why is "our" responsibility to clean up someone else's mess? I used to live on the bottom floor of an apartment building and everyone who would walk up to the buzzer would flick their butts in landscaping for my apartment, used to drive me nuts. It ticks me off on the highway too, but littering in any capacity annoys me there. Having the median and ditches on the side of the highway so littered with garbage that it looks like a dump doesn't do much for me.

tonight at softball, one of my teammates smoked a double, which was pretty cool because he's not really much of a hitter (so it would be like if I hit a double) and then the catcher asked the second base umpire if he touched first. I was coaching first and he pretty much stepped right on the top of the bag. on top of that, i could tell that the second base ump had absolutely no idea, but when they through back to first, he called him out. the guy obviously just wanted to take part in a play that was out of the ordinary. it was absurd and i let him hear about it. in the long run, not that big of a deal as we still lost 23-10 but man oh man did that bug me.

Milwaukee public transportation to and from Brewer games.

Buses and Cabs and shuttles should have their own lane leaving from Miller Park.

Encouraging public transportation by having people have to sit and wait for 40 minutes to get out of the parking lot isn't encouraging anything.

My new driveway approach, caused by road construction, bugs me.

1. I have to walk 300 feet to the closest neighbor to get to my car. It'll be that way through the weekend.

2. Although it's a net improvement (the slope is a bit better), it does cover nearly 20 feet of concrete with asphalt to get that slope.

3. I'm constantly feeling that I have to supervise. For instance, I discussed with the highway department honcho which areas would be backfilled with dirt and which areas would be backfilled with gravel. Yesterday, the dirt came; I swear the dirt's where the gravel's supposed to go.

The silver lining is that this work is being paid for by my friends and neighbors (taxpayers).

This whole road construction deal has bugged me, too. The road was entirely gravel for over two weeks, however, traffic ignored that. People would go 50 MPH (too fast); other drivers thought 50 MPH wasn't fast enough and would pass.

And when I'd go to get my mail, it was guaranteed that someone would fly by, blow dust all over me, and cause me to need a shower.

The triple post is testament to how much the road work bugs casey.

We had our turn (I hope our only one) with road work outside the house in 2003. We lived on an intersection (right by BuckyTuba and his tuba comrades) and the "side street" was going to be out of commission for a few months. Fine, the street really needed it, we knew the inconvenience would be worth it.

The hassle increased when they discovered a little problem with the cross street (our "front street") in the intersection. So they dug that up too, only in front of our house. The hassle peaked when they connected something incorrectly and we had a small (few inches) backup of water in our basement. However, the contractor reimbursed us for all expenses we incurred cleaning that up.

The end result was a much improved street surface, a curb (again!), and a sewer system that was newer than the 1910s. But it was not at all relaxing to come home from work and find disruption and (depending on the weather) either dust or mud every night.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

Just so people know FTJ and hawing aren't crazy, I deleted the posts. This was the first time since the migration that I've seen Yuku slow to ezBoard speed.

Actually, another silver lining to the road work is that this is a 'reconstruction' over the old road. It's more than a simple resurfacing because a new road bed was placed over the old asphalt.

Full reconstruction in this area often results in finding peat. That can add weeks of time and hundreds of thousands of dollars to the cost. Because of peat, one nearby project had to be extended an extra year in order to budget the money.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Oh man, I'm having a moment. I'm burning my weekend dealing with work issues because someone else dropped the ball and cannot be reached. Evidently, a 3rd party promised some things to one of my clients, then let things slide, so now I'm busting it, trying to fill in the blanks... NOW.

I am probably in the minority on this, but it bugs me when at concerts, miller park on autograph days, etc. people run whenever the doors are open, no matter where they were in line. If I got there 2 hours before you, I'd appreciate you not trying to push me out of the way so you can run past me and get front row, be first in the autograph line or whatever. I personally just think it is stupid, but like I said I'm probably in the minority on that.

I work for a company that makes sensors for factory automation doing order entry/inside sales/etc. and it bugs the crap out of me when people call in and don't get to the point as to why they're calling. It'll go like this:

Me: Thank you for calling, how can I help you.

Them: Yeah <2 second pause> I've got a sensor here. <5 second pause> It's black. (note: all of our sensors are black)

Me: Ok...

Them: I think it's a, uh, er, umm, my part number is AX-4245.

Me: Do you know what my part number would be?

Them: Well, yeah it's a 94832.

Me: Ok...and what were you looking for with this part?

Them: I need to know how many you have.

Me: Looks like we have 10 in stock

This goes on and on for like 10 minutes where they ask about 15 questions before I realize they actually wanted to place an order, and if they just would have said, "Hi, I'm calling from whatever company and I want to place an order, but I need to make sure you have the part in stock." it's a 2 minute call.

So if you're calling in, just say what you want.

crappy cars with giant spoilers.

I second that. Or the cars with giant airplane looking tails. Your Chevy Cavalier does not move that fast where you would need a spoiler.

I third you, and raise you a $200 car with a $5,000 system. Fix the exhaust system before you buy that next amp, so that I don't choke on your vehicle's sweet, sweet nectar of carbon monoxide/dioxide.

Or the sweet cars that have exhaust work and sound like a kitchen appliance, the nice high pitched whine. I think they are trying to make it sound tough like a Harley, but I am not too intimidated when I hear a blender driving down the road.

People at my work who know absoultely nothing about the Brewers but act like they do. I'm definitely not a know-it-all when it comes to the Brewers or baseball in general, but some of these people have no clue. Some things I've heard in the past couple months (paraphrased):

"Losing 3 out of 4 to the Pirates is a complete joke. It is absoultely pathetic to lose a series to a terrible team like that. If they can't win a series against the Pirates how are they going to beat actual good teams?"

"I'm not surprised at all Sheets is hurt. Does he even like playing baseball? He's on the DL like three times every year."

(When the Dunn trade rumors were circulating) " What is Dunn, like a lifetime .200 hitter? Do we really need to add someone who can't even make contact?"

I understand everyone will have their own opinions and not everyone can be optimistic, but honestly if you're going to complain about everything the team does, don't even watch them anymore. Luckily I haven't worked since Saturday so I haven't yet heard them declare the season over after Sunday's loss.
