What's bugging you? (2008)

Jimbo
Retail stores who leave their staff hanging like that bug me. Where was ANYBODY?

Nearly the identical thing happened to me at a Walgreens in suburban chicago last weekend. All I wanted was two Gatorades for hangover relief and I end up waiting in line for 10 minutes as a nightmare of a pricecheck situation unfolds -- no one manning cosmetics and the Photo counter had a line of people. When I couldn't take it anymore, I put a $5 bill on the counter, told the clerk I didn't want any change, and left with my beverage product.

Some parking lots have their spots at an angle to maximize efficiency. Some people like to ruin this model by driving the wrong way down these one-way parking lanes and turning 300 degrees to park in spots that people coming from the proper direction had their eye on. Where's the order?
I end up doing this whenever I go to a Menards. For some reason, the stalls are always pointed toward the store in the row of the main entrance.

I just noticed that Nickleback is playing at the Bradley Center in March. Like most people on this board, I can not stand Nickleback. However, my wife loves them and her birthday is on Dec 18th...and the tickets go on sale Dec 13th...and I know she would really love this gift...and she has always been a good sport about going to sporting events with me and to other events that were not necessarily fun for her....but yikes...I'm not sure I can do this. It would be bad enough if it was some private concert. I could stomach my way through it, but to also be surrounded by 1000's of people who for some inexplicable reason like Nickleback...I don't know.

My wife knows I'm not a big fan of Nickleback, but I don't think she really realizes how much I hate them. I'm not sure how I can take her and disguise my pain enough so that it does not ruin her good time. Maybe I can just volunteer to go on beer runs during the concert.

so you bring your ipod and earbuds and listen to what you want.

what's bugging me is 102-degree fevers and chest pains associated with coughing/pneumonia-ish symptoms.

Props to FTJ for really taking one for the team that night.

A lot of things are bugging me lately. The latest? Ocasionally Yahoo will have on their home page something like "25 most family friendly cities" or "25 Healthiest cities", etc. Then they have a link that states "see rankings". You click on the link and it does not take you to a list of rankings, it's just an article like this:

Not only does that page not have any rankings, it offers no clue as to who did the supposed study. It has a quote, and one might surmise that one of the two organizations that the guy's affiliated with might have something to do with this, but then again, maybe not.

On another note, when going to a Milwaukee area restaurant last night, I parked in a handicapped spot for the benefit of my passenger. As we were exiting the car, a woman called out to someone in a truck asking if he'd be in soon. He yelled back, "I'm watching the disabled people!"

I have to think of something to do if this ever happens again. I haven't done a cartwheel in years, but I think I could remaster the skill. At least I'd be ready to provide some entertainment the next time someone wants to "watch the disabled people."

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'm watching Willy Wonka (Old version) last night with my 10 year old son. Every other commercial break they show an ExtenZe commercial. Not sure if anyone has ever seen these, but they are not nearly as subtle as Viagra or Cialis (if those are considered subtle). It's basically a guy and his wife talking about how much larger it makes him and how much more fun love making is. Who are the geniuses that think it's ok to run this commercial during Willy Wonka? It was uncomfortable enough with a 10 year old, I can only imagine parents watching it with slightly younger kids.

Also, AMC running commercial every 8 minutes is ridiculous. I swear there is more commercial time than actual movie time.

This is bugging the crap out of me. I'm in the process of applying for jobs, my first real full time, grown up, adult, big boy job. I've applied for four jobs. Three I have never heard anything from and one which seemed to be looking rather promising. This job is the one that I would chose over the rest if offered. So I apply and about two weeks later call to inquire when they would be doing interviews. After calling two days in a row during business hours and getting a voicemail, I get a call back from the person saying that they will be doing interviews next week and someone should call me soon. Well another two weeks go by and I don't hear anything. I go to my inside source on the job and he tells me that they are currently hiring a more important position and they will probably get to mine after the first of the year. Four days later I get a letter in the mail from the company thanking me for my interest in the position and that they have offered the job to someone else and they accepted it. Yes, I'm disappointed that I didn't get the job but I'm mad that I was basically lied to by someone. Either my inside source or the person hiring flat out lied to me. The lack of communication by these people is getting quite frustrating. If I'm not going to be a candidate for the job please tell me so that I can look somewhere else.

I always assume they are jerking me around and being less than transparent until I have a firm job offer. Throw your resume around and never bank on anything until it's in writing. Even when I've been certain I was getting a job, I still scheduled interviews with other companies until the offer was made and I accepted.

I graduated a week ago and I'm trying to find a job right now. My degree is in journalism and I've been applying and not hearing anything back. The first meeting I've been able to set up is in Madison, and that would be working in PR/media relations. It's kind of frustrating. I haven't heard anything back from anyone yet, so I'm feeling some of the pain that you're feeling.

So, we were supposed to drive from Madison to Kenosha for Christmas Eve tonight. There's more snow (falling as well as on the roads) than we want to contend with driving through, so the S.O. has just called his brother's house to report that we are going to stay home this year.

He's still on the phone and I can tell from his side of the conversation that they think we are wimps for not wanting to drive. This really bugs me, because everyone else invited to this gathering lives in Kenosha and of course won't have difficulty getting there. I'd like them to respect our judgment regarding the road conditions between here and there, and what conditions we're willing to drive through. I only have today and Thursday off, we're due in Waunakee tomorrow, and neither of us would like to spend today white knuckled in the car, hoping we don't wind up in a ditch (or worse).

Additionally, this would be the first time in almost 20 years that we've bowed out of making the trip. (It was cancelled one year due to illness on the Kenosha side of the family.) We travel more every Christmas than anyone on either side of our extended families. Only once (the above-mentioned cancellation) have we had Christmas Eve and Christmas morning to ourselves as a couple.

I think once every couple of decades, when the roads are in poor condition, we should be able to pass without being made to feel guilty about it. Perhaps the S.O.'s family should feel fortunate that the weather has been decent as many December 24s as it has.

(I hope someone here agrees with me.)

I hear ya hawing. Well, at least not quite on the guilt part...but we were forced to make the same decision this morning. We live in Jefferson County, and the wife's family lives way up near Antigo (actually in a little town called White Lake, just north of the Menominee Reservation). We decided there was no way we were going to risk driving through this crummy weather for four hours. We should be able to go up this weekend, at least.

That aside, I wouldn't worry too much about what your relatives think. Life's too short to worry about stuff like that. You made the choice that was best for you guys in the situation.

Thanks, guys (and ewizabeff). Of course, the snow has now ended in Madison and the sun is trying to come out. Still, given the wind, the forecast for single digit temps tonight and the likely (lack of) visibility out of town, I think we made a reasonable call.

The family kind of has to find another day to meet with us...if they want their gifts. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

That sound super frusturating hawing. Sorry you have to deal with it. Families can be kooky around the holidays. My aunt called her granddaughter to tell her she just saw Santa and he would be going to her house soon. (She still tells me this and I'm 26.) And her daughter flipped out on her, making her cry, because she decided she doesn't want her 3 or 4year old to think he's real. Was that necessary to do right now?

Parity - equality, as in amount, status, or character.

Parody - a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature or writing.

Maybe it isn't really bugging me, because it's pretty funny to read....but misusing these two words probably isn't the best plan.

Woot.com

I knew that the Random Crap was coming at midnight, so I stayed up, continually clicked refresh at 11:59 until it changed. Immediately after it changed I clicked "I want one". Of course, they're lame servers crashed immediately.

I hope Santa gave them a new server system for Christmas.

GPS

Last week was the second opprotunity I had to ride in a car with one of those gizmos, and each time I wished I had a sledgehammer.

It's a nifty tool to have, but people need to realize it has its limitations. A half-way intelligent person who can interpret a map would make it a wash.

-We wanted to visit "The Pier" in St. Petersburg and my brother drives us to the end of the road in St. Pete's Beach, fifteen miles away.

-We needed to get to the Tampa airport and he had us halfway to the St. Petersburg airport before I spoke up and told him how stupid he is.
