What's bugging you? (2008)

Jimbo
...the person in front of me decides he wants to get up and stand for about 10 minutes just looking around aimlessly for no reason at all. It would be odd to ask him to sit down since the game has not started yet. However, at the same time I don't really want to sit and stare at his backside. Don't people have any awareness of their surroundings at all?
A similar bug is when multiple people decide to stand and have a conversation directly in front of the seat you're in. Like the example patrick425 cites, they aren't truly out-of-place since the game hasn't begun, but your choices are to either move temporarily or be forced to observe the conversation. Since this has happened to us a few times this season, I wonder if section 217 is the key.

This reminds me of an odd bus ride I took in Madison once. Rider A had a window seat. I, Rider B, took the seat adjacent to hers. Rider C boarded later and sat across the aisle from me. Riders A and C are friends and apparently hadn't seen each other in some time, as they launched into an animated conversation that I was physically in the middle of, but otherwise not part of.

The high point for me was when Rider A asked to see Rider C's new wedding ring, which she had to kind of thrust in my face to get it close enough for Rider A to see - with not even so much as an "excuse me."

So I'm going to posit that many people have little to no awareness of their surroundings at all.

I've had that happen before, and I just offer to take either one of their seats so they can sit next to each other.

You know what I hate? When a phone number has letters in it, but you're calling from a smart phone where the number keys are shared with a qwerty pad which doesn't show the mappings to ABC, DEF, GHI, etc; so you have no idea what 1-800-CUBS-DIE needs to translate to on the number pad. Someone needs to fix that.

I have gotten this email numerous times between yesterday and today claiming that if the $700 billion bailout for AIG (which is just the first mistake in the email since the $700 billion is a buy up of mortgage loans from banks not specifically for AIG only) were spread over the 200 million tax payers we would each get $425,000 before taxes. The email goes on now referencing the $85 Million for AIG.

People please learn math. $700,000,000,000 divided by 200,000,000 people is $3,500 a person. $85,000,000,000 divided by 200,000,000 people is $425 per person. No where near this ridiculous $425,000 per person referenced in the email that is flying all over the internet.

I guess I shouldn't expect people that can't do a simple math division to understand financial markets and implications but c'mon do people really think this even sounds reasonable.

The most annoying thing at my job is when I greet someone when they come in and don't say anything back or just completely ignore me. Or you get there other type of person who where I'll say Hi how are you doing and in the middle of it I'll get a real rude "im just looking" response. Im seriously gonna slap one of these customers one day.

It's really annoying to be watching the playoffs with my 10 year old when they keep playing the "porno" commercial. It's bad enough to have to sit through all the ED medication commercials, now this? Yeah, my son is getting older and starting to understand these things a little, but it's not something I really need thrown in our faces as we are trying to watch a game together. At least it appears that I'm not the only one bothered by it:

I watching The Family Feud yesterday and it was at fast answers/final round thing where one person has to answer 5 questions in a certian amount of time......

The question was "Name a bird that most resembles people walking" Ok she could have said Duck, Flamingo, Pigeon

Her answer "Dolphin" I didn't know what to think after she said that................

We got home from grocery shopping tonight to find Cigar/Cell Phone Guy (see reply 1596 earlier in this thread) sitting on our retaining wall again, smoking another cigar and yakking on his phone again. I asked why he was sitting on our property, and he got mad at me for interrupting his call. (After asking, I did add "sorry to interrupt your call.")

After all, he just lives up the street and had to make this phone call! Then he stomped off.

So, apparently he is a neighbor. I suspect his family has shooed him off their actual property if he's going to smoke and yak, but I don't think that means our yard should have to be his smoking/yakking grounds. If he were pacing on the sidewalk, I'd acknowledge that the sidewalk is no one's property, but he's definitely sitting on our property (albeit its edge).

And apparently, how dare I interrupt him?

next time he does it, pull out a tuba or some other loud racket-maker on your property until he gets the hint.

Or bring out an electric fan from the house, along with yards of extension cord to blow his smoke off your property. It's subtle but effective.

If he still doesn't get it, you call the cops for trespassing.

This probably belongs in the "What's NOT bugging you", but it's in relation to my previous post in this thread (# 1628). It appears that the commercial they are running now refer to the movie as just "Zack and Miri" and that the commercial is much less suggestive than the initial commercial they were running. I'm assuming this was in response to several complaints. It's safe to watch the playoffs again with my son.

I find it strange they are not promoting "Zach" as a Kevin Smith film...while very popular, he seems to have many detractors and a $30M ceiling on his grosses.
His movies are usually cheap to make and he has a cult following that will watch anything he makes so he gets to keep making them. Much like those Saw movies.

As for what's bugging me, I paid $160 for an MP3 player and the "charging cable" is a 3" long USB to miniUSB cable. It may only be 2 1/2" long. Seriously, they couldn't have made it at least 6"?

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

hawing. . .

Wow! I'm impressed with your confrontation. Perhaps you've shooed him away for good.

Not sure I would have done that. . .I may have been more likely to start up the lawnmower.

Cheers for the directness!

I still think I could improve my confrontational skills, and it bugs me that I let his grouchy reaction even make me start to believe that my approach was too harsh. But thanks.

One would think that at least we'll get a reprieve as fall turns to winter here. Last winter, "his seat" was packed with snow.

Today, 93.1 The Lake in Madison changed from classic rock to hip-hop. 93.1 was a much better classic rock station than 101.5, in my opinion. Now I have no station to wake up to in the morning that actually will play classic rock. All I will get will be talk. I guess I should buy an iPod alarm...
