What's bugging you? (2009)

splitterpfj

Per the Isthmus (weekly newspaper in Madison), Capital Newspapers recently let go longtime Wisconsin State Journal sportswriter Vic Feuerherd, and cut to half-time the hours of Capital Times sportswriters Dennis Semrau and Dennis Punzel.

Those three produce(d) the bulk of Brewers coverage in the Madison daily newspapers (or news sources, in the case of the Cap Times). Feuerherd also had been covering UW volleyball, which is the other sport I follow closely. So I suspect Madison newspaper readers will see a lot more AP coverage of the Brewers, which bugs me.

Not that I don't rely primarily on Brewerfan, but I like to see a local perspective in the paper as well.

(And I'd rather see Vic doing Tom H's job. There, I said it.)

That's a tough call, hawing. While I'm not really fond of Tom H., I've never cared for Vic at all. He just seems like a crabby old man who never had a positive take on anything....must have been a requirement to work at the WSJ as it seems like negativity pays the bills over there.

You know whats bugging me? Roommates. Mine in particular, who feel the need to let their friends from out of town stay here and be loud at early morning hours. I worked 12 hours yesterday and didnt get home until 4 am. I've been up for the last hour because of them. I just want some sleep! Ok rant over. PS- Im moving into my own place in less than a week, with 0 roommates, save my girlfriend. Thank God!

Watching the Redwings win the NHL Game of the Week on NBC today was great. Seeing a Flomax commercial that features Bob Uecker is not great. I don't want to here Bob talk about "Male Urinary Symptoms". I don't want to here anyone talk about it, but listening to Bob makes it even worse.

The frequency of the times I hear "I mean" bugs me.

The words are supposed to signify that one is correcting a mistake. I'd hate to think that people are correcting as many mistakes as the number of "I means" that we hear would indicate.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I've had a couple of e-mail exchanges with Vic before regarding career questions and even interviewed him for one of my classes. I've always thought of him as very friendly and helpful. And in my opinion, he's head and shoulders above blowhards like Tom Oates and Andy Baggot. I hate reading their columns.

Amen. Andy Baggot's been a thorn in my side for decades now. Of course, he and Tom Oates get to stay. And in today's State Journal, the Braden Looper story is all "wire services." Appreciate the stellar Brewers coverage, guys.

I didn't get a chance to read his column on the message boards but if you ever read any of the comments on the Badger Beat section online I can see why he would rip the boards.

I follow college football recruiting fairly closely and the level of rhetoric on the WSJ/TCT Badger Beat board is pretty much untolerable since most posters seem to have zero facts or just plain made up facts to support their own beliefs - - sort of the anti-Brewerfan type board.

Once again reminding me why I read this board for Brewer News. I guess I should just stick to the pay sites when discussing college football as well.

The Flight of the Conchords concert in Madison sold out in less than an hour. The two shows in Milwaukee are down to single seats only. We really wanted to see them.

I just did a quick search on Ebay and found these... I'm sure you could find them on sale through some ticket brokers as well.

I stopped playing soccer for 4 years after playing my whole life and started to play again last year. It was very exciting and I was planning on playing for at least the next 10-15 years, until I got an injury called osteitis pubis.

I have taken 3 months to rest and recover, and I felt great for the first couple of times I played, but the injury seems to come back again and again. It is very frustrating, and makes me think I need to hang up my boots for good soon. That makes me want to cry.

Trying to find a job.

I've applied to every company in the Madison, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Twin Cities areas in my field (Structural Engineering) who's website says they are taking applications, or actually have a job posted. Problem is I have just over a year and a half experience, and worse, the economy sucks, banks aren't lending, so people aren't building, so architects and engineers like myself are losing their jobs. My company evidently had been losing money for about 3 or 4 months before myself and another engineer were let go, we were in the crappy position of not having our PE certifications yet, but we had been there long enough to have gotten raises... So goodbye to the most expensive expendable employees.

It's cold outside, I've cleaned the entire apartment, I've done the laundry, I've sent out my resume to 17 different companies... All I can do now is wait or look for jobs in different fields... If anyone is looking for someone with a strong math and science background and doesn't mind a Civil Engineering degree, let me know, I can start the 23rd...

I'm finally doing the highlight film for the football season and at the end I normally do a tribute to the seniors, I put a picture up of them with their parents from Parent's Night and then play a highlight(more than 1 if you're a captain) for each senior. We had a large senior class and for the first time I have some players who didn't have a single highlight in their entire career. I've been through 2 years of varsity games and there are 2 kids that have absolutely nothing. I'm not going back to JV... I don't even capture those games to the computer, I'm entirely unsure what to do other than put a clip in that highlights them at the start and watch them run around? If I do that then it's trying to find the least sucky play, as in "Hey he didn't get knocked down on this kick off!".

Truly depressing, probably why I put it off this long.

I live in an apartment complex where smoking is allowed. This wasn't a big concern for me until some new tenants moved into the apartment below me. They are two early twenty-something year old smokers. One of kids works the graveyard shift and the other doesn't work, so it's 24 hours of smoking for the past few weeks. I've woke up at 5am from the smoke and I'm a pretty heavy sleeper. I think at this point the best option for me seems to be to find a different apartment complex. I just quit smoking myself after 10 years and this is all just driving me insane.

Schlitz - a short term solution would be an air cleaner. Good luck with the situation. My dad smoked and after I got out of the house for good, I found that I was more sensitive to smoke than other non-smokers. In college we had smokers in the dorm so I know somewhat it's like to put up with that.

If the online TV listings I just consulted are accurate, there's another Brewers Classics coming up at 7:00 CST. I wonder if it will be the 14-2 win vs. Houston in 2007, the rough-up-Sharpie, then Rillo-strikes-out-Counsell win vs. Arizona in 2007, or some other pre-2008 game.

I'm not saying I don't appreciate those memories (the extra-inning win vs. the Cubs in April 2007 was fun the other night). It's just that I know last season was pretty much a throwaway, but you'd think there'd be at least one game worth replaying from 2008.

Ohhhh...I'm am sooo mad with Orbitz!

I booked a reservation to AZ way back in September. In December, I moved the reservation back a week. Every time I have looked at my reservation it stated that my seats on the way to AZ are confirmed. I got an email yesterday from Obitz again stating that my seats to AZ are confirmed but the seats on the way back are pending approval from the airline. So, I call US Airways to see if I could confirm the seats on the way back. They were able to do this, but then they also informed me that my seats on the way to AZ are not confirmed and that they currently do not have 3 seats together. All they could suggest is for me to call tomorrow (24 hours prior to the flight) and try to get the bulkhead seats.

So I called Orbits and ranted. They stated that because I changed my reservation in December it wiped out my seat requests and for some reason this did not sync on my new reservation and still showed that the seats were confirmed. After a lot of ranting, they did offer me a $50 voucher on a future flight.....but I'm still very, very upset.

Suze Orman and her absurdly white toothy smile. Glenn Beck and his smirky mugging for the camera. Jim Cramer and his rolled up sleeves and emotional outbursts.

Then in the world of sports. . .

Jim Rome and his condescension. Steve Phillips and his not knowing much about baseball. ESPN Asia which insists on running F1, soccer, rugby, soccer, tennis, soccer and talk shows about soccer.
