What's bugging you? (2009)

I'm assuming the pizzas were delivered in a reasonable time. If not, and the people did not tip because of this, I would hope that they would explain this to you. Also, does your place charge an extra delivery fee? If so, many people look at this, right or wrong, as being the tip.

Ok, but it still bugs me, and we don't charge a delivery fee.

I delivered in college and I think the only time I was ever stiffed was by some high schoolers up for the state hockey tournament. Little weenies.

I guess you have never worked in the restaraunt field.

Or gotten a year end bonus.

Posted by meteorologist Kristen Connolly on WAOW's website. I can't link directly to it because it's in their "personal forecast" area.
The driest day right now should be Saturday. If you haven't went out to get that pumpkin you may want to take the kids out tomorrow.
That's the kind of mistake that should never, ever make it to paper (or a computer screen).

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

There's a a couple faceboook acquaintances of mine trying to accuse President Obama of halting the release of some crappy Diamond Rio song that was released in 2006. Do they honestly think the President has time to mess with some over the hill country band?

I get paid $4 something an hour to deliver pizzas, that is how I make my money. I guess you have never worked in the restaraunt field. Hopefully w/ that attitude you stick to carryout and drive thrus.

I actually tip very, very well. I would be annoyed if that was the only way I was able to make money as well. Then again, I would never do that because clearly the amount of money you make is going to change week in and week out. If I was in your situation I would be looking for a job that doesnt rely on other people determining my wage.

I have a full time job, but I deliver pizzas part time. Thanks for the advice.

Ok, youve got a full time job. Terrific. I just dont understand why you are expecting people to give you extra money to do it. I assume you give half of your tips to the person who makes the pizza right? How about the person who takes the order. Split that tip 3 ways? Like I said. I tip because I am thankful that someone is driving me the pizza and saving me the time. IF I had a job similar to that I wouldnt expect them to give me extra money. Its like getting me a beer at a bar. Im not tipping you a buck to open my beer bottle...im tipping you to remember me and have my order without me asking. Pizza....doesnt seem the same to me. Perhaps it is. Ive got friends who deliver pizza but they at least get minimum wage.

NEW ADVICE: Get a better part time job.

NEWEST ADVICE: I wouldnt take advice from me because I dont know your situation. To me, it just seems like a silly thing to let bother you.

Delivery jobs and restaurant waitstaff pretty much always rely on tips for a good share of their earnings. The only places I know of that pay more than market is a place like Old Country Buffet, and no, you really don't have a server there, just a guy/gal who keeps your drink full. A busser will probably make 50 cents to a $1/hr more there, and they work mighty hard for it as well.

The tip is for the driver because the driver incurs wear and tear to the car and probably has to pay for the gas. I've been a delivery guy on the side for over a year, and I personally want to ream out people who pay me $8 for a $7.98 order. Just today, I drove beyond the delivery range to deliver a relatively small order, and I received a 16 cent tip.

This thread is starting to show small signs of tension and emotions getting high. The discussion about tips is fine, but please don't make things (or take things) personal. Thank you.

Well to be fair it is a "What's bugging you?" thread.

Tipping is expected if you go to a full service place or get delivery. If you do not care to tip, go pick it up, or go to a fast food place. There's nothing wrong with either option, as my wife or I often go pick up our pizza or Chinese, as it's well worth the $4-5 savings in delivery fee plus tip for us to give up 15 minutes and a mile or three.

I delivered for 5 years back from '90-'95, and while it is strange why some get tips and some don't, it's tough to make an argument for not tipping without coming off as frugal and/or cheap. Back then, I averaged about 80 cents to a dollar per delivery, and I would expect it's double that now, maybe more. But, if you are ordering $15-20 of food, $2-3 to bring it to your door, often as hot as it was right out of the oven, is about as inexpensive as any service out there.

This is a serious question but are there pizza delivery places that pay well enough so you don't have to rely on tips?

I'm not sure, but I'm guessing there is. Last night was a bad night, but I usually have no problem w/ getting enough tips to make it worth my time. Its actually been a really good part time job for me.

Last night was a bad night, and its always a long day when I work my 2 jobs a couple of days a week. I didn't think it would be a big deal when I posted this in the "Whats Bugging you?" thread,

Not at all a big deal. Im just curious, as my friends get paid min wage or higher and get money for gas. So I just assume that getting a tip is extra. I guess im more curious to know who/why those types of jobs started to get tipped...and thus now have to be relied on.
