When you are parked on the street in front of your house and someone hits your side mirror, and then drives away. What can you really do about that? If I put a claim on it the deductible would cost more than it would to fix it, and I'm pretty sure its not big enough for the police to do anything about it.

The crazy thing is that I think our mailman did it, here is why, if anybody cares. We are located on a 35 MPH road, and there is plenty of room for parking on the street. Our mirror was not totally ripped off, just a little plastic and the mirror itself were broken. If someone was actually going 35 and hit our mirror wouldn't the whole thing be ripped off? Since the car was parked about 5-10 feet in front of our mailbox, it would have been a tight fit for him to drop the mail off, and then try to fit around our car to get to the next mailbox. And it happened in a 2 hour span when the mail was dropped off.

If anybody is familiar, do you know if mailmen get in huge trouble for causing accidents, and that is why he might have risked driving away from the scene of an accident?

I went over to my folks to fix their cable--see, another technology story!--and was feeling fit as a fiddle. I find out upon arrival that my dad has had a cold and cough for the past 2 weeks that won't go away. He's coughing away without covering his mouth (much). I fix their cable as fast as I can and stay as far away as I can from him but then he wants to "talk" about how work is going, etc. etc. It's not like I can just walk out on my folks without being rude. But even offering subtle hints to leave didn't do the job. An hour later, I'm finally home.

Guess who has a cold now and felt like crud all day? Yup, that'd be me. And that bugs me.

Yes, this really bothers me as well. It gets to be 20 degrees and I see all sorts of people walking around downtown without coats (other than maybe a suit jacket.). Do some men really need to display their machoism to the point of being completely uncomfortable. I don't care how much of a man you are, there is no way that you are not uncomfortably cold at 20 degrees and not wearing a jacket.

You know, this kind of describes me. I'm not out to be macho and all, but all I wear all winter is a hoodie...I don't really own a winter coat. It's just really comfortable to me. I'm also a decent sized guy, so I do have a little "insulation".

It's actually probably that I'm such a wimp when it comes to cold weather that I'm jeolous of people who don't seem affected at all by it.

half the reason i moved out of Wisconsin was because i was just so tired of the constant cold. i'm thinking of moving to even warmer climbs, although i still haven't really gotten used to the heat. it's kinda gross that in the summers that by the time i just get to work, my clothes are already drenched in sweat. but then when i think about complaining about the heat, i just remember all the frozen fuel lines i've had and i don't complain anymore.

it pretty much never gets below 20 in North Carolina, so locals always seem shocked that all i use for winter is a light flanel jacket. you people would be amazed at what they consider "snow" here.

I watched my mailman run over my plastic garbage can lid today. Normally I would lay part of the blame on the garbage man, as they usually toss/drop the can wherever they feel like it. Today, however, they placed it pretty much right where they found it. The only issue is they set it down so the lid was about six inches into the street. Not a big deal, except the mailmain evidently didn't feel like swerving that six inches when driving from the neighbor's mailbox to mine and ran right over it. There is no way he didn't see it.

I know I have it pretty good if this is the worst thing I have to complain about, but it is still annoying knowing I had a perfectly good unit this morning and now due to someone's carelessness I'll have to go to Menard's and shell out $20 for a new one.

Driving my car last nite....had the cruise at 73. Out of nowhere....it just starts going down and reset it self at 65. I redid it about 10 times.....same thing everytime.....When I got into town I set it at 40. Worked fine. Lame.
It's all part of a master plan by the Govt. to make sure that no one speeds.

Also, if you do get it working again, please don't set it at 73. That's where I set mine and I hate it when people merge onto the freeway and have their cruise set at the same speed as me. Then eventually, I just have to speed up and get in front, so that we are not riding side by side clogging up both lanes. Set it at 72 or 74 from now, so that you and I can avoid this possibly akward situation in the future...ok?....Thanks.

I am always scared to set my cruise at 73. I usually set it at 72, that one extra MPH could get me a ticket. Not sure why I think 8 MPH is so much worse than 7 MPH over though. I grew up in a speeding trap so that probably has something to do with my hesitatiion to speed.

There was an artical in the paper about a year or so ago that showed that the majority (more than 90%) of freeway speeding tickets in the Milwaukee area were given to drivers exceeding 12 mph over the speed limit.

Rosendale?

Correct. Not actually in Rosendale but I did have to travel through their quite a bit. When the local gas station is selling "Just the Ticket" T-Shirts, you know your town is known for the wrong things.

They basically have two cops that do nothing but sit on Highway's 23 & 26 where the speed limit changes and give tickets to people who speed up to fast or slow down to slow.

The ending dance scene in Slumdog Millionaire nearly ruined the movie for me.
You are correct.

However, there is a reason behind that scene. While this movie was a Hollywood movie - it was certainly done with a semi-salute to Bollywood. (India's version of Hollywood) Almost all Bollywood movies end with an elaborate dance scene. The end of Slumdog Millionaire was done as a tribute to Bollywood.

(It doesn't make it right - just understandable)

It's the same guys you see wearing caps everytime they leave their house. Like that guy in the Time Warner commercials from that crappy sitcom. Does he really think he's fooling anybody?

Supposedly they use their all-natural pepperoni on this pizza, which makes the pepperoni they use for their regular pizzas what? Probably not the best marketing idea.

I'm discovering that I have a caffeine/sleep cycle that is a holdover from college.

Basically, over a stretch, I work a lot and pack stuff into my schedule, sacrifice sleep and use caffeine (mostly coffee) to keep me going on a daily basis. It builds and builds until I'm basically a house of sleep deprived and caffeine-addicted cards, and then it all comes crashing down and I totally bottom out mood/fatigue wise.

In college, this would often be leading into a break of some sort, so I could sleep a bunch and get back to normal. But now that I'm out of school and working full time, the only breaks I have are weekends and a given weekend isn't enough time to recover from that sort of mess.

So this week I'm gradually weening myself off of the caffeine and living through some ROUGH afternoons. Ooooof. Hopefully this gets better.

I haven't read through all 88 pages of this thread, so I apologize if someone brought this up already.

I honestly think the media in this country is making the recession worse. I watch a lot of news, flipping between the various cable news channels (CNN, CSPAN, MSNBC, FOX, CNBC, HLN, etc.) and all they talk about is how terrible the economy is. And it is, I know, but I think that besides all the job losses another huge problem right now is that people that do have stable jobs are not spending because it's being pounded into their brains how bad the economy is, and so they save rather than spend. I'm not saying they shouldn't talk about it, just that it's not helping. That's all.

Can someone explain why some beer bottles are not twist off?

Amber Bock used to be a twist off - a few years ago they returned to the manual pop off tops. Its like reheating food the in the oven when you could use a microwave. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY!

I actually took that twist off query to Google recently, after having gone on a business trip, returning to my hotel with beers, and realizing they were pry off and my bottle opener keychain was with the valet. I was finally able to open the beer with a snus tin, but not without cutting my finger in the process of opening my 3rd quart of Carta Blanca.

It appears that pry-offs are largely based on superstition and "image".

And actually, that's something that's bugging me.
