I've used my ignore function on there quite a bit lately. Definitely some low brow posters there.

While listening to the badger hockey game on the radio, Spike TV was running Star Wars Episode III. The movie is not terrible, but I feel cheated by the ending. The good guys are winning, have everything going for them (see Mace Windu), and then the movie quickly moves to a lousy ending. Yoda takes his turn dominating the Sith Lord, only to suddenly order everyone to flee. What the heck man.....you were winning the fight.

Padme dies. Ok, we saw that coming. But did Vader kill her when he choked her, or did him turning bad kill her......I am confused.

And the ending. Vaders weak "Nooooooooo." Does it get any worse, cheesier than that?

A good movie could have been great. I feel cheated.

My car. Since January '09, it's been in the shop 5 times. Twice for cooling system problems, once for a starter, and twice for suspension problems. This latest one is a killer...most of my front suspension is shot (things really broke apart today), and I'm lucky I could still steer the car to the mechanic. I should get a new car, but I've put enough money into this one, I might as well drive it longer now.

Yeah the end of that movie seemed shoehorned. It had to end the way it did but how they got there was pretty poor writing. I also thought Yoda was winning and just walked away at the end. It sucked to have whiny guy throw Windu out the window.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Pants.

I'm ready for shorts weather.

For me this is shorts weather. My rule is I wear shorts when the local high is 45 or higher.

My only other similar clothing "rule" is that I am going to wear Brewers apparell every day we have a game. Started a week ago Thursday and I'm gonna keep it going as long as possible.

Best Buy.

This weekend we are taking the HDTV plunge. But we also have to upgrade a few other things. Where we live in Arizona, Best Buy will not ship/deliver large items. So, the television set and tv stand that we have picked out we have to go get ourselves.

Of course, neither will fit in our mid-sized SUV. The only way we can get them home is by renting a small moving truck one-way.

Anyways, tonight, we stopped to get the AV receiver that I need to upgrade our system. My old one will not support HDMI or even component cables so the upgrade was necessary. I'm usually pretty good at haggling prices and I even had several examples of lower prices that I found online for the model that I wanted.

However, the manager was a real nincompoop about the whole ordeal. He wouldn't let me haggle at all. When I complained that I've read that many people are able to do this, he kept giving me the run around. I finally got him to say, "It's usually up to . . . well, I can't do it."

I interrupted, saying, "It's usually up to what?"

His response: "It's usually up to the individual manager if they want to give a discount or not."

So I blew up at him, although I kept my cool, saying, "So you're choosing not to give me a discount? Why is that?"

He refused to respond and walked away saying, "I'm sorry, sir."

Several people in that section of the store heard a good portion of the conversation and you could tell that their decision processes were also affected by it.

Needless to say, I still bought the thing, because, as I said earlier, I had no choice since they wouldn't deliver it to my home. Luckily, I had some 10% off coupons and Rewards certificates that I could use to lower the price a bit. But still, I found the guy incredibly rude. I'll probably write a letter/email to customer service/corporate about the experience and how some managers will haggle and others will refuse and you're at the whim of the individual manager.

Long story, I know. Tomorrow will be interesting, too. We get the truck and go to a different Phoenix area Best Buy to get the tv and stand that I've got on hold for me. I plan on seeing if I can can get some sort of discount to off-set the price of the moving truck since they won't deliver and I have to take care of it myself. Here's hoping I have a much more enjoyable experience!

Sorry to hear your story, pitchleague.

I have come to hate Best Buy. I used to be a big fan, and have bought a number of things there, but they seem pretty terrible now that they're mostly the only game in town.

I also have not yet taken the big flatscreen plunge just yet, though I probably will once we finally return to the US later this year. I was thinking about just doing it all through Amazon or Flanners, just to avoid Best Buy.

FOG. And people driving in the fog with their headlights off.

I'm betting that these people are driving cars whose headlights turn on automatically. I had to turn on the lights manually the other day. Cars should really turn on headlights under lighter conditions than they're currently set up to do.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

That awful Pizza Hut ad campaign "I'm a broke college student."

Good god, if your broke, your not going to brag about $10 pizza. Everything about this commercial makes me cringe.

Adding bad acting to the mix......really making me angry at this point

They're an enormous company with profit margins that are being defined for each SKU by somebody sitting at a desk in Minneapolis. I'm sure that letting any product leave the store at less than the sticker price is a good way to get fired.

I'm pretty sure managers at most stores have the discretion to grant a different price. It may not happen often, and it may be frowned upon, but in the right circumstance (disgruntled customer, damaged merchandise, etc) it may be possible. I'm sure a justification needs to be written and filed in triplicate (or something like that) so it's not going to get handed out to every customer that asks about it.

What's the difference between haggling at Best Buy and haggling at American?

ewizabeth is right on. It seems to be at the discretion of the individual manager. I also used price matching. Although they only do it with local retailers (i.e. not online prices), you can use the online prices to haggle a bit. I got my TV reduced another $200 yesterday by using this tactic and talking to the manager about my "shipping" options that I discussed earlier in the thread. I'm mildly happy that it worked out. But yesterday's manager even said that under most circumstances they can not and will not make concessions. Bummer.

I was under the impression that you could haggle for just about any big ticket item (>$750 or $1,000) at any place. Also, "free" financing is not free. If you don't use their "free" financing, you should always ask for a price break.

I have ESPN on one of the TVs at the gym right now. It's non-stop Tiger Woods coverage about his comeback. Sportscenter has that "scroll bar" on the left side of the screen that shows the next six "new stories." Every item is about Tiger or related to his comeback. I know it's a big deal for golf that he's finally returning, but do they really not have anything else to talk about???

I'm interviewing for a new job and feel compelled to shave my beard. I've worked hard on this beard.

i know exactly what you mean. after my hike, my beard had grown to 6" long and it was spectacular. after i got back and had assimilated back to normal society, that beard was the last thing i had left of my short-lived former life. it was hard to cut that thing off.

What the hell is with those "Brand Power" commercials you see on cable or daytime TV programming? They seem like something out of the 1950s with some WASP-ish house wife smiling ear to ear and talking about how great some product is. They're really surreal.

Jan. 30th: Completed federal taxes.

Jan. 31st: Attempted to file federal taxes online, was not able to because one of the forms "could not be submitted online" to the IRS.

Feb. 1st: Mailed federal return to IRS.

March 15th: 6 weeks later, still have not received refund from IRS.

March 16th: Called IRS, was told I have to wait until tomorrow to check the status of return.

March 17th: Called IRS, was told return will not be processed until April because I changed my filing status from single to married, and they have to create an entirely new file for me.

As my daughter would say, bear shirt.
