Getting emails and texts from friends around the country ribbing me about the Packers loss is bugging me right now. Sheesh...kick a guy in the stones while he is down huh?

One TV channel kept putting on teasers for the 10:00 news suggesting we needed to tune in to find out if the Packers won or not.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Well, it doesn't sound like fun at all, so it must be less fun than that.

She cried for about an hour and a half of the drive, and nothing would calm her down. We were in central Iowa, so there are limited places to stop to get out to walk around. She scratched up her face due to her excessive screaming.

On top of the car ride, the longest stretch of time she slept at night was 2 hours. Normally, she only wakes up once in the middle of the night if she does at all. When she does, she falls back to sleep on her own. Staying in a hotel, we couldn't just let her cry it out, so we didn't sleep either.

Been there, done that... That is the worst age for traveling. Younger than that, they are content to sleep or sit (since they can't really move much anyway). Get older and you can read books to them, give them toys, watch videos to entertain them. But at that age... ouch.

We had a 7 hour trip with 3 kids, one 8-9 months old. Had a couple breaks along the way. About 5 hours in, he started screaming (for 20-30 minutes). So we stopped again at a park and let him get out of the cars seat. Back in 15-20 minutes later and he wanted no part of that car seat anymore... Last 1.5 hours were quite torturous as he didn't stop once. I has such a massive headache...

The positive is that my kids can do a 4-8 hour (even 10 hours once) car trip without blinking an eye now...(ok, a few complaints, but not too bad)

People who do not know how to merge or change lanes on the freeway. There is a long skinny peddle that your right foot rests on. Changing the amount of pressure your foot exerts on this peddle will cause your car to speed up or slow down. You can you this wonderful feature of your car to help you pick appropriate gaps in the traffic for which to maneuver your vehicle into.

A Baltimore elementary school hosted a pep rally event for the Ravens today. Kids who didn't wear purple were prohibited from attending the rally, and were forced to sit in the library.

I'm bugged by a couple of things. . .

Why do we bow at the alter of the NFL?

And why do some people with a small amount of authority insist on exercising a large amount of authority?

Agreed, JimH5, on all counts. Fortunately a bit of common sense prevailed. Also, note the kid in the Packers jersey in the front row! Too bad there wasn't a kid in a ManU jersey.

Went to go see Extremely loud and Incredibly close on Saturday night with my wife and son. It's rare that we would go and see a film on the weekend it comes out, but it was one that we all wanted to see and we also were eager to get out of the house and do something. Bought the tickets ahead of time, got there about 20 minutes early and staked out some good seats even though the theater was already 30% full when we got there (Ultra Screen at The Majestic in Brookfield). By the time previews started there were very few seats left in the theater, but there were 2 to my right.

Shortly after the credits started two people took those seats (I didn't notice their age at the time in the dark theater) and shortly after they sat down, a women came up to them and said "Glad you guys found seats, we are still looking". I lifted my drink from the cup holder to take a drink and before I could put it back the person next to me put his ICEE in the holder. It was then that I realized that this person sitting next to was no more than 10 years old and he was sitting next to his sister, who was also close to his age. Neither one had an adult guardian sitting with them. Not all 10 year olds are completely immature and obnoxious, unfortunately this one was.

I won't go into the plot of this movies (I'm guessing most people reading this know the premise of the movie), but it was way to "heavy" for this boy to appreciate and he made it clear that he was not going to attempt to try to understand the movie. From the time the movie began he was talking and making imature remarks. I had to tell him 4 times during the move to be quiet. Two were very early into the movie. I thought to myself, if he acts up again, I'm just going to have to go get an usher. However, he was somewhat tolerable for most of the middle part of the movie. However, just went the movie was begining to climax he started up again and at that point I really did not want to go the the trouble of getting an usher.

My anger is more directed at his parents. This was a PG 13 film and you have to know your children. Perhaps some 10 year olds could have handled this film, but not this kid and he didn't care at all if he ruined the experience for anyone else. If there are not enough seats for the whole family to sit together, then the parents have to split up and each sit with a child instead of making another person "baby sit" their non-respectful kids. Some people continue to live there lives after they have kids as if they don't have kids. They want to see a movie, they drag the kids along even if the movie is not really appropriate for their age. They have no concerns about anyone else and their children will grow up the same way. Very annoying.

Starting to feel the pressure of not having enough for retirement, I spent a week finding stocks to invest in for my IRA. My IRA only has $16k in it, but I'm only 32 and have 402(k)s invested elsewhere so I'm not doomed. I found 17 stocks to invest in. I didn't want to split them evenly since I had different confidence in each. I made a spreadsheet on Friday and figured out what percentage of my total cash I wanted to invest in each stock. I sold off what stocks I did have and waited to see how much cash I would have available on Monday morning. I entered this number into a square in my spreadsheet. All the number crunched and it showed me how many shares to buy of each stock.

I decided to check my account again that (last) night. All of my buy transactions went through. At the bottom of the page it said I had a cash value of -$5,517.22. I stared at it in shock. I double checked my spreadsheet and all of the orders placed and they all matched. I suddenly realized that I hadn't typed in the amount of cash on hand. I had kept cash in two mutual funds and had used Total Account Value instead of Cash on Hand. And I had mistyped the number. I had one of three choices. Come up with the missing cash to pay the broker (which I don't have), sell off positions to make up for it, or let them manage my account to make up for it. Because I had mistyped the number, I would still be $1500 short if I sold my last mutual funds (which is fee free).

I just entered in the correct amount into my spreadsheet and issued 17 partial sell orders to get my account to how I originally wanted it. This error cost me $152.15 (plus interest for the next 25 years) in commission fees. I don't even have the satisfaction of blaming someone or something else. I made a mistake and it cost me.

It is a little frightening to be worring about retirement when I have so long to go before that and I need to save so much money. Thankfully my employer has a great 401K program (100% match up to 6% of salary) so I am saving 12% of my annual income (Obviously subject to market fluctuations). But still when you are 28 and you know you need $1.5 to $2 Million to retire in 35-40 years it is really daunting. And god only knows if Social Security will still be around at that point.

I would be way to scared to try to invest on my own. If I had additional money to save I would almost certainly use a broker although I am sure it would be cheaper (From a transaction standpoint) to actually invest on my own.

Chris Mad Dog Russo joined Mike Francesa for a segment on Francesa's radio show earlier today.

I loved listening to Mike and the Mad Dog when they were a team and today was a nice reminder of those times.

I am getting tired of websites changing their interfaces/navigation. This is mainly targeted at Google today (though Facebook, that new timeline thing is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen). Google appears to be slowly changing their navigation from the black bar at the top of the page to one hidden by the Google logo. Some days I get the black bar, some days I get the new one. I hate the new one. Hate it. It seems there are extra mouse movements that I didn't have before. When I wanted to check my mail, I clicked "Mail." Now, I have to hover, scroll down with my mouse, then click "Mail." I know...it's not that big of a deal, but it seems pointless.

Gmail is changing its web interface to use icons on its dropdowns. I'd rather see real words.

Yes, I absolutely hate this ridiculous trend. I don't know what the stupid little 'folder' icon means. Or the other one that looks like a folder. Or that third one that looks like a mouse... or wait, is that a folder?

even now, when i use Wikipedia, i immediately head over to the lefthand sidebar for the search bar, forgetting that they moved it to the top right. and i'll add that as a former editor i got to be an expert in Microsoft Word. pretty much knew everything there was on that program. but then every single time a new version of Windows comes out, they also have to change up that stupid Word program again and i'm stuck having to relearn it.

I've heard that the ribbon interface in the newest versions of Word is pretty unpopular with a lot of users. Despite that, we're going to be seeing more ribbons in Windows 8.

I'm trying to get by without Office entirely. On the Mac platform, it shoves folders in places that get in the way and violate Apple's guidelines, and it insists on installing a browser plugin that I don't want. The plugin can be removed easily enough, but it gets put back every time Office updates.

There are rumors that Microsoft may put its Office apps into Apple's Mac App store. If that's the case, I may get interested. Anything in the App Store needs to follow Apple's rules (e.g. support folders would go where they belong and the installation of browser plugins wouldn't be allowed).

I rarely need a full-fledged word processor. For the most part, I can get by with TextEdit (more or less the Mac equivalent of Windows' WordPad). When I need word processing functions, I think Apple's Pages program will likely do the trick.

I also rarely need to deal with spreadsheets. The problem here is that Apple's Numbers application is definitely inferior to Excel. I read recently that Numbers sucks because Steve Jobs didn't do spreadsheets. On the other hand, Jobs did presentations, and Apple's Keynote presentation app is considered to be excellent. (Tim Cook's a spreadsheet guy; I bet he uses Excel. http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif)

My son has pulled the trifecta of bugging me this morning: Whined about getting up, chewed his cereal w/ his mouth open (worst sound in the world to me) and snorted his snot instead of blowing his nose. Yes, he's 6. No, that doesn't change the fact that those last two noises nearly put me over the edge at 6:00 in the morning...

Oh boy do I feel your pain. My wife usually leaves for work before me and I have been the one to get our son going in the morning since he was 3 or 4 (he's now 13), whether it was to day care then, or school now. Not sure about you, but I'm not a morning person at all and it doesn't take much to set me off early in the morning. My poor son has been yelled at by me in the morning over the year over some pretty small stuff....the eating with the mouth open...oh yeah, I know where you are coming from there. I think the frustration comes from the fact that while I'm running around the house getting everything ready together to get out the door, he's just sitting there eating his cereal, watching tv, ...not a care in the world, no concept of time. For some reason, I want him to be a little stressed out like I am. Not sure why.

Being in my car between 7:57 and 8:00 am. There are three stations that I jump back and forth between on my morning commute. Most of the time I can avoid commercials. Unfortunately, just before 8 am each morning, all three stations run ads. Okay...it's pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things...but it bugs me.

My garage door and opener are bugging me today. My house is 7 years old and the opener has been replaced 3 times already. The door springs are now going on their 3rd set and this overall door and fix has cost me around $1500 just in repairs in the 7 years. AHH!
