What's bugging you? (2012)

JimH5

Had the packers taken care of business the firt 59 minutes and 59 seconds of the game, that play wouldn't have mattered.

What's bugging me is the media hype, and the suicidal behaviors of packer fans... Just sick of the coverage.

It's not like the Seahawk's offense did anything in the game to claim they deserved to win either. I would argue that managing a whopping 214 yards of offense prior to the hail mary would equate to getting beat just as much as the Packer's giving up sacks in the first half.

So neither team did anything to "deserve to win," and the game came down to something outside of the control of both teams. I'm a lot more worried about the Packers' team right now than about the outcome of the game. They need to start playing much better or else they'll be so far out of the playoff hunt that Monday's game won't even matter.

This isn't any difference than if the Brewers left a whole bunch of RISP during the game but still held a 2-1 lead going into the 9th and then lost on a missed trapped ball call. Yeah it should have never come to that point but they still lost because of a horrendous call.

I know this isn't a Packers board; but had to vent.

car quit working again, and i think it's a major one this time. i have absolutely no money and no way to make car payments, so this'll be interesting. and darn if i only recently paid the thing off, too.

$5,000+ of repair work since i've owned it for a car that currently has 130,000 miles. thanks, Hyundai.

Sorry to hear about your car woa's Game. However, not sure it's fair to impune an entire brand of car because of trouble with one car you purchased from that company. Like most other car companies, some models and years of Hyundai's are more reliable than others. The wife and I just "retired" our 2004 Hyundais that we purchased new (she had a Sonata and I had a Santa Fe). I had 180K+ on my car and never had any major issues with it. The Sonata had less miles on it and a few more issues, but was still pretty reliable. These are not huge miles, but still, considering the purchase cost of Hyundais vs. Toyotas or Hondas, it was pretty good.

Even if your current car isn't running, do you think it's worth anything in trade? I'd try to get the cheapest used car possible to get by with for now. You definitely don't need to be making car payments given the situation you've described in other posts.

the car might get me $1500; it needs a new alternator (it was a new one, but oil drips on it to kill it). i was thinking something in the $5000 range, as my father is there to help me out when I need it (and I'm sure i will) and to co-sign should that also be required. i worry about something cheaper than that because i'd be trading my car problems for somebody else's. i'm not going to town in my car to the dealership right away, but try to get all-but-settled on something and then pay to tow it in.

i just lost one of my two jobs (not because of me) and hopefully will find something else soon to get me back to breaking even. i don't want to count on anything, but hopefully it won't be forever until i'm able to land a real job.

Hyundais have come a long way: they used to be crap.

Another potential problem with really cheap cars is that a good number of people who buy them either get the cheap car because they don't care much, or they had to go cheap because they're just scraping by and will skimp on maintenance. Either way, you run a greater chance of getting a neglected car. Everyone I know who treats their car like crap drives an econo-box or old truck.

A high-profile visitor is coming to UW-Madison Thursday (whom you can talk about at the BF political scene) and will be within a city block of my workplace. But I still have no information on how or whether my library will be open. I'm not sure the planners remember that the number of hours between now and then is finite and I have many parties to notify if we do close or close early. I do not want to be sending these emails from the ballpark Wednesday night.

I don't get why they don't just have him in the Kohl Center. You know, an enclosed and relatively secured area that is meant to hold large crowds and doesn't require a complete shutdown of every other building and road nearby.

A police officer I know told me that for his 2010 visit, he asked for an open-air space. My guess is his preference hasn't changed. Library Mall is clearly not an option this time because of the latest rounds of utility and other construction projects. The 2010 visit also drew more people than the Kohl Center can fit.

Why they couldn't use Camp Randall is another valid question. You won't run out of seats there, it's open air but has obvious physical boundaries, and the system for security around Breese Terrace is well established and regularly implemented.

The current status for my building is that we'll be open all day Thursday, with only one entrance available (besides an emergency exit). We've been asked to keep students out of their carrels on the south side of the building, and I don't know yet if we must keep people out of our whole south stacks (i.e. half our collection). We'll have no mail or delivery service. I don't expect anyone there for library services; maybe plenty to listen to the address from a warmer and drier place. "Ridiculous" is an overused term nowadays, but it might pertain in this case.

However, the University says the instructions they're getting change literally by the hour - so it could all be different!

This is turning into an expensive repair week in our household. Our water softener we just had installed about six months ago leaked water all over our basement on Sunday night. Have to pay for our carpeting to get pulled up and dried out. Now today we figure out the heating element in our dishwasher is busted. Also our clothes washer is on its last legs and has been leaking fluid. I realize appliance replacement is inevitable with home ownership, but this is like a triple whammy all in a three day span.

I hear you Invader. Sometime the Home maintanence/Appliance repairs and replacement costs seem non-stop. Within the last two years we have replaced both our Furnace and our Roof. I'm thankful that we have some equity in our house that we can borrow against to help pay for those big-ticket items. I also fear that our water heater is a ticking time bomb that I can't hold off replacing for too much longer.

Seems a water softener fail after six months shouldn't be your cost to bear (unless you installed it yourself).

Two years ago this week, we lost our water heater abruptly, in slightly amusing fashion. A local company had been running a special for replacing your water heater with a tankless one, which we'd been considering anyway. This was during September, when I'm always up-to-here with new school year work, so I asked the SO to make the call. He put it off, and put it off, and put it off. On the last day of the promotion, he sent an email to the company, and then still wasn't sure.

Then he went to take a shower after a jog and found no hot water. He felt motivated after that. :rolleyes Fortunately, we only went without for a few days. Parts of the old water heater actually disintegrated (leaving a trail of rust in our driveway) as the installers took it out to their truck for disposal.

Yeah, I'll definitely be taking up my carpet cleaning bill with the water softener company after I finally get it. It's a local company with a decent reputation, so hopefully they will give me some satisfaction. We are fortunate that the money isn't a big deal for us, since the carpeting cleaning bill shouldn't be too crazy...it's more just the principle of the whole thing. We spent a lot of money to buy and have the water softener installed. In retrospect, we might have been better off just renting it.

The appliances we noticed looked fairly "beat up" when we moved into this place. I just didn't figure on replacing them more than one at a time. Oh well.

Will homeowner's insurance help you out?

The plumbing leading to my dad's washing machine leaked a couple of years ago. While the damage was confined to a relatively small area, the floors in three rooms had to be totally replaced to make everything match.

He actually used this as an opportunity to upgrade. He did four rooms with improved flooring. Insurance covered $9,000 of the $13,000 bill. Insurance paid for the full cost of the large foyer, my dad paid the difference between vinyl and porcelain/wood in the laundry room and kitchen, and footed the entire cost to replace the den carpet (which wasn't damaged but needed replacing) with wood and an area rug.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Tomorrow is going to be SNAFU Thursday, and there's nothing I can do about it except show up and roll with the punches.

(Among other things, I suppose 1992casey and I should discuss whether SNAFU violates the cuss filter.)

Our basement flooded after a record rainfall five years ago, which only had one side finished at the time. It was early spring so the ground hadn't completely thawed yet which caused the sump pump to back up since it had place to discharge the water. I spent days sucking up water from the carpet with a shop-vac. Shortly after that, I purchased a water sensor (I think the brand name was Basement Watchdog) for about $10 at a Home Depot. It's a little gray box that has a couple of metal sensors on the bottom that sends out a screech when it becomes wet. I placed it next to the floor drain which was next to our water heater in the unfinished side of the basement. Not many weeks later while I was at work and my wife was just about to leave for her job, she heard the screech and ran downstairs to find that the bottom of the water heater had rusted out and was gushing water. Thankfully she heard it and was able to shut off the water intake valve. Had we not had that sensor, the basement would have been completely flooded. Best $10 I ever spent.

It's bugging me that Taco Bell has not released the Cool Ranch Doritos Locos taco nationwide yet. I'm not a fan of Taco Bell's regular tacos, but I could probably eat 10 Nacho Cheese Doritos Locos tacos in one sitting.

A few of my friends and I plan to have a taco night as soon as they are found in Milwaukee.

Yes, we're going to order like 30 cool ranch tacos.
