What's bugging you? (2012)

Nothing is really bugging me right now, but I recovered my bike on Wednesday. Stole it back out of some little jerks hands. Kid was trying to tell me it was his cousins bike that he's had for a month or so. It's now in safe keeping on the other side of town.

What's bugging me is the attention...prostitutes...at Miller Park games. I saw 5 different adults last night with their phone numbers on those Kohl's signs. Really? You are so horrible at meeting people you resort to simply handing your phone number out to everyone? 3 of these people were...not young adults.

My job. I've been working here for about 5 years now. For the past 2 I've been told to "keep doing what you're doing" and a promotion is right around the corner. I even was "asked" to withdraw from a position I applied for and was going to get (information confirmed by the hiring manager) by one of the VPs because "there are bigger things around the corner we have planned for you." Well, that was a year and a half ago. A couple days ago a couple of postings went out for positions that I've been waiting for and am qualified for. The problem is, apparently two weeks ago they changed the requirements for those jobs that you need to have a Bachelors degree and didn't announce that to anyone. I have my Associates, but still have about 2 years before I finish out the Bachelors. I spoke to the VP who asked me not to take the other position and was basically told they can't grandfather anyone on this, so I have to wait 2 more years now. So I'm stuck in a position I'm burnt out on, still making less then I would have if I would have taken the job I was told not to take, and still being told that I can't improve on anything and just need to "keep doing what you're doing."

DirecTV and Viacom's dispute + a daughter on summer vacation who likes Nickelodeon is bugging me.

I don't want a partial refund or free movie channels or an upgrade to my DVR service.

I want kid channels back. I'm running out of ideas here.

No WISN on Time Warner. I obviously don't watch it that much as I only found out about it on Saturday, but really? How can a cable network not carry an OVER-THE-AIR channel? I can get it for free with an antenna but not by paying? I understand how these things work, but it's just ridiculous... this isn't some expensive premium channel like HBO that we're talking about.

794 West bound out of Milwaukee. If you live west of Milwaukee but work downtown, they really don't want to make it easy for you to get home at night. Originally they had two lanes on 794 west that merged with 94 west and everything was fine. About a month or two ago, they decided to narrow all lanes on 794 west to 1 lane. On top of that, many people that take this route every evening fail to understand the "zipper" policy when it comes to merging.

I really want to send an email to someone about this, but I'm not sure who. Does anyone know who makes decisions regarding these types of things....the DOT? What department of the DOT?

Obviously, the concrete didn't disappear. :) Where does that old lane go now?

People aren't going to understand the zipper unless it's promoted. According to posts here on the board, Minnesota advertised it heavily in the media.

It was a horse apiece for them, 43 was backing way up during rush hour, due to it's merge going down to 1 lane.

They added a lane to 43 merging into 94 and got rid of one on 794. If I were working down town and wanting to go west now, I'd get onto 43 S at McKinley, and just go right onto 94 from there.

McKinley is pretty far out of the way for most people that work downtown. Also, I have taken that ramp a couple of times when I had to go south after work and it's usually quite a mess (the ramp meter lights are pretty much irrelevant on that ramp as cars are just backed up on the whole ramp at rush hour. I never take that ramp anymore if I have to go south). So, by the time you get to that ramp, get through it, and then onto 94 West you have probably actually lost time compared to just dealing with 794. Again, they basically have screwed anyone who lives West and works downtown.

As far as it being "a horse a piece"...I have to disagree. There are basically 4 lanes all the way up to the 25th street/Clybourn off ramp. Two lanes a piece sounds fair to me. Now, the people coming from downtown have to squeeze into one lane before they get to 16th street. If it is "a horse a piece" then some engineer in charge of designing the new Marquette Interchange should never be allowed to design interchanges again. It really should not have taken a whole lot of experience to foresee that this was going to be a problem. It was much easier to get out of downtown before the new interchange was completed.

They also took away an on ramp for people living west of downtown when they designed the new interchange. You use to be able to get on 794 at 2nd street and continue West. Now you can only go south or north onto 43.

After some googling, it looks as though the change was made to curtail people driving illegally to get off at the 25th street exit. Ridiculous as it is, there simply isn't enough room for 5 lanes of traffic there, and people were driving across the shoulder to get to the 25th street exit on a consistent basis.

Where were the people who were trying to get off at 25th Street coming from?

That's my question too. My guess, from what you are saying Baldkin is that people were crossing 3 or 4 lanes of traffic from 794 to get over to the 25th street off ramp. My question is who takes 794 to 25th street?!? I guess maybe if you are coming from Cudahy (over the Hoan Bridge) it makes some sense, but to get on 794 downtown and then get off at 25th street does not make a whole lot of sense.

Well, at any rate, I hope they eventually come up with a better solution to this problem. How about a sign.."Crossing over to 25th street off ramp is prohibited" ?

Yeah, it would make sense to want to exit if one had traveled over the Hoan Bridge, but those drivers have Michigan Street, Milwaukee Street, and 35th Street as options.

Based on looking at a map, the ramp you mention actually brings traffic from both 43 (from the north) and 94 (from the south). That's a heck of a lot of traffic, probably much more than would be coming from 794. Still, 794 is a wide road, and narrowing it down to one lane is going to cause a bottleneck.

The ideal solution probably would have been to make the 94 & 43 ramp merge with the East-West Freeway west of 25th Street. That would have made 25th Street physically inaccessible from 794. I see where the space problem comes into play, though. It may have been that Clybourn would have needed to cease being a through street for that to happen. That would suck.

From what I read it was people merging onto 94, coming from 43 when traffic was stopped, due to people having to merge over into one lane (from 2 lanes of traffic) and the exit ramp to 25th street not being clear. Then people driving onto the shoulder to get to the exit.

Again, this is random internet speculation. I couldn't find an actual link to the police report study that the article referenced.

I'm curious how many of my posts in this thread concern Drew Olson (the laziest sports journalist in town), but here we go again. Today, he was on with Bob & Brian and said that "there's no reason the Brewers can't win 20 of 25, because it's not like they're getting blown out every night." Really Drew? Winning 20 of 25 is rare for any team, let alone one with ginormous holes at 2B, SS and every inning after the 6th.

It sounds like the freeway problem was twofold:

  1. Interstate 43-94 traffic entering the East-West Freeway was forced to condense to one lane, causing lines.
  2. People would leave the line and use the distress lane to get to the 25th Street ramp.

The issue didn't really involve I-794 traffic trying to cross lanes to exit at 25th Street. Both before and after the change, if I-794 drivers wish to exit there, they have about 4 short blocks to make the lane changes. That might be possible in very light traffic, but under most circumstances, they should plan on continuing on to 35th Street.

EDIT: If I wanted to avoid the potential bottleneck entering from I-794, I think I'd take St. Paul Avenue west from downtown and enter the freeway from the ramp between 26th and 27th Streets.

Y'know what's bugging me?

That stupid cigar bar commercial they play all the time on 1250 where the lady says "We were able to raise such and such cigars to spite his poor showing"

"To Spite" has a completely different meaning from "in spite of" or "despite"

They can't even use the English language correctly in their commercials.

That stupid cigar bar

Generally when I hear "cigar bar" I usually assume there's an element of class about the place. Yet this place is called "The Nice Ash" and advertises free shots after the Packers score. :laughing

There are a lot of people that work downtown and live west. I think it's crazy that we have to look for "alternate routes" out of downtown on a permanent basis, especially after they just rebuilt the entire Marquette interchange in order to make travel through the interchange EASIER. The whole design seems to have been very poorly thought out when it comes to people leaving downtown.
