Rainbow stuff is pretty outlandishly priced. Didn't realize the replacement would be that bad though. Ugh

Yeah, it's pretty ridiculous for a piece of molded plastic. I can't find any third party options, so we'll probably be forced to suck it up and pay them the 300 bucks.

Did the sale go smooth with the previous owners and do you still have their contact information? Perhaps they would be willing to help you out and call Rainbow and get the replacement (since the warranty is non-transferable).

That is exactly what I was going to say. Also, maybe you could get lucky and find a used one someplace? Craigslist perhaps.

First thing I'd do is contact the sellers and see if they would be willing to help you out. Heck, you could even give them $50 and still come out ahead.

The sale went fine...I'm not sure if I still have the seller's number or not. I'm not sure if I feel like going that route or not. The paperwork for the playset was signed by the wife, who I believe lives in Central America now (I think she only was in the house sporadically while the husband spent most of his time here, at least that's what the neighbors told us).

I've tried searching for used ones...there's one on eBay, but the sale is local pickup only and in New Jersey. I'll keep hunting around.

Contrary to what WTMJ's Jodi Becker reported in a story today, Monroe isn't "tiny." I don't know if she said that because she didn't check her facts or because she thought making up that tidbit would make her story more interesting. The end result is that even though this seems somewhat trivial, I'm less likely to trust what she has to say in the future.

Moving right along, I just came back from dinner. The guy at the table behind me was absolutely yelling into his cell phone over the course of what must have been a five to seven minute conversation. I could hear a woman at the table whispering "go outside," but he didn't take her up on that advice. He did put the call on speakerphone, though.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Wow..you have to be kidding! I can't believe how self absorbed some people are. I'll never understand why people having conversations (either on the phone or not) need to talk any louder than is necessary to enable the people they are talking to hear them. Some people talk so loud...unless they have hearing issues, it just seems like arrogance to me.

It's either arrogance or ignorance. I've stopped carrying my phone a lot of the time, and when I do have it, it tends to be off unless I'm expecting a call.

Back to idiot broadcasters, the other night, the channel 6 sports anchor reporting on the Brewers game said that the team had a "rare lead." Even historically bad teams routinely lead in games, and if you consider the definition of routine, they even win somewhat routinely.

oftentimes i try to switch listening ears (phone-related) based on if i'm having an emotional conversation (friends or a lady) or a business-related one. trying to match up the side of the brain that would be best for dealing with that.

It was something like 7 days that the Brewers didn't have a lead at anytime. It was like a Tuesday to a Tuesday.

First, Walgreens. They are my wife's employer since 2005 as an assistant manager when we graduated from college (we both started there but I left in 2008 after adding an accounting degree and passed the CPA because there is just no career advancement there). Back when we started, the pay was about $14 an hour and you had a guarantee of four hours of overtime at time and a half. Plus they had generous "promotional monies" paid if you would upsell customers on certain photo packages, so she grossed probably around $35k a year. After I left in 2008, they scaled way back on the PM's and eliminated the overtime. At the hourly rate she was at, I calculated that it was a loss of $6k gross income annually. Now, they've decided to eliminate her position entirely but replace it with a new position that has the same exact responsibilities, just a different title and a 25% reduction in pay. Her new hourly rate dropped from over $19 an hour to $14.50, so she'll lose about $10k in gross income annually this time, and will make less annually than she did as a new college grad in 2005. Thankfully the job I scored after adding the accounting degree and CPA pays twice what she makes so it won't be a fatal blow to the household income like it would have if we were both still working there. So, lesson for the kids: if you want to go to school for business, major in accounting or finance because if you just major in business admin, you'll either wind up in sales or retail management. You can do anything with an accounting degree that you can do with a business major, plus a whole heck of a lot more.

Everyone seemed to respond to the Realtor. But this Walgreens issue warrants attention. That really doesn't seem fair and I wonder if it is something that an attorney can file a suit against. I'd inquire it to them. It feels like some kind of employer wronging that a law should protect from. It should have been discussed with her and allowed only with her acceptance or some kind of severance package should have been issued to remove her position which would be in the end firing her. I have a friend who works at the Journal Sentinel and that seems to be their case over the years. Offering Severance packages to have them quit or they were asked if remained to take a paycut and also agree to not expect any payraise(which apparently was 2-4% yearly) for 3years. Of course they didn't tell her by remaining on that paycut, that she would now be required to do the work of one of her co-workers who took the severance and left on top of what she already was responsible.

It's also something I would try to find out if this has happened Statewide removing her position. If it was Country-wide. Or just within that store only, blatantly showing it as a complete wrong to your wife.

What's bugging me is that the DOW continues to climb and it's at your wife's expense/my friend's that is a big part to blame. Coming out of the recession, employees are being paid less than what they were paid prior to it and there's less of them employed but overall employee production is up(due to likely saving their job fears).

You pay $10/hr 8hr shift to 20 employees who produce 100 computers each, every day. That's 2,000 computers at $1600 daily cost.

You fire 8 employees reduce pay of the remaining to $9/hr but still get them to produce 2000 computers a day. It only costs $864 a day on employee pay. This is essentially what is going on. So every quarter companies are showing off glaring profits.

At some point, this is going to fail again when the lack of income all these employees are making with less jobs(or likely reopened jobs today only paying less than in 2007) and less pay....How do folks afford to buy the products the big companines make when Millions of People used to make $33k a year are now making $27,500/yearly? You take away $5500 a year someone can spend on the product you produce it will result long term on them not being able to buy your product as often. And then boom, all those glaring Quarters you had been posting come to a halt.

I'm waiting for this scenario to play out in the DOW at some point with Earnings reports showing consumer reduction.

Yep. Corporations in this country have made out huge over the past ten years, while the middle class continues to shrink. Enough people seem to be content with this scenario that it doesn't matter for now, I guess.

re: Point Beer's wife's situation, I really doubt there would be any grounds for any sort of lawsuit, as that sort of scenario seems to be all to common in our country. I'm no lawyer though.

Seems like some of this stuff may belong in the political forum.

You're probably right Patrick. I didn't mean to take it in a political direction, just trying to offer some general insight. Let's end that part of the discussion there unless people want to take it to the BF.net Political Scene: http://brewerfanpoliticalscene.yuku.com/

Pick 'n Save sells expired food. Walmart sells expired food. My dad tends to forget to check dates when he shops. It's much easier to deal with this in the store than after the food has gotten home.

My sister lives out in the boonies and the closest "grocery store" (really just a little corner convenience store) to her routinely has stuff on the shelves that is way past expiration. I don't know how the state hasn't shut them down.

As much as a loathe Pick 'n Save and Walmart, Woodman's is a pretty big offender of this as well in my experience.

Mine as well. I'm embarrassed at how long it took me to train myself to relentlessly check expiration dates there. (I feel like I should add that I place no blame for this on burniebrewer, who I believe still works for Woodman's.)

I guess you have to check expiration dates everywhere. Part of the problem at Pick 'n Save is that they don't bother to rotate stock… unless it's milk, which is rotated automatically because it's stocked from the back.

In addition to relentlessly checking, I've take to writing the expiration date on the product with a Sharpie marker once it gets home. That saves time in the long run because the date is hard to find or hard to read (or both) on so many products.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Its bugging me that for the first time in the almost 7 years ive been with my department, I finally injure myself on duty. Not by lifting a heavy patient,or performing extrication, but simply stepping out of the truck awkwardly. Talk about a major fail. Its only day 3 of being off and im already going stir crazy on the DL
