What's bugging you? (2013)

fondybrewfan
Freeway drivers who can't decide what speed they'd like bother me too. Recently, I got close to a car in the right lane who was going a little under the 65mph limit. Fair enough; I moved to the left lane. As I passed him, he must have decided that he could go faster, making it tougher for me to go by him. When I eventually got ahead of him and moved back to the right lane, suddenly he was in the left lane passing me. After that, he moved back to the right lane and started driving below the speed limit again, so it was rinse and repeat.

THIS is maddening.

People who do not maneuver around cars that are waiting for oncoming traffic to clear as they make a left hand turn.

I'm not sure what you mean here. :)

Basically what fondybrewfan stated is what I'm talking about. I think I know how you are going to respond to this Casey....that's it's illegal to go around someone and "off the road". You don't have to go "off the road" to go around someone. I'm not talking about some country road in the middle of nowhere. Even if it is "illegal" (which I question), I highly doubt that a cop would stop you if your car partially goes into the unoccupied parking lane for 2 seconds for the purpose of trying to ease traffic congestion.

I'll agree with you on the people continuing to make left hand turns long after the green arrow has ended as well as the people not going one speed on the freeway...which is mostly an open highway issue. I'm not sure why more people don't make use of cruise control in light traffic areas of the freeway.

While left hand turning really bothers me it is slowly being overtaken by people texting while driving. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person on the road not doing it.

100% and totally agree with this statement.

It is amazing how many cars you see where the driver is talking on the phone too. There are times, at intersections while waiting for a light, there are more people talking on the phone while driving than not.

I don't get it, are people that much more important than me that there is a constant need to be on the phone while driving?

I can count on one hand how many times I have talked on the phone while driving. I just don't see the need. I have never texted while driving, but I admit, I send about 5 texts a month total, but never, NEVER while driving.

You can always tell when the car in front of you is texting or even talking on the phone while driving. It is highly irritating, and the fact that people are so selfish they don't mind putting everyone around them at risk is frustrating.

I'll admit that I talk on the phone occasionally while driving, but I do it hands free through blue tooth and can control everything through one or two buttons on the steering wheel. I know that can still be a distraction, but I really do not do it that often and my conversations are usually with my wife and last perhaps a total of 2 or 3 minutes tops. Generally it's something like telling her I'm going through the drive through on the way home and asking her if she wants something.

What I find curious is that many cars made in the last 3 or 4 years come with bluetooth as standard equipment. I see so many people in newer cars (BMWs, Lexus, Accura) that I know have to have bluetooth and they still continue to have a phone up to their ear. Why not learn how to use this convenient feature of this car if you plan on using your cell phone while driving.

The texting thing really is kind of like driving with a bunch of drunks in rush hour. Cars that can't stay in their lane and leave unreasonable spaces between them and the car in front of them (basically because they are looking down instead of forward). As turborickey stated, very easy to spot.

My current car has bluetooth and I've had bluetooth in cars going back to 2002 and I have paired my phone but when I leave bluetooth on it drains the battery on my phone much quicker. I never remember to turn it off once out of the car or take the time to turn it on again once in the car. I don't talk that much on my phone and most commutes are pretty short for me so it easier to just leave bluetooth off and talk directly on the phone for those rare times I need to talk or answer it while driving. Once in while if I know I'll be in the car for longer or I know I'll be makiing/receiving a call I'll turn it on, especially now that I have an app that toggles it on and off.

Is it a bar/restaurant? Just playing devil's advocate, but if it is, do you guys go there after games? Usually being a sponsor is an investment. Either advertising or expectation that you'll frequent their establishment and therefore return a profit on the investment.

It is a bar, but in 5 years, we have missed maybe 2 weeks. Each week, we get 5-6 guys, and always have 4-5 pitchers plus everyone gets food. They easily make their money back and profit off of us.

I don't think there'd be a legal issue with utilizing the parking lane (or whatever it's officially called). There'd be a legal issue with using a gravel shoulder or a right turn only lane.

In any of these situations, legal or illegal, it's possible that there might not be room on the other side of the intersection to safely get back into the driving lane. Some of the 76th Street intersections in West Allis come to mind as examples. This is a case by case thing, though, and I don't think anyone would be upset if someone waited vs. trying something that's unsafe or impractical.

Yeah, I don't get why people don't use cruise control. In most cases, a glance at the vehicle tells you that it obviously has one. The vehicle that annoyed me was a late model SUV outside of Beloit on a dry freeway on a Saturday. He certainly would have had a cruise control, and conditions wouldn't have been a deterred him from using it.

My day care provider. I have joint custody of my older son (6), and my ex kisses up to all his care providers. It usually takes them a few months to figure out that she sucks up for show, and does very little with him. She basically ignores him and leaves him to entertain himself, unless there is a public chance for her to try to appear as "mother of the year". Within a few months, most people realize that my wife and I really work with him, and give him tons of attention. At this point they realize I'm not the bad guy, and move on with life. I don't feel the need to kiss up to teachers and day care providers, I'm polite, but am not looking for new best friends.

His current day care provider is dumb enough that she hasn't figured it out yet, it's been 2 years. She hasn't realized that any time he is sick, I am the one who comes to get him, (because the ex doesn't answer her phone). That we are the ones who are pushing him so hard at potty training (he has developmental delays), at learning his numbers (he knows them, he just can't see the order correctly in his head), that dress him in clothes that actually fit him and weren't third generation hand-me-downs (she has an older daughter who dresses impeccably, my son looks homeless when she dresses him, and with a 50/50 split and me still paying child support, she can afford to buy him clothes).

The ex has been gone for a week, so my son has been at my house every night. He has stopped biting his nails, he is more focused, and we got a note home from his teacher yesterday saying that he is the happiest she has ever seen him. This morning, the day care lady made a big production over the ex being gone. "When does your mommy get back? I bet you can't wait to go home?", if you must, say that to him after I leave.

I don't want her out of his life, but I would like him to have the consistency of being at the same house every night during the week. The ex works second shift, so he spends his evenings with a babysitter when he is at her house. Unfortunately, the county in IL that I have to go to court in is extremely "pro-mother". She would have to beat him to lose any sort of custody. What's bugging me is the antequated notion that the mother is always the best parent.

This provider needs to be held accountable. Comments like the one she made to your son are insensitive and unprofessional. She should know better.

I'd talk to her boss ASAP. Focus on the comment; don't say anything about your opinion of your former wife. That'll only serve to make you look bad.

I had a job interview on Thursday February 28. They told me they want to fill the position immediately and would let me know by Friday or Monday. I had a different interview on March 5. They also told me they wanted to fill the position immediately and would let me know by the end of the week. I haven't heard from either of them. I assume I didn't get either position and I'm not disappointed because both interviews really turned me off to the jobs but if you tell me you're going to let me know by such a time is it really that difficult to actually follow through and send a form email or letter or give a phone call?

A follow-up from you would be totally appropriate imo. Just mean that I don't think you'd be out of line to ask them what's going on.

I agree, to not get back to someone you liked enough to interview is maddeningly poor form.

With what you just said, that makes no sense to me. I would either call him out or just go somewhere else. Maybe you could even start going to another place this year and start laying down the ground work for next years sponsor request.

Fishy-fish-aaayy - for deep-fried congealed fat globs that neither taste like or even resemble fish

I figured someone at McDonald's finally realized they could make salable (if not edible) use of whatever bits of 'fish' are left over from normal McDonald's 'fish' activity. (Same with the KFC bites.)

I'm getting a knot in my chest from a certain television ad.

I am very appreciative of all the sacrifices made by military families, but could they perhaps shine the spotlight on another one please?

I get that she is a girl in a small town who has become a soldier, but I think I have seen that spot at least 500 times now.

Why do some people assume everyone has a Sam's club membership? When ever I mention that I'm going to purchase something, someone always seems to come up with "You should go to Sam's club, that's on sale there".

A) I don't have a Sam's club membership because I don't need to purchase, nor to I have room to store, 24 rolls of toilet paper.

B) Sentry is a mile away. Sam's club is 5+ miles away. I'm all about convenience.

edit: On top of this, I hear stories about lines being very long to check out and being treated like you are going through customs when you exit the store. If any of that is true, I have absolutely zero patience for that.

24 rolls of toilet paper isn't a lot. :)

I actually do have a Sam's card, but I don't believe I've ever used it. I don't pay for the thing, so it isn't wasting anything besides space in my wallet. My trips to Sam's have been with others who have memberships.

I don't recall the checkouts being any better or worse than anyplace else. I'd estimate that the check while exiting the store takes about 15 seconds per shopper (if that).

The most important things to keep in mind are that merchandise isn't necessarily cheaper than elsewhere and that you can't use Visa/MasterCard.

What's bugging me is the bathroom shelves I put up over the weekend. Small print directions on the box suggested mounting them into studs. The screw holes in the brackets are 18" apart. What are the chances of finding studs that are 18" apart? They're mounted to the drywall, and that's going to be fine.

Forget Sam's, go to Costco.

I do agree that the cart check at the end is a bit ridiculous. We normally buy 5-6 things per trip, and I hate waiting for people who have 2-3 carts full of stuff. I will admit, we do save money on a quite a bit of items, mainly paper products and cleaning supplies. For us, we easily make the $55/year membership fee back in savings. Plus, I have Costco's American Express card, and I tend to get a lot back from that every year as well.

I just renewed my Sam's membership like two months ago (had let it lapse and one of their salespeople stopped at my business). Haven't used it once yet. I suppose that's silly, but I figure even if we use it one time in the next year, it will pay for itself. Closest location is about 20 miles away, so not super convenient.
