Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2011

I've had plenty of Dippin Dots in my day. It was a great way to get a souvenir helmet bowl. Ever since they started selling the ice cream of the future in a regular paper cup, I stopped buying them.

I just saw the funniest commercial ever. It was for T-Mobile with a bunch of elves loading up phones and stuff on Santa's sleigh.

Anyway, the tagline was the tune of "Walking in a 4G Wonderland!"

But it didn't sound like "4G" to me OR my wife.

Sounded more like "Walking in a Orgy Wonderland!" I kid you not, we're still laughing.

This is more of a random question than a random thought, but I have wondered about this for the last 3 or 4 years and have never asked anyone until now. What are those thin bands that many football players wear (especially at the college level) around their upper arms and/or calves? I can't imagine any possible reason or benefit for wearing those.

Do you mean the band that goes just below a guy's knee?

That's actually a patella strap, and, per Amazon:

Knee Pro-Tec provides compression on the patellar tendon, helping spread

pressure uniformly across the patellar tendon, reducing discomfort and

irritation. This compression may also help stabilize your patella,

improving its tracking. In addition, Knee Pro-Tec absorbs stress to the

knee, reducing vibrations in the femoral groove.

no, I think he means those white bands of what looks, to me, like athletic tape that has twisted up into just a thin strip of tape encircling the arms just below the biceps.

like these: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/index.jpghttp://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/images-2.jpg

and then, I found this: Why do football players wear bicep bands?

Thanks for the link pitchleague, that is kind of what I thought. I can maybe see some sort of purpose for the one in the picture that Baldkin posted (maybe being the operative word in that sentence). However, watching some of the games in recent years, again mostly the college games, I see many players wearing bands that are even thinner than the ones posted in the pictures in pitchleague's post. Some that are no wider than a rubber band or vacuum drive belt.

I saw her name on a list of seniors last year. No idea it was Stalin's daughter, of course. I heard it on the radio this AM and immediately it rang a bell.

Of course I can't tell you what I had for lunch, but...

FYI, her name was Lana, as was a college friend of mine. That's why it sticks out, as well as being on top of the page.

I logged in to BF.net quick from a different work computer. Outside of the IT dept (we all run Firefox or Chrome) all of the computers run IE 7. These forums look horrible.
