Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2012

I believe we are part of a giant being. Atoms look like solar systems. The universe is expanding because our giant being is still growing. The "big bang" was when the sperm penetrated the egg.

I also believe that each of our bodies house innumerable universes and that this stretches on, both up and down, infinitely and without time.

This works with evolution and with creationism. Everybody's right.

I'll never understand why people slow down by those things. Don't they have speedometers in their cars? Or, do they think there is a cop standing right behind the radar sign that is going to run them down?

This is an interesting article about the mental feedback loops that drive these things;

http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/06/ff_feedbackloop/

Just saw this and didn't get a chance to read the entire article...read about 1/3 of it. I guess I don't fall into this group of people. They can't fool me with their Jedi mind tricks.

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

I've never seen it, but it'd be interesting if a digital speed feedback sign were followed up by law enforcement a half mile or a mile down the road.

three random thoughts that came to me, all in the 9th inning of tonight's game:

1) If you join Twitter but just lurk, does that mean instead of "Tweeting" that you are "Sylvestering"?

2) If you can taxidermy animals, how come you can't do it to humans?

3) Why does Axford have to emulate Hoffman so much? First, he listens to the Hall-of-Fame closer to learn tips, watching Hoffman put up an all-star season as closer. Then, Hoffman sucks up the joint and Axford is given his chance and does pretty good. Then Axford leaves the team and Axford puts up an all-star (type of) season as closer. And now, Axford emulates his mentor again by sucking up the joint.

The Ax Man is really doing a hatchet job of pitching this season.

This week's futurama was terrible. The show has been pretty good since coming back(for the most part), but that episode was by far the worst. NOBODY CARES ABOUT LEELA'S FAMILY. A storyline based around Leela, her mom, and Zapp was doomed to failure. The only part i found funny was bender surfing away from the leprechauns.

I woke up to the radio broadcasting the news about the theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. The only people I know who live in that area are a couple I went to college with for one year, back in the day, before I transferred to UW-Madison. I knew they lived in one of the A suburbs of Denver, but couldn't remember if it was Aurora.

So I googled the wife's name, found nothing; googled the husband's name, and found out that they moved to Vermont earlier this year and are now living in a yurt, on property they purchased using funds from the sale of their Colorado home and the separation $ from the husband's recent layoff. They're going to farm the land and live as much off the grid as they can. I just finished reading the blog they are maintaining.

Thus, they definitely weren't in Aurora, Colorado overnight, which is possibly a good thing for multiple reasons. Besides, I was wrong; they'd lived in Arvada.

Absolutely brilliant. Stupid humor is the hardest to pull off.

Humans already pay taxes so they are exempt. Idermy I think is Latin for "pay your share or get stuffed and put on display when you die."

$60 Million Fine

Penn State should just fold the football program for a couple years because they basically have no chance of being competitve in the B10. Well maybe they could beat Indiana. I feel badly for the current players and coaches on that team but damn if that administration didn't really screw up. Just a horrible situation all the way around. To think an entire university was basically brought down because of one sick demented man and the failure of officials to report it. Just call the cops in 1998 and this never would have happened.

On a related note UW will only have to beat out INdiana, Purdue, and Illinois to get into the B10 Championship. Talk about the mother of all cakes walks (assuming they get halfway decent QB play)

I used to have "yurt" in my signature. :) It had something to do with Yuku setting out to build a skyscraper and ending up with a triple-decker yurt.

Does anyone know if the JS prints a full list of results for the Sausage Race 5K? I started running last summer, so this is the first time I've ran it. I try to collect the newspaper results for every race I do, but being from the Fox Valley, it's always the Post Crescent, this is the first non-local race I've done. I can't find the results anywhere on JSOnline so I don't want to go out and buy a copy if it's not in there.

I hate talking about the Brewers anywhere but BF.net. On Saturday here are the random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else that 3 of my friends had about the Greinke trade.

"Why would you trade him for minor leaguers?"

"They traded him for a bunch of nobody's."

"Why did they trade Greinke anyway?"

Overheard yesterday at MP, after the Nats got their leadoff home run:

"We traded Greinke for THIS?"

I mean, the heart of summer weekend + Uecker bobblehead resulted in the baseball crowd equivalent of an Easter/Christmas church congregation (i.e. LOTS of fans who only visit once or twice a year). But man. Facepalm.

But... someone told me Rodgers had just won the MVP.

Adding to the randomness: at Sunday's game I also saw a fan wearing a navy and gold RODGERS 8 football jersey. Took me a bit to figure that out, but indeed, Aaron wore #8 while playing for Cal.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that GAME05 is moving into a yurt. As far as I know, he's the only one of us that has hiked the Appalachian Trail.

good memory. maybe if the yurt had wi-fi.

The coolest 13 year old kid just came in to our shop. He was polite and nicely dressed and wanted nothing other than to wish us a happy 29th anniversary. Very impressive young man. I told him he could work for us when he turned 14. His comment was "Really? Can I get an application?" Got to love today's youth.
