Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2012

Thurston Fluff

What am I missing, where where the old parties on WI Ave that you guys were talking about?

Same area, kind of originating on Van Buren and Water and then just seemed to go endlessly west down WI Ave (at least from what I can remember from 82'). What I'm saying is that if the Brewers were to win the WS or the NLSC, this probably would not happen on WI Ave. It would happen on Water Street. MU going to the Final 4 is different because it's actually on WI Ave and that's were all the students are. I'm pretty sure when the Packers won the Super Bowl there was not a whole lot happening on WI Ave, it was around the bars on Water Street.

Now, if they also had a parade like in 82', then I'm guessing a lot of that would be on WI Ave.

Edit: As I reread your post you said this happened during rush hour?? The Final 4 is determined on a weekend (2 games on Saturday and 2 on Sunday). So, not sure how it could be during "rush hour". Trust me, as someone who works downtown, if this did happen during rush hour you would not have a lot of people getting out of there cars and celebrating with you.

Fwiw, I was driving home from a friend's house after the Packers won SBXLV & Oakland Ave. was not full of people, but the sidewalks were pretty full & spilling out into the street.

It went down to the lake, almost 2 miles, with a parade of students and fans dividing the city up during rush hour and people getting out of their cars to join in.

That's the territory that the Brewers parties covered. I wouldn't call them parades, though. I'd describe the setting as a traffic jam with people milling around between the cars.

Honestly, I have no clue what might have been happening in the downtown bars. It seemed that the real party was outdoors.

Around the Marquette campus, students were offering up champagne to those going by in their cars. People were passing beers from vehicle to vehicle. Horns were honking, and traffic was either stopped or moving very slowly. Drivers routinely parked their cars in the traffic lane and got out. I specifically recall "parking" in the 3rd and Wisconsin intersection and walking across the street to buy a newspaper. That didn't bother anyone. I wasn't the only one who did that.

The only bar I recall visiting was Cesar's near the stadium. The jukebox was playing

in a perpetual loop, and Harvey and Audrey came out and shook hands with fans from across the bar.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Whatever happened to a kickoff in American football being a live ball? All of a sudden I see officials blowing the whistle dead simply for a ball hitting in the end zone and the receiving team make zero attempt to cover the ball, yet the ball doesn't go out of bounds. Is that not a live ball still? This has been driving me crazy for weeks...also seen it in the college game.

That's been the rule in high school football for a number of years. As soon as the kickoff enters the end zone, it's an automatic touchback.

I haven't seen the same thing in college football although they are doing all they can to avoid the head injuries that so often occur during kickoffs. Last season they eliminated wedges on kick returns and this season touchbacks now start at the 25 yard line.

That rule has been around in college for years, you just almost never see guys not catch the kickoff.

In college ball, returners can bring it out of the end zone if they choose to. I recall the playoff game last year between Wofford and Northern Iowa when the Wofford player caught the kickoff in the endzone and simply dropped the ball without downing it. Northern Iowa jumped on the ball and scored the eventual game deciding touchdown. If that was high school ball, the play would have been blown dead as soon as the kickoff broke the plane of the endzone.

I'm pretty sure the college rule is, it is automatically a touchback if it bounces in the endzone without anyone touching it.

We just got our breed test back on our latest dog. Turns out to be 1/2 border collie, 1/4 Lhasa Apso and 1/4 Great Pyrenees. While that is unusual enough it appears they know one parent was pure border and the other was the Lhasa Apso and Pyrenees mix. A Lhasa is 10 to 11 inches tall at the shoulder and weighs 12 to 18 pounds. The Pyrenees is 25 to 32 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh 110–120 pounds...I'm still trying to figure out the logistics on how that is possible.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just read on yahoo that Disney Channel is bring back Boy Meets World with Corey/Topanga married with a kid and Corey as a school teacher.

I think this is officially my first ever "I Feel Old" moment because I loved that show growing up. Even though it would be on Disney Channel I might actually sneak a peek at it if atleast some of the original cast is involved.

It is still on ABC Family every morning from 6-8:30; must be popular enough yet that they think this can be pulled off.

I guess that all depends on what you mean by "regular" posting. Obviously, there are probably several hundred lurkers each and every day but posting is another story.

You have those people that "regularly" post by posting on just about each and every thread they can. You also have people like me, that "regularly" post when they feel like they can contribute but otherwise just lurk for the most part.

It ran from 93-2000, you loved that show growing up and just felt old for the first time? Ouch that hurts. Screw it I'm gonna slam some Geritol and go to bed. After the early bird special at Denny's of course.

I just did a Google search to make sure that Geritol still exists. (It does.) I don't think I've seen a Geritol commercial in decades.

I think you may have given away your advanced years as well. :) Still younger than me but obviously on this site that isn't saying much.

So in the past 2 weeks, Dan Uggla has been one of the top 5 most searched players on Rotoworld's MLB page. Why are so many people interested in Dan Uggla? There are no rumors surrounding his offseason that I'm aware of. So, again I pose the question that is too dumb to ask anywhere else: Why are so many people interested in Dan Uggla?
