Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2012

Thurston Fluff

At Colorado Rockies games, they race a Tooth, Toothpaste, and a Toothbrush.

Seriously.

I thought the racing Pirogi's in Pittsburgh were bad.

Eduardo Rodríguez, who pitched for the Brewers from 1973–78 and for the Royals in 1979, is one of three players to retire with a slugging percentage of 3.000. He tripled in his only major league at bat, in 1973.

1973 was the first year of the DH. The Brewers were up 10–1 in the eighth inning and inserted DH Bobby Mitchell into LF.

In a 1978 game where the Brewers gave up the DH, position players (Bando, Gantner, Buck Martinez) pitched from the 4th inning on. Martinez picked up a hit as a pitcher.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

So the UW-Madison school year is about to start, which means I have to rebuild my student staff at the library. I placed a job center ad and among the responses I got was a letter including this sentence: "If I am hired, there will be no regrets." Youthful bravado or slightly threatening? I guess the author managed to stand out, but is it better in the job market to stand out for oddness?

And if the author happens to be one of you, I am very, very sorry for bringing it up here. ;)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

You'll know if the applicant brings a relish tray to the interview.

If it were me, I would definitely wear my Doug Davis shirsey to the interview.

hawing, I'd chalk that up to nothing more than an odd choice of words.

I love muscadine/scuppernong grapes, and they're really the only solace I take when peach season is finished. But, their seeds are really annoying, as can be their thick skins. It seems like all the best fruits are either he most difficult to eat or prohibitively expensive, or both: cherries, mangoes, scuppernongs, pomegranates, berries, etc...

Come on. You made that one up.

Oh, I know they are a real thing. I just still feel as though that should be a completely made up word.

I'd love to know what was going through the head of the guy who named them when he decided on scuppernong.

Just sounds like something out of Dr Seuss.

A person came into our store, bought some balloons, went home and inflated them with air then called wanting his money back because they didn't float. How can an adult in modern times not know helium is what makes a balloon float? Predictably, when I explained that to him his response was "you should have told me that when I bought them." It really would have been nice to just say "well sir I didn't realize you were a moron," but courtesy prohibits such comments.
There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Wow..just wow. You know, if I posted this it would have been in the "What's bugging me" thread. I would have been very tempted to say, "Am I being recorded? Is this a prank?"

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

Dont know where else to put this. I like to listen to the D-List on AM 540. I guess Dan Needles was arrested for Domestic Disorderly Conduct over the Labor Day weekend. Does anyone know if either WISN or ESPN Milwaukee have made an announcement about how it will affect him professionally i.e. when will he be back on the air?? Listened to the Dlist yesterday, missed the first 15 minutes, but didnt hear any mention of it.

You should be happy it didn't say, "If u hire me, u r going to to be happy u did. LMK." My wife works in HR and she receives letters of interest and emails from candidates with text talk on a regular basis.
