We have a sighting in the "Team Photo" portion of the minor league season's final Baseball America Prospect Hot Sheet.

Hunter Morris, 1b, Brewers: When Corey Hart and Mat Gamel went down with injuries in spring training, the club found itself without a first baseman. It was the perfect opportunity for Morris, who had hit .303/.367/.563 at Double-A Mobile last year, winning the Southern League MVP award. But he went out and hit .115/.179/.269 in spring training. That led the Brewers to decide that Yuniesky Betancourt would be a more appealing first-base option for the big league club. Morris, 24, hasn’t exactly made the Brewers regret that decision. He’s hit only .245/.305/.447 this year, but he is finishing strong, going 14-for-30 (.467) with a homer sand three doubles this week at Triple-A Nashville.

Manatees Media Notes:

CHASING HISTORY: Nick Ramirez has 18 home runs, 1 shy of Hunter Morris’ franchise record of 19 (set in 2011). Ramirez has not homered in 42 games since going long in consecutive contests, 7/12-14...This is the longest stretch of his professional career without a home run.

Congrats to Nick, finally tied the club record tonight.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds kicked off their final homestand of the season with a 3-2 victory over the division-rival Iowa Cubs in front of 5,667 fans on Friday evening at Greer Stadium.

PCL Pitcher of the Year Johnny Hellweg (12-5) turned in a solid final start to close out his first Triple-A season, logging his team-leading 12th quality start to earn the victory. The fireballer allowed two runs on six hits over his six innings of work, walking two batters and striking out five. Hellweg posted a 3.15 ERA in his 23 starts for Nashville this season.

Second baseman Eugenio Velez went 1-for-4 to extend his team-best hitting streak to 19 games and his on-base streak to a league-best 33 consecutive contests.

The visitors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning against Hellweg. Julio Borbon reached on a hustle double on a ball just past second base and later scored on former Sound Brad Nelson's two-out single to right.

The Sounds knotted the score with a two-out knock of their own in the fifth. Josh Prince drew a walk, stole second, and came plateward on Blake Davis' single to right, Nashville's first hit of the night off I-Cubs starter Brooks Raley.

Nelson (2-for-4) drove in his second run of the night for Iowa when he led off the sixth inning with an opposite-field solo homer to left off Hellweg. The slugger's team-leading 20th blast of the year gave the Cubs a short-lived 2-1 advantage.

Nashville quickly took its first lead of the night in the home half of the frame, plating a pair off Iowa reliever Marcus Hatley.

Velez got things started with an infield single and scored when Robinzon Diaz followed with a game-tying triple to the wall in left-center. Sean Halton put the home club in front, 3-2, with an RBI single to right.

Hatley (2-2) drew the loss after suffering a blown save, allowing two runs in his lone frame of action.

Jesus Sanchez followed Hellweg with two scoreless frames of relief before Dustin Molleken took over in the ninth. The right-hander allowed a two-out single before retiring Luis Flores on a game-ending flyout to earn his first save of the year.

The teams continue the series with a 6:35 p.m. meeting on Saturday evening. Right-hander Jimmy Nelson (4-6, 3.94) will make the start for the Sounds and face Iowa right-hander Yoanner Negrin (4-6, 4.06).

Final: Jackson 8 Huntsville 5

The Stars limited the Jackson Generals to scoring in only 1 inning tonight. Unfortunately, the Generals scored 8 runs in that inning en route to an 8-5 victory Friday night at The Joe. Starter Andy Moye, thanks to a couple double plays, had thrown 3 scoreless innings when the Generals got to him in the 4th. Moye (6-15, 4.25) was tagged with 5 of the 8 Jackson runs. For the night, Moye finished with 3 1/3 innings, 5 runs, all earned, on 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out only 1. Moye threw 68 pitches, 33 for strikes and finished with a 2-4 GO/FO ratio. Not the way Andy wanted to finish the season.

Casey Medlen was brought in to try and get out of the 4th. He finally did, but only after allowing 3 inherited runners to score and 3 more of his own. Medlen pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs, all earned on 2 hits and a walk while striking out 2. Frankie De La Cruz came on and threw an effective 2 innings of relief. De La Cruz didn't allow any runs. He did give up 2 hits and a walk while striking out 2. Arcenio Leon pitched a scoreless 8th, allowing a hit. Finally, Arizona Fall League bound Kevin Shackelford pitched a 1-2-3 ninth striking out 1. Shackelford's ERA with the Stars is now below 1 at 0.99.

Huntsville Box Score

Offensively, the Stars broke out, scoring 5 runs. It was their largest output since scoring 7 on August 7th. Left fielder Micah Owings finally had a good day at the plate. Owings went 3-4 with an RBI to pace the Stars. Right fielder Rene Tosoni added 2 hits, going 2-4 with a double, a run scored, and an RBI. Brock Kjeldgaard broke the tie at the top of the home run leaderboard by smacking his 23rd on the season. He also walked and scored twice. First baseman Jason Rogers didn't homer, but did hit his 23rd double on the season and scored a run. Chadwin Stang had the Stars other hit. Catcher Shawn Zarraga was officially 0-1 at the plated, but he drew a walk, was hit by a pitch, laid down a sacrifice and scored a run, so a busy night for him, despite the quiet line in the box score.

When you see a box score for the TRats game tonight you would think that the team's offense stunk. Wrong. They scorched the ball all over the park yet they kept hitting the ball right at the Bandits' players. Honestly...it was almost comedic.

River Bandits shutout Rattlers; Eliminate Wisconsin from playoff chase

Rattlers get swept in three game series by Quad Cities

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers were shutout 6-0 by the Quad Cities River Bandits in the final game of the 2013 season at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium on Friday night. The loss eliminated the Timber Rattlers from the playoff race.

Quad Cities (79-56 overall, 41-25 second half) had runners on the corners with no outs in the top of the third inning. Rattlers starting pitcher Rodolfo Fernandez gave up a leadoff single to Tony Kemp and Teoscar Hernandez dropped a bunt for a single. An ill-advised throw by Fernandez was wild to first and that allowed Kemp to go to third base. Fernandez got Carlos Correa to ground into a 6-4-3 double play, but Kemp scored from third base for a 1-0 lead.

Fernandez got the first two outs in the top of the fourth inning. Then, a walk, an error, and another walk loaded the bases for the River Bandits. Fernandez hit Hernandez to force in a run. Correa followed with a two-run single to right on an 0-2 pitch. Terrell Joyce was next and singled to left to drive in the final run of the inning. That gave Quad Cities a 5-0 lead.

Wisconsin (59-73, 30-37) couldn't score against Zach Morton, the Quad Cities starter who was making his first Midwest League start. Morton tossed four scoreless innings before turning the game over to the Bandits bullpen.

Quad Cities added another run in the eighth inning off reliever Mike Strong. Hernandez doubled with two outs and Correa drove him home with a single to center.

Strong struck out nine over five innings of relief, but the damage had been done.

Plus, Wisconsin couldn't cross the plate. Mitchell Lambson took over for Morton and tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. JD Osborne came on in the bottom of the eighth and tossed two scoreless innings to end the game.

The Clinton LumberKings defeated the Peoria Chiefs 4-2 at Dozer Park in Peoria, Illinois on Friday night. The win coupled with Wisconsin's loss allowed the LumberKings to clinch the second half Western Division Wild Card.

Chris McFarland had two hits to lead the Timber Rattlers offense. All five of Wisconsin's hits in the game came with two outs and they got just one runner to third base in the game. Friday was the seventh time the Rattlers have been shutout in 2013 and they finished the home portion of their schedule at 30-37.

The Timber Rattlers begin their final road trip of the season on Saturday night when they face the Burlington Bees at Community Field in Burlington, Iowa. Tyler Wagner (10-8, 3.26) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Bees send Tyler DeLoach (5-5, 3.44) to the bump. Game time is 6:30pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:10pm.

Final: Daytona 11, Brevard County 6

Manatees blasted by Cubs, 11-6

Ramirez ties Brevard's single-season homer record in loss

By Andy Towne / Brevard County Manatees

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/1/3/4/53846134/cuts/Ramirez_4.7_7t82f5hc_bubp5q7p.JPG

Manatees first baseman Nick Ramirez, seen here in a game from earlier this season, went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Brevard County's 11-6 loss to the Daytona Cubs on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona Beach. The fifth inning homer for Ramirez was his 19th of the season and tied Brevard County's single-season record, which was set in 2011 by Hunter Morris. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography)

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Nick Ramirez tied the Brevard County Manatees' single-season home run record on Friday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, but it was the Daytona Cubs' five long balls that resulted in an 11-6 loss for the 'Tees.

Ramirez pounded a two-run shot in the fifth inning for his 19th home run of the year, tying the Manatees' (28-37 second half, 65-67 overall), record set by Hunter Morris in 2011. That homer made it a 6-4 ballgame, with a two-run double from Ramriez tying the game in the seventh.

Daytona (39-19, 74-50) broke the tie in the bottom of the eighth in a big way as the Cubs belted three homers off of Santo Mazanillo in the frame. Manzanillo did not record an out and was charged with five runs in all.

Solo shots from Kris Bryant in the third inning and Dustin Geiger in the bottom of the fifth helped build up Daytona's lead that was eventually erased by Ramirez, but it was big flies from Bijan Rademacher, Pin-Chieh Chen and Zeke DeVoss in the eighth that put Daytona over the top.

D'Vontrey Richardson provided another offensive spark for the 'Tees, as he led the game off with a triple and fell a homer shy of the cycle. He scored in the first inning on a Yadiel Rivera groundout to put Brevard on the board first.

The lead didn't last long for the Manatees though, as Daytona answered back with four runs in the bottom of the frame off of Brent Suter (7-10, 3.63 ERA).

After a leadoff double from Zeke DeVoss, Suter issued before he got the first out. Another walk forced in a run, before Rademacher singled and a fielding error by Ben McMahan allowed another run to come across.

Suter would settle down and finished with five strikeouts in five innings, with all three of his walks and two of the five hits that he allowed coming in the first.

Datyona starter Ivan Pineyro tossed five frames and left in line for the win, despite surrendering four runs. He did recorded five strikeouts and allowed five hits, including the Ramirez home run, with two walks.

Brevard County will host its final home game of the season at Space Coast Stadium on Saturday night at 6:35 p.m. Chad Pierce (5-6, 3.51 ERA) will get the start for the Manatees and will face-off against Pierce Johnson (6-1, 2.22 ERA) of the Cubs.

Quintana Rebounds as Brewers Sweep

Helena cruises to 11-3 win in final game with Osprey

By Zac Vierra / Helena Brewers

Although Zach Quintana did not factor in the decision, his start might have been the most encouraging aspect of Helena's win on Friday. After three straight rocky outings, Quintana bounced back with four quality innings and the Brewer offense did the rest as Helena cruised to an 11-3 victory over Missoula.

Quintana (photo below by Seth Eikomstead) allowed just one run on two hits in the game. He struck out four and walked a pair.

"A very solid performance, throwing strikes, getting ahead in the count, and giving his defense a chance to play behind him and that's the one thing we have been preaching to him all year, 'give your defense a chance to play behind you,' and he did a good job of it tonight," said Helena skipper Tony Diggs.

Not only did the outing assist the Brewers on Friday, it also proved how valuable the right-hander could be with the Pioneer League playoffs on the horizon.

"You are still not looking past any game that we have to finish the season…but to get him back in a position where he is starting to get a little bit more feel for it, that's always good," said Diggs.

The Brewer offense also had a strong night from the beginning.

With two outs in the first inning the Brewers jumped on Missoula starter Justin Van Grouw. Michael Ratterree started the rally with a walk and Adam Giacalone followed with a single to left. Taylor Brennan would then smoke a single to right and Ratterree scored when the throw home was off the mark.

With runners on first and second, Jalen Harris sliced a ball into the corner in right field. Giacalone and Brennan scored and Harris was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a triple, but the damage was done as the Brewers took a 3-0 lead.

"They came out ready to swing the bats. We got some good balls to hit in the zone and they did a good job connecting with them," said Diggs.

Up 4-1, Helena would break the game open in the bottom of the fourth. Harris walked to lead off the frame, advanced to second on a grounder, and moved to third when Jack Cleary hit a bullet up the middle. Harris would score the fourth Helena run when Van Grouw committed a balk.

After Nathan Orf reached on a double, Dionis Hinojosa hit a grounder to first. The first baseman Ryan Kinsella went to his right but bobbled the ball and his throw to first was wild allowing Cleary and Orf to score.

Ratterree would then crush a triple to the deepest part of the ballpark in center as Hinojosa scored and the Brewers took a 7-1 lead.

The Osprey would grab a pair of runs in the top of the seventh off Juan Santiago, but the Brewers would take advantage of an error that should have ended the bottom of the seventh as Omar Garcia hit a bases clearing triple into the left-center gap to make it 10-3.

Cleary would add an RBI single in the eighth, his third hit in his first game with Helena, and Tanner Poppe would pitch the final two innings to finish the game out.

Santiago earned his fourth win of the season after allowing two runs (one earned) in three innings.

Giacalone and Cleary led the 12-hit attack with three base knocks apiece.

It was the eighth win in a row at home for the Brewers as they finished off the season series with Missoula with a sweep of a two-game set with the Osprey.

Blash, Big Inning Powers Generals over Stars

By Alex Cohen / Huntsville Stars

On Friday night, the Stars fell victim of the big inning and lost to the Jackson Generals by a score of 8-5 in game two of a five-game series at Joe Davis Stadium.

Despite taking the loss, the Stars got off to the early start against Jackson starting pitcher James Gillheeney (W, 7-7).

Following a leadoff walk by outfielder Brock Kjeldgaard in the bottom of the second inning, an RBI double from outfielder Rene Tosoni put the Stars on the board. One batter later, a throwing error by Generals infielder Ramon Morla on a single by outfielder Micah Owings plated Tosoni to make the score 2-0.

Unfortunately for the Stars, that would not be enough of a lead to compensate for the Generals offensive output in the top of the fourth inning. Sending 11 batters to the plate, Jackson tacked on each of their eight runs during the frame, highlighted by a historic performance by outfielder Jabari Bash.

After hitting a leadoff homer to begin the inning off of starting pitcher Andy Moye (L, 6-15), Bash stepped up to the plate during his second at-bat of the frame and hit a grand slam against Stars reliever Casey Medlen. Overall, the two homers for Bash on the inning accounted for five of the Generals runs.

Aside from Bash, Jackson got a bases-loaded walk from shortstop Chris Taylor, an RBI single by outfielder Leon Landry and an RBI double from outfielder Denny Almonte for the other three runs. The eight runs in the frame were the most against the Stars in any single inning this season.

In regards to the Stars offense, they got an RBI single from Owings and a sacrifice fly from third baseman Joey Paciorek in the eighth inning as well as a solo homer from Kjeldgaard in the ninth inning as their only other runs on the night. For Kjeldgaard, the homer was his second in as many nights, giving him a league-leading 23 roundtrippers on the season.

To headline their eight-hit output, Owings led the offensive attack with three hits himself. Coming into the game, the former big league hurler turned hybrid-player was just 2-for-31 at the plate in a Stars uniform.

For the Stars, the loss was their fifth straight overall and fifth in a row against the Generals dating back to their last series at The Ballpark at Jackson in late July.

On Saturday, the Stars will play game three of a five-game series against the Jackson Generals at Joe Davis Stadium. Huntsville will send RHP Taylor Jungmann (6-14, 4.00 ERA) while Jackson will counter with LHP Anthony Fernandez (9-7, 4.26 ERA). First pitch is 6:43 ET.
