Not at all the offenses fault. Scoring distribution doesn't matter, they gave the staff 5 runs in 9 innings, and handed their (supposed) all star closer a 2 run lead. It seems more often than not anymore, Cordero insists on putting runners on the corners with less than 2 outs.

Cordero is good at his job,but i do wonder why he doesn't throw his fastball more than he does.He had little command of his slider most of that inning and in his other blown saves, yet he almost seems a bit scared to rely on his fastball more than he does.

It's odd to me given he throws 95 and generally keeps it on the corners.

Cordero had a 5.56 ERA in June (small sample, yes) coming into today, so it's going to get a whole lot worse when the stats update. Not exactly a stellar month to cap off his all star resume.

I remember the 2nd half performance of the last Brewers closer selected to the all star game.....http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

These are the kind of losses that make me mad at my own team. Of all the games to blow a 5 run lead and give up a come from behind walkoff in the 9th, did you really have to do it against the freaking Cubs? I mean, really, come on, you've got good fans here in Wisconsin, don't do this crap to us!

I am devestated by this loss. I really have no words to explain how depressed I am right now. I fear that this is going to set off another one of those streaks for the team. Tomorrow is the biggest game of the year in my opinion. We desperately need Ben to be stellar and we just have to win this game. This is by far the worst loss of the season. I just want to cry from a game like this.

I am so angry.

1. Why didn't Yost use Shouse against Fontenot? (no I'm not blaming him for the loss.)

2. I do in fact lay blame on the offense. It's hard to go 8 innings against relievers and not score.

3. Cordero has not looked good lately and I am starting to worry. His slider has been missing. Served a melon to Ramirez, good job.

sigh.

Sweet, does that apply to everything? Can I shower my wife with gifts in January and then ignore her the other 11 months? Can I be super productive the first hour at work then slack off until closing time? I just don't see how anyone could be happy with 8 innings of failure. EIGHT STRAIGHT INNINGS OF FAILURE!!!!!!!

Just 'cos you're great in a short span of time doesn't give you a free pass to suck for the other 90% of the time.

If you score 5 in the first, you gotta tack on. It's only 5 runs, not 45 runs.

Cordero IS starting to be a concern. He's 27 for 30 now, or 90% in save opportunities. Still very good, but no longer as dominant as earlier this season. His ERA is starting to creep up around 3.00, and I no longer feel as confident when he comes in with a 9th inning lead. The worst part about seeing him blow todays safe is seeing him do it against the Cubs.

He's definitely starting to put a dent into his big FA deal next year, and I for one am glad we didn't decide to get a deal done a month ago and throw $11 million a year at him for 4 years.

Cordero career ERA: 3.25

Cordero 2007 ERA: 2.91

He's just being Francisco Cordero. If you expected him to carry an ERA of 1.50 or something all year, you haven't followed him too closely.

Tomorrow is the biggest game of the year in my opinion.

Man, people freak out about one game. Chill. They're all worth the same amount. It doesn't matter when you win them, or if you do it in streaks. The Brewers are the best team in the division, and over 162 games that fact will come to pass.

I think you're looking for the silver lining thread.

I guess I'll finally throw $.02 into the vent thread. This loss is really bugging me, not because they gave up those 6 runs, but because they couldn't do anything to add any insurance. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Brewers do something similar to this against the Cubs last year? Put up a big number early and then slowly let it evaporate into a walk-off situation for the Cubs?

Maybe its not the loss thats bugging me as much as the Cubs fans are. I'm over on a Phish message board trying to defend the Brewers to a bunch of morons. All they keep talking about is how the Crew is worried about the Cubs creeping up on them and that Milwaukee is too young to be playing this well and will come crashing back down to earth. All of us know that this stuff is mostly false but coming from the Cubs fans it drives me nuts. Most of the Brewers fans that I know have been pretty even tempered about the season whereas the Cubs fans I know were writing them off completely last week and are now talking about the playoffs since they have gotten to the magical .500 mark.

Oh yeah, one last thing...Bruce Froemming was absolutely terrible and inconsistent today. I am starting to hate the umpiring at this level...these guys are starting to think that they are bigger than the game. You are gonna hear it back there from time to time, be the bigger man and let it go in one ear and out the other...quit following players and talking/yelling to them after they have turned to go back to the dugout. If a guy goes nuts and over the top, fine, throw him out and be done with it. If you ring a guy up on a questionable pitch and he lets you know about it with a few words before going to the dugout, let it go and move on.

Sorry, it was my first vent and I had some pent up stuff to get off of my chest. Thank you for giving me the forum to do so.

I am STILL ticked off. Yeah, we lost. yeah, we still have a large lead in the division. We lost to the Cubs though and -that- my friends drives me up a wall. I hate that team more than any team in any sport anywhere. I hate them so much it effects my mood when they beat us. I hate them. I hate them. I hate them.

I'd be lying if I said it didn't put me in a foul mood as well... but then I got word that a former co-worker of mine has terminal cancer, it it put things into perspective.

But yeah, this game was a festering bowl of dog snot.

[ Sorry to hear that Brian. ]

I wasn't all that close to him... had only a few meetings with him, but it's still a very sobering thing.... especially when he's probably just like 35 years old.

The point is that we should celebrate the good things in life (a Brewers win) and not sweat the small stuff (a Brewers loss).

But by all means, if it helps ya'll be in a better mood after you leave the site so you can enjoy your Friday evening, vent vent vent.

A number of drinks and a lobster dinner have still not made my mood any better; this loss just bugs the tar out of me. And I couldn't even let out a loud, soul-cleansing curse when Ramirez hit the HR because my daughter was in the car with me.

Man, I hate baseball somedays. I'm going to go watch Schindler's List and try to put this all in perspective.
