2007 Vent Thread, Part 4

saget

"I mean...you thought that LINEUP was dumb. Hell, wait until I send Prince from first base on a 3-2 pitch to Jenkins. Ha! I did it again!!"

Thanks Bruce -- that cheered me up -- Kudos to Brian as well for that angry baby picture.

What pissed me off about that play, was that I had to try to explain it to my wife -- she said the following 3 things.

1.) You know Jenks is going to K

2.) It's a given Prince is slow

3.) Mench is slow and going to do something stupid like reach his arms up and let the catcher tag him on his arms, instead of trying to avoid the tag.

Then of course Ned is storming around in the dugout as if he is angry that, those 3 events didn't work to his advantage.

Getting Yosted hurts, owwie.

My personal highlight from the night was when my girlfriend woke up from her nap, looked at the TV to see it 4-0 and said "Suppan was really worth the 10 million, awesome." And she fell right back asleep in about 30 seconds without saying another word. Haha

Sadly, FTJ, we all may think Yost couldn't possibly do anything dumber without doing it on purpose, yet we all know we'll be proven wrong at some point.

I mean, at least most of the time I've gotten mad at Yost it was for stuff that was at least remotely defensible. I can usually think of a couple of at least passable reasons for a move I think is bad. This time, I got nothing.

Sure, Fielder could score from first on a gapper, but are we really worried about that here? The odds of Jenkins hitting a gapper are a helluva lot worse than the odds of Jenkins either walking or striking out, and Fielder running accomplishes us nothing in any situation except an infield grounder or a gapper. Not to mention that it probably would have taken a defensive misplay for Fielder to score even on a gapper because the outfield was playing Jenkins pretty deep.

The risk was WAY too high for any reward. I'm shocked the manager didn't realize this. Actually, I'm not shocked at all.

That's funny. I thought the Brewers were in first place. Doesn't matter how you're playing right now. It only matters who played the best over an entire season. And that's still the Crew to this point.

So you don't believe in trends and the fact that a very decent-sized sample of recent performance can be an indicator of what to expect in the months ahead? Those worried about the latest trends have every right to vent.

GABP has been a house of frustration for the Brewers for a long time.

You could say this about almost any road park. GABP, PNC, anything on the west coast. At some point it just feels lame to excuse losses on the road with multiple "house of horrors" explanations.

Quote:
A win tomorrow yields a split. Then find a way to split in St Louis and the roadtrip is a success.

While a .500 winning percentage away from home is a great goal for a season, the Brewers' record on the road for 2007 is too far below .500 to make split road series at this point a success (especially against bad teams ... Reds? Cardinals? "Success" at .500? In a pennant race with the Cubs breathing down our necks?)

The simple fact is that tonight one Red got it done in one AB with the bases juiced. The Brewers had two such ABs and didn't get it done.

And it just feels like there's been a bunch of this lately. Vent-worthy, in my opinion.

Give Ned Yost credit.

Every time we get on him for doing something dumb, he finds a way to out-do himself.

hahaha, that was really funny. what tricks does he have in his bag today?

I would say "most recent poorly managed game" -- otherwise July 8th says hello.

Oh, I don't think July 8 even comes remotely close to that joke last night.

If you think July 8 was a colossal blunder, then you must be convinced that Ned was screwing up on purpose last night. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

If I thought he was that capable, to screw up on purpose, maybe you would be right. I thought on July 8th he was trying to screw up the rest of the season though.

To each his own I suppose, I vented about it on firenedyost -- so I feel somewhat vindicated. -- I am petty in that regard.

Here's my vent...

The vent thread is almost exclusively filled with disgust and venom -- which is what it's intended for. Yet the silver lining thread is peppered with sarcasm and backhanded "silver linings" like "at least we won't have to buy playoff tickets" and "player X is doing well, too bad everybody else sucks". Why bother even having that thread?

Reminder... for the first time in a looooooooooong time, we've got a team in a legitimate pennant race at the trade deadline. And, oh by the way, they're still in 1st place with the 2nd best record in the NL. And the team challenging us is still the Cubs.

I'm old enough to remember those teams in my childhood from '78-'83. Every single one of those years was a blast to follow a team that you knew could win every night out. Those are the teams that made me a Brewers fan. I believe this team comes much closer to resembling those teams than the one-year wonders of '87 and '92. This team is legit. And this manager is not Buck Rodgers.

My advice... some of you guys need to enjoy the journey a little bit more than it appears that you are.

I'm almost certain that tomorrow Graffanino will be playing 1st base and Prince will be sitting.

Hey, you nailed it, JohnBriggs.

I hate Yost with the fury of all the curse words you're not allowed to say on this forum. Yosted again.

Luckily we have a sizable lead in the division.

Everyone needs a day off from time-to-time, and while I didn't really like Hart, Hardy and Braun all getting yesterday off at the same time, I can't really argue with giving Fielder today off.

Fielder has played in every game but one so far this year, and with there being a lefty on the mound today and Milwaukee having four games the next three days, now is as good a time as any to give him a break.

If we don't come back in this, our record since May 9th drops to 32-36. That's pathetic.

I don't know how I, or anyone can really defend Ned or say he's done a good job with that kind of record over essentially the last half-season.

We haven't had to deal with any more injury issues than any other contender. Melvin has graced Yost with an absolute great deal of talent in the rotation, bullpen, and lineup.

If Yost has with a pitching staff that includes Gallardo and Sheets for most of the season, a pen with Cordero, Turnbow, Wise, and Villanueva, and a lineup with Hardy, Hart, Braun, and Fielder, with a good hitting catcher in Estrada, and he still can't take us to at least a wild card berth, he needs to go, because he's not going to take us there at all.

This team should not fail to get to the playoffs this year. Not with the talent they have.

Yost diluting our offense on back-to-back days, when our offense is already struggling bad, when we're on the road where we're afwul, when the second place team keeps inching closer, when we're less than two weeks away from a four-day all-star break, when neither game is being pitched by Sheets or Yo .... is inex-freakin-scusable.
