2007 Vent Thread, Part 6

adambr2

On the way home a certain song was on that basically symbolizes how I feel about this team...

"There she goes...There she goes again."

I was at the game tonight and if there is one thing that I learned its that Dillon could probably play better catcher than Estrada and even possibly show a little more hustle. That guy is easy to root for.

This season is a hard one to swallow. I guess all you can say is that there is still next year. That's how its been all my life.

I was at the game too...my dad and I were trying to come up with a word to describe the team tonight and the word we came up with was "listless." I can't remember when I've had less fun at a Brewers game than tonight.

And I can't believe they gave Gallardo a wild pitch on that instead of giving Estrada a passed ball. Hey Johnny...catchers occasionally move their arms and legs in an effort to catch the ball.

The Cubs lost again.

Normally this is better than free beer and pizza, but I've now come to expect it and every Cubs loss is followed by the inevitable mention of the *still* 1.5 game lead which now only serves as a reminder of just how pathetic the Brewers have also become in recent weeks.

There are at least 9 AL teams that would immediately be favorites to win this division if they swapped places with the Pirates today.

Remember after our first losing streak, when fans were panicking and getting upset, and Yost arrogantly announced that we didn't know anything, that we had never been in this position before, so we were just freaking out, and don't really know about the game of baseball, but he knew they'd get it turned around sooner or later?

Still waiting on that, Ned.

I agree. I felt the same way last night. Estrada, IMO, is the worst defensive catcher in baseball. He can't throw anybody out, he is overweight and has no mobility... one can wonder how much effect his pitch calling has had on a staff that was supposed to be way better last year. I'd actually love to see the splits about how the pitchers perform when Estrada starts versus when Miller starts. Anyone willing to take that up?

I have to go to work, but when's the last time there's been a day where we won and the Cubs lost? It seems like forever. But it was probably Friday or Saturday.

I don't know I'm tired and irritated because we're only four games above .500 and it's not getting any prettier.

"I can't remember when I've had less fun at a Brewers game than tonight."

I haven't been to a game since the Crew came out here to NYC to play the Mets back in May, but I can relate. I can't remember when I've had less fun following the Brewers than the past week or two. At the start of the season, if you'd have told me that I'd be saying that in mid-August, and the Crew would have sole possession of first place, I would have stuck my foot in a time machine to kick my future self in the groin, but nevertheless, it's true.

If they take an early lead, I wait for them to blow it. Conversely, if they fall behind, I surrender all hope of a comeback. As was perfectly illustrated by the past two nights vs. the Cards.

Since the All Star break this team has been like a dying man, begging to be put out of his misery - and the competition has been too inept to oblige. For my own mental health, I've backed off a bit, but even from a distance it's painful.

The starting pitching over the past few weeks has been ungodly awful. I mean, these are big league pitchers, right? Somebody almost HAS to pitch a good game at some point, don't they? Ugh.

Right now one watches the Brewers with a morbid sense of fascination. It's a train wreck on a daily basis. I have to give all the credit in the world to those of you who can follow this mess closely without getting upset. You're definitely more mentally healthy than I am. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smokin.gif

Ajay's list was right on the money. I would rather have a .220 hitting catcher like Brad Ausmus over Estrada. At least he makes an effort to play defense.

There is no spark on this team. There was a flare hit by Eckstein last night that I thought Hart could have made more effort to catch. It would have been an outstanding, possible #1 web gem catch. But, my point is that if you are fighting for first at this time of the year, you have to play every out like it's the last out of the World Series. I don't see that type of play coming from the Brewers right now.

I don't think the Cardinals have a whole lot more talent than the Brewers right now, but they are sure playing with a lot more confidence. The veteran experience of guys like Rolen, Edmonds, and Eckstein are really paying off for them right now.

All you have to do is watch the Cardinals to know what's wrong with the Brewers. The Cardinal hitters actually take some swings designed to hit singles. The Brewer hitters to a man, swing for the fences on every swing.

While the Brewers are playing Home Run Derby, the Cardinals are playing baseball. It's as simple as that.

Every single swing!! It is starting to get embarrassing.

My problem with the team right now is they look completely dispassionate. This is a reflection of the manager, Ned Yost. I need only go to last night for an example, when Ned was shown on camera giving a mercy clap with a bogus look on his face after Bill Hall hit his HR. I can't wait for Ned Yost to be out of the dugout, his style and vibe are KILLING this team.

Does anyone have any hope of the Brewers winning today? It's almost like a win, especially against a team like the Cards, would be a major accomplishment. Maybe there should be a ticker tape parade down WI ave if they win today.http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/grin.gif

It a pathic shame that this team is the worst division in Baseball can"t pull away from the Cubs or Cards. This team just horrible after the Break and looks like they have no clue how to win.

Just think if they didn"t go 24-10 where the hell would we be.

Hey Pitchers maybe you can Pitch 6 Quality innings at least twice a week to give us a shot.

Its not so much losing thats the problem with this team, its the way they are losing right now that is driving me up the wall. The entire Colorado series and the last two games against the Cards have shown that this team has very little fight in them. Maybe dropping down to second place is the best thing for them...there they can actually reassess things and have something to actually chase after.

Now for the venting...

I am almost convinced that Johnny Estrada is killing this team. The only reason he has a job is because he has a high BA, but that is just a aberration considering the fact that the man can make any pitch look like a strike. He defense, both behind the plate and in the running game, are absolutely pathetic. Most importantly, he calls a horrible game. Catchers need to be the most cerebral players on the field and Johnny does not strike me as someone who is a cerebral type player. Certainly its not all his fault that a single pitcher can't get through the sixth inning, but don't think for a second that he isn't part of the problem there. Bottom line is if Johnny was that good of a catcher and a teammate, this would not be his fourth team in seven years.

"Cappy's an all-star," said Yost, referring to Capuano earning a spot on the NL all-star staff last year and ignoring the fact he is 6-18 with a 5.20 ERA in 36 starts since.

"He needs to get himself back on track. If he gets himself back on track, he's going to be a huge bonus for us. I'm more than willing to give him more than a little leeway right now to try to work himself out of this."

Ned Yost in a nutshell. Cappy hasn't been an all-star since the 1st half of last season and as the numbers state, has been plain awful since. Good to see he's giving him a "little" (little = 3 months) leeway as the season slips away. Sure, there aren't many options, but anybody, ANYBODY would be better....David Wells, Zach Jackson, whoever. Good to know now that with Cappy starting Sunday the cap for wins on this homestand is set at 3....and they'll be lucky to win 2. Can't wait to cash in that "huge bonus." I've got some for Doug Melvin too...it seems that not much has been mentioned about the Luis Castillo to the Mets deal that quietly went down. The Mets got an all-star 2nd basemen for a couple of mid-level minor league prospects.....where were the Brewers when this deal was going down?? It's not like the brass didn't know that Rickie was in the tank at that point, did they really think Graffanino was the everyday answer? Now he's hurt, Rickie still can barely bat .200, and second is a gaping offensive hole. Melvin missed the boat on that one, and nobody seems to care.

But will it really matter? No. As I stated over a week ago, the starting rotation right now is the worst in the league. That was statistically confirmed in the JS this morning. People keep saying they need to hold out until Sheets comes back, but that they're just reaching. Even if he comes back as scheduled (I'm not convinced he will), it will take him 2-3 starts to shake off the rust, just like it did last year. That should leave us with about two weeks of the regular season left, or maybe 3 more starts. In other words, even if Sheets does return to form, it will be too late. Also as predicted earlier, don't be surprised if the Brewers finish 3rd, and under .500 to boot. What do we do with Ned then? In a perfect world.....

Every time I come on here and gripe they rattle off a couple wins, so hopefully that trend continues today. As you might suspect however, I'm not too optimistic.

Although it is going to suck big time, I fully expect the Brewers to finish in 3rd and under .500. The roller coaster season is about to fly off the track. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/tired.gif

I'm confused by this post...are you seeking congratulations for calling something that hasn't happened yet? People have been thinking this team is done since late June.
