2007 Vent Thread, Part 6

I think what aggravates me just as much is that no matter how bad we do, I can't vent without hearing someone come back with the "Everything is fine, we are in first place" approach. Not specifically saying anybody or meaning that to apply to anyone here on the board, just in general, I don't know how people can act like what is going on is acceptable!

I am not a big Fan of Ned But geez this staff has really stunk they can"t go 5 without imploding.

what this team needed was a few Veterans to carry the Youngsters man to bad Koskie was not able to come Back.

Nice to see Jenks get hot when everyone else goes cold.

this is a scared team without question.

This team is playing just about what everyone expected a 500 ball club no better.

This team is just horrible again in the second half of the season.

i also think Mike Maddux should get as much as the blame as people want to put on yost.

This Staff should be ashamed can even go 5 innings of decent pitching.

the brewers look like what they are a young immature team.

Since the comeback against Hamels, our pitching is giving up nearly 9 runs a game.

 

Is there such a thing as anti-momentum?

 

I never, ever imagined, with as much talent as I thought our pitching staff had and as much depth we had in the minors, thought our pitching would be this abysmal this year. Never. By the way, we've now given up 10 more runs than we've scored this year.

This team is playing just about what everyone expected a 500 ball club no better.

This team is just horrible again in the second half of the season.

i also think Mike Maddux should get as much as the blame as people want to put on yost.

This Staff should be ashamed can even go 5 innings of decent pitching.

I'll check the Predictions thread, but I'm pretty sure the average prediction was better than 81-81 this year.

The Brewers need a slumpbuster really bad. Any chance we can get Mimi from the Drew Carey show to "help the players?"

Not to add insult to injury, and i know its a small sample at this point, but we traded away a nice assortment of young arms for a pitcher we cant even get into games in situations he excels at. I'm sure Linebrink could help this team tremendously, but the crew right now cant put him in a position to help. Here's the small sample so far for what we gave up:

1.24 era, 2-1 record, 20 k's and 2 walks, good ratio, and every start at least 7 innings, we can barely get 5 out of ours.

 

I know, again its a small sample, and the competition is no where near what the crew is facing, but at this point, considering we cant even reap the benefits of the player we got in return, i'd say we got "Melvined". I hope in October i can look back at this post and criticize myself for underestimating the impact that Linebrink had on this team.

It's pissing me off the ways Ned Yost gets bashed. I do my fair share of questioning some of his decisions, but the things that people blame him for are ridiculous. For example, on 1250 the past couple days I've heard it was Ned's fault for Hall's struggles becuase he put him batting cleanup and put to much pressure on him. Also that in our 12-4 lost yesterday where cappy stunk the reason we lost was becuase of the batting order change. People bash him for putting in a reliever who's done great and then has one bad outing. I'm getting pretty tired of it.

You know what Terrace, I somewhat agree with you on that. We can all blame the manager after every loss, but somewhere down the line a player needs to stand up and be held accountable for their losses. Not one player is talking and swallowing his pride and says, "I am not doing well, it is my fault." The whole dang team is as mute as possible after every loss, no one is saying anything, no one is holding themselves accountable for their poor play.

Back in the day when Marquis Grissom stunk it up in Milwaukee he once stated, "I know I stink. The fans know I stink."

I would have more respect for a player if he would actually tell it like it is right now, even if it means putting themselves on the line.

I am indifferent on Ned Yost right now because of his lineup changes and all... but there comes a time where the players have to speak for the team through their examples on the field.

Not one player is speaking up and willing to be the sacrificial lamb for this team right now.

I don't even know where to begin . . .

 

This team still can't win on the road.

This team still can't do anything at the plate besides homeruns

This team always melts down in the second half

This team always chokes with runners in scoring position

This team still has trouble hitting to the opposite field

This team still stinks at PNC Park despite playing lousy Pirates teams

This team regulary blows huge leads

This team always shuts down after some early scoring

This team never bunts when the other pitcher is mowing them down

This team never does any hit and run plays

This team still strikes out a lot and fails to execute

The entire pitching staff decides to fall apart all at the same time

The bench is completely worthless

Joe Dillon is still not getting starts even though he makes contact and hits the other way.

Despite an MVP season from Fielder, this team is barely over .500

Despite adding a monster hitter like Ryan Braun, this team is actually getting worse

Johnny Estrada can't throw anyone out

Johnny Estrada can't beat anything out

Johnny Estrada can't draw walks

Kevin Mench has no speed, power, batting average, arm, or ability to draw walks

Ben Sheets is hurt again

Chris Capuano has had 15 consecutive losing start

Claudio Vargas can only go five innings

Jeff Suppan can only go five innings and makes 42 million dollars

Carlos Villanueva and Matt Wise have completely lost it

We play in the most awful division in baseball and still we can't pull away.

It's been 25 years and still no playoffs

 

 

I am getting a headache.

Wow Ajay, you really summed up every single thing wrong with the team. Hit the nail on the head with every single point. At what point does Doug Melvin start to assess the shortcomings of the team and actually pull away with a plan for 2008? It is true the whole rotation can't last more than 5 innings to save their lives, further tiring out the bullpen.

I think the whole pitching staff is the result of a total chain reaction. The starters couldn't last anymore than 6+ innings earlier in the season, causing Turnbow and Cordero to get a lot more appearances than usual.

Turnbow has 58 appearances this season, just 11 shy of his career high total and we have more than a month left of baseball to play. In addition, he has already surpassed 53 total innings of work and is 12.3 innings away from matching his career high. Both stats were set in 2005.

Cordero doesn't seem nearly as fatigued because he has been a workhorse for most of his career.

I also examined Carlos Villanueva's IP and pitching appearances and he has already eclipsed 50 appearances, five times as much as 2006, and also his IP has been eclipsed as a career high as well.

The problem here is, the bullpen is obviously overworked because the starting pitching can't complete a ballgame.

I also would like to see the amount of quality starts compiled by our rotation and compare it with the rest of the NL.

In addition, because of our pitching rotation doing so poorly in completing games, we have had to stretch out our two best young arms in Yo Gallardo and Manny Parra. Gallardo's innings pitched has got to be getting to the point where our scouts are starting to cringe and wonder if we will eventually ruin him one way or the other. Same with Parra.

We are so limited as to what we can do with these two arms that we further add to the stress of the bullpen. It is a vicious circle that will not change unless our starters can actually give them a break.

Are these pitching crises Yost's fault?

Shouldn't our starters be held accountable for the mess they have created? They allowed the Rox to explode a week or two ago, they allowed the Cardinals to explode tonight. They allowed every team to blow us out recently and Yost can only do so much with our given bullpen. He can't rely on Wise anymore, as stated above, he can't rely on Villy as much anymore. So where do you turn to?

The hitting is another story, when will our hitters finally get off their collective butts and do something about their struggling ways? The offensive situation essentially makes me speechless because there just seems to be no rhyme or reason why they are struggling right now, no excuses.
