Every time my hope for this team starts to come back, they come out with a game like this. While the road play is unexplainable, it is what will keep us from the division if we lose it. I figure we need to go 6-6 at worst the rest of the year on the road to win the division.

Honest question: Was Dave Bush's arm hurting tonight? By the end of the 1st, it looked like he couldn't get his fastball much above 80mph. I am seriously concerned about this. I know he got rocked, but the highest velocity I saw him hit tonight was 88, and that was to the first batter of the game. Anyone else notice anything in this vein?

I don't know if I've seen much worse work behind the plate than Mike Winters's "strike zone" tonight. By the time the game was nearing its end, it looked like both sides' players weren't even bothering to get upset anymore. His calls were all over the place, and I loved to see Ned get out there, even though arguing balls & strikes is an automatic heave-ho. Well done, Ned. Wish it would've made a difference, but nice effort.

I remember being really upset with another ump's work earlier in the year - oh yeah! Doug Eddings....can't remember the game, just that pretty much everyone agreed he had been absolute crap behind the dish. Ah well, guess I'll just have to look forward to Bruce Froemming's quality work tonight! I love his consistency & strike zone.

I don't know invader, I think you're onto something there. I've felt this way too, and trust me - it's not just in Brewers games. I feel like there are a lot of younger umps working, and I think we've seen a lot of bad officiating in 2007. I'm pretty sure this will get uber-magnified in the post-season, I just hope it doesn't happen to us.

How about the umps missing the fact that Gross CAUGHT that "homer" by Griffey?

clancy, not sure what you mean -- the ball he caught wasn't anywhere near a HR, and the batter-runner stopped at 2B. Not sure who hit it, either...

But, yea, that missed call was absolute crap. It hurt Gabe that he didn't realize he caught it, but still a totally unacceptable missed call from the crew - most notably the 2B umpire. Plus, that JJ flip to Weeks at 2B was close... but I'm willing to concede that they probably got that one right. The quality of umpiring this year has been noticeably down, imho, and yesterday's game was filled with more exhibits of that decline.

EDIT: Or are you referring to the last series we played against Cincy?

Whoa this thread was ignored tonight? How come? sigh.

Pittsburgh Pirates don't fail to rise to the occasion when the Brewers are playing meaningful games. Tonight's game was just plain embarrassing. :-( 9-0, an official baseball skunking. grrrr......

I love the Pirates. (sarcasm)

I hate the fact that Ned Yost insists on Turnbow being his 8th inning guy. Why? Linebrink was pretty effective in that role in San Diego. Why every game?

Why does Ned wait until the floodgates open for Turnbow before he makes a move. Two walks would have been too late in my opinion, especially in September in a close game.
